This is one of the best Indian restaurants in the surrounding area, and we have tried MANY. One of the things that puts it among the top of my list is that it is great both as a dine in experience and as takeout / order in. The dining room is spacious and tidy. It doesn't feel at all hole-in-the-wall, so I find it a nice spot to take guests or have a meet up. The food comes in large portions relative to other Indian restaurants, especially the biryanis. Also, I always find it notable that the dishes are NOT GREASY. There is no pool of orange oil at the edges of the dish. Fyi, you have a choice of five levels of spice when dining in. We chose level 2, mild, and for me, it had no hint of spiciness whatsoever. The only criticism I have at the moment is that the chicken breast in the Chicken Tikka Masala was on the dry side. However, the sauce is so tasty that I was happy to cut up and smash the chicken into the sauce for a delicious mouthful.

My son and I had a delightful dinner and experience. The staff was attentive, efficient, and friendly. I had requested a table along the perimeter of the room and got a perfect one overlooking the park outside. I would definitely eat here again!

We reserved 3 days ahead of the date and requested for a Window table for my Overseas guests but ended up with a Table by the Restroom door. We Asians are known for such commitment issues. Beside this embarrassment, Food & Service was really great.

Great food and service! Even though the restaurant was very busy, we were served quickly and never felt rushed. We had a Saturday night reservation and were seated immediately at a lovely table next to the window. Even though every table was filled - people of all ages, casually dressed - there was no noise issue (we could talk easily). Highly recommend!

Food & serve we’re top notch. We reserved a table for 2. When we arrived we were given a table overlooking construction & adjacent to the welcome table / food pickup. We asked to move to an open table & were told it was reserved. Huh? We reserved a table as well. We could hardly hear each other over the manager calling out orders & the ringing main phone. Disappointing.

The food was excellent. We had several new dishes, each flavorful I its own way. One disappointment was the lack of non-alcoholic beer. Overall the service was good, but after our table was cleared, our waiter disappeared. I had to go ask for the check.

Food and service were excellent. Friend had chicken dish and samosa. I had mutter with tofu. All were very good. Willing to substitute tofu for paneer on request- vegan .

Loved our dinner at The Maharaja. The view over JFK/Winthrop St was lovely. The staff was exceptionally welcoming and accommodating. The food was delicious. The room felt cozy and the noise level was great. What more could you ask for.

What an amazing experience! The food was simply delicious. I am a Latin guy and the flavors I just tasted were out of this world. The garlic naan bread and chicken tikka masala, and butter chicken were so flavorful I am still salivating as I reminisce about the experience. Highly recommend and hope to visit the next time I’m in Cambridge.

We were waitlisted at this restaurant and made our way to it just to check if we were going to make it. When we reached the restaurant was almost empty and we immediately got seated and could order. While the food was okay and the server we had really made up for our experience, was really disappointed to see that they could not confirm our waitlisted status; also why was it not allowing any reservations when it was practically more than half empty?

Nestled on the second floor overlooking Harvard Square is the oasis known as The Maharaja. The ambiance transports you to a different place and time and the Indian cuisine is nothing short of superb. Add to all that the service is consistently excellent, and you'll understand why it is a favorite place for my wife and I. I could not recommend it more highly!

Very good place to eat Indian food. The food is cooked very well, the service is friendly and attentive, and the location overlooking a nice park in Harvard Square is great. One of the best places to eat Indian food in Cambridge.
