We were in Edinburgh visiting our son who is a student. We had left it late to book dinner on Saturday night and Olive Branch had a table for 3. We booked with an hour to spare before our 9pm table. On arriving in the characterful Broughton neighbourhood of Newtown, we realized the table was indeed for 3 constrained from 4 due to the layout and a random pillar position. Otherwise the restaurant was full. We felt lucky. The menu was an eclectic mix of standards, such as burgers, but with lots of fish and some veggie options that you could add meat to. so very flexible for vegetarians. The Haggis Bonbons with peppercorn sauce were quite unlike anything we ever had before and were truly fantastic as starters. As was the crispy Monkfish tail. Two of us had the seam bream fillet with thai curry, chickpea rosti and samphire and we added hand cut chips (with more peppercorn sauce, another standout) while our son had the generously portioned chicken burger. The staff were attentive and prompt and the wine list was varied and decently priced. It is not a particularly cheap option but neither is it expensive and after an eye watering visit to Sushi Samba the evening before we truly appreciated that you more than get what you paid for with food and service at The Olive Branch. 3 enthusiastic thumbs up.

A lovely little restaurant which we booked after seeing the Drifter girls at playhouse. Definitely recommend booking as it is small and popular. We ordered bread and oil/vinegar dip. Bread was delicious and tasted healthy. Very generous serving for the three of us. I ordered tagliatelle with chicken. It was excellent. Unfortunately I had filled up by eating so much of the delicious bread I took half home with me. It was even better the next day. My friend had the home made burger and said it was one of nicest she had tasted. My other friend had the fish and chips. The food, Along with a very nice bottle of pino grigio, was very enjoyable. We had a young man from Ukraine serving us. He was very professional and efficient. There is some seating outside for those hardy folk used to Scottish weather! Would certainly come back and recommend.

So good we went twice! Warm, helpful & friendly service and a casual atmosphere made this a comfy, cozy experience. The only reason the food doesn’t rate a 5 is that a vegetarian curry was more sauce than veg - but tasty nonetheless. If, like me, you need to be gluten free, there are a few options- including dessert. Enjoy!

The staff were so pleasant, friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was clean and tidy, the menu choices were ideal and the food was exceptional. I would highly recommend a visit and I will certainly be back.

food was lovely and the service was of high quality. every server that interacted with us were so lovely and considerate. There was a lady who served us with an Irish (?) accent, a nose ring, and brunette hair and she was lovely! chatty and attentive which my boyfriend and I appreciated :)

Not eaten here since before Covid and it was as good as I remember. Busy Saturday night but service was swift and food delicious, everyone in my party enjoyed it, will definitely be back.

It was our first time visiting and will definitely be back. We were met with a warm welcome even being slightly early for our booking. Service was met with a smile which continued throughout, nothing was too much trouble. Food was amazing couldn’t fault it. It is a little gem in Edinburgh. Very good value for money.

The Olive Branch is a small restaurant half way down Broughton Street, so not far from the new St James Quarter and the Playhouse. The staff are friendly and attentive. The food was of a good enough standard, however, we were expecting the full menu as opposed to the brunch menu which is served between 12-2 (our booking was for 2pm) so the choice was a bit limited. What we did have though (burgers) were tasty and the wine was lovely and it was all reasonably priced. I would go again, but would perhaps check first to see which menu would be on offer.
