The award-winning New London restaurant has been on Chelmsford’s dining and social scene since October 2013 and it still is a relaxed yet sophisticated dining venue. The venue is full of elegance and glamour – now more than ever after an incredible redesign in March 2018.

We have a reputation for seasonally inspired menus with a unique approach to homemade food which makes the New London restaurant a special place to visit.

We pride ourselves on our excellent service with a personal touch. All our staff are proud of, and knowledgeable about, our dishes, wines and cocktails.

We offer only the best locally sourced and seasonal British produce including fresh seafood, locally sourced ingredients and foraged herbs. All our dishes are served in the inimitable style that has helped it garner so many compliments and awards since opening.

Fantastic visit yesterday. It was my dads 70th, he didn't want a fuss but the waitress arranged for some bubbles to be delivered to the table on arrival and helped accommodate us as we were running late. The food was excellent, especially the kedgeree arancini and mille fuile. Just a shame we aren't local or we would be back fairly regularly I'm sure. Visited on a quiet Thursday night so difficult to judge ambience.

Lovely food , nice atmosphere and great service - had the Sunday roast, duck starter was delicious, lovely roast potatoes with the main and great desert. Good value and would highly recommend

The food is absolutely top quality and beautifully presented . I had the crab risotto and the hake . My husband had the marmite onion and the lamb. Wine choices also excellent

We have been in New London before and had nice food and good experience. This time is like they couldn't wait for us to go (we were amongst the last sittings). But also the food wasn't up to the standard of that restaurant. I ordered some tenderstem broccoli for side, what came looked like old one that at home I would normally throw away, and it was very chewy. No apologies from the staff when I mentioned it. We paid for something that shouldn't have been served. Deserts, they had put the wrong ice creams and they never really apologised when we pointed it out or even reflect it in the price. Really not very happy. We were there to have a special meal but didn't leave with a special feeling. Won't be rushing back.

Sadly our visit to The New London did not meet our expectations (we had been recommended to the restaurant). The service was slow despite the restaurant not being overly busy and the presentation of 3x Sunday roasts was 'Toby Carvery' at best. Based on this visit I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Meal out for our Anniversary, TNLR has been on our list to do for a while now and we weren't disappointed. Great cocktails and a perfectly cooked Chateaubriand to share. Lively Friday night atmosphere. Looking forward to returning soon.

By their usual high standards last nights main course was disappointing. The chicken & ginger broth was bland with not a hint of ginger. The broth was oily too. The potatoes were uninteresting and tasteless. The braised spring onions added nothing and were too difficult to cut to eat. Fortunately the fish was beautifully cooked & the tempura mussels were nice but more were needed. The dish was crying out for a vegetable & flavour. Overall the dish was small. The scallop starter was lovely but again a small portion.

I have been fortunate to have eaten at The New London three times now; the quality on each visit has been 5 star. The menu is always interesting and diverse, and I have not known anyone to be other entirely complimentary about their meal (starter main or dessert!). This is not only the best restaurant in Chelmsford, but the best foodies restaurant also. Wine prices are fantastically reasonable and the mid-week deal is good value for money. Perfect sized portions also. The restaurant is not too loud, with soft furnishings throughoht, and has well looked after facilities.

Superpb. The food is imaginatively presented. The menu is novel, and changes. We go knowing it will superb, and has never failed. The service is subtle, there when needed, not intrusive. The cost is high on face value, but a whole evening including quality drinks, 3 fantastic courses…isn’t. We could cut costs by skimping, but why???

Went there on Sunday and was extremely disappointed! The starters were not of the same standard and look to what they usually are, the main roast pork was like shoe leather the roast potatoes were black and squashy the veg Luke warm, we had 2 apple crumbles both in ice cold bowls one of us sent it back as was once again luke warm, then it returned a soggy mess as had obviously been over zapped in the microwave as bowl was the to jot to touch Did tell the woman in charge that dinner was terrible but she didn’t really care ! So for £245 for 4 of us and not Even offered a good will drink … think they have lost customers…..

Fantastic food and an excellent evening had by all. This is our favourite restaurant in Chelmsford. Not cheap but always a culinary delight.

There isn’t really a more upscale restaurant in Chelmsford than this one. And if you have a special occasion it’s worth a visit for sure. I went as a group of 6 for dinner and I like the semi dark ambiance, the staff are knowledgeable, the food is fantastic. Well worth it. Also, love the fact that you can hear each other talk! No loud music which has become so popular in restaurants nowadays. The menu changes every 8 weeks to keep it interesting. It’s my second visit and I’ll definitely be back.

Lovely food and attentive service - we were the only diners which accounts for the lack of buzz and v quiet noise levels! But this suited us for a business lunch.

We have been to The New London many times but this was the first time we’d had Sunday lunch with friends. 2 of us don’t eat meat but we had extra veg, which was delicious! A nut roast option would be very welcome!

Enjoyed our Sunday Lunch here yesterday. Food exceptional, everything so tasty and looks wonderful. Lovely to receive extra gravy if needed without asking. The roast beef was just delicious, and the cauliflower cheese amazing. Will definitely return. Very, very tiny niggle we had the 3 courses and 1 of us chose the cheese and biscuits. Would have been nice to see a few grapes or small pieces of fruit to accompany it.

Efficient but discreet service despite being fairly busy. A slightly unadventurous Sunday menu based around roasts. Parsnip soup was good, Eton mess was a little disappointing - tangy berries but no cream.

Very welcoming, the restaurant isn’t huge , so it has quite an intimate atmosphere. The food is delicious, and the set lunch menu is excellent value.
