Great food, service and ambience. Large parties can make the room a bit loud, but it is a great place to dine or try a craft cocktail.

The food was very good and the young woman who seated us was friendly and polite. The waiter was terrible. He rushed our order, seemed annoyed when we asked for descriptions of dishes, kept interrupting our conversations, and continually tried to upswell us. He also requested to clear the table before everyone was finished their meal. When he came to take our dessert and further drink order, we expressed a desire to wait ( we just wanted to sit and talk). He was back 5 minutes later! This was on a Thursday night, not a busy Saturday night, where you may be looking to turn over tables. At a restaurant of this caliber, I would expect a waiter to be better trained.

We attended a special event dedicated to the chef’s cultural roots. The quality of the ingredients & service was impeccable. There were a few mis-steps probably due to it being a well-attended event & the challenge of serving a large group at the same time (no silverware on the table, many guests contended with table legs, the main course being a little undercooked). It also would have been nice if a suggested wine pairing would have been offered. Having said that, the staff was well skilled in suggesting appropriate glasses of wine with each course. We will definitely dine at the Lively again.

This has always been one of our go to restaurants however our last experience was sub par. The service was incredibly slow and my wife’s pasta entree size was a joke; definitely not worth the cost. They used to do a birthday surprise experience if you put it in the reservation notes and only after awkwardly asking if they still did it, were we offered some dessert but it was hard to tell if it was based on the slow service and small portion size or if I reminded them. It’s always nice if they see the reservation notes and make it a surprise so a little disappointing this go around.

Really tasty food but very expensive and not a lot of food small plates but every bite is special. Good drinks and excellent staff, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Overall a great meal just expect to pay a lot.

The food and ambience were wonderful. However, our server went awol several times and did not remember when certain guests ordered refills on drinks etc. He started out fine but as the evening proceeded his service fell off precipitously. Made a wonderful night with clients somewhat disappointing. Would have expected better given the restaurant’s other ratings. Just goes to show bad service can ruin a good meal.

This place is nothing short of magical. Every time, every meal we eat here is perfect and we look forward to it as a special treat. The really big positive stuff - the wait staff is amazing. Knowledgable, friendly, and very patient. The menu is short, but every item on it is just amazing. Cocktails were perfect, and wine recommendations were right on the money. Speaking of money - I expected to pay approximately 30% more than we ended up paying for our meal, and I almost felt as if I was robbing the place. The Lively is in a two-way tie for my favorite restaurant in Boise, and it's a well-deserved honor.

I brought my mom here for her 64th birthday. She lives in Portland her standards of food, creativity and presentation are pretty high. my confidence in our Boise cuisine scene was not mistaken. She loved it! During TreeFort week, I expected this place to be impossible to get into. Luckily we got in and it was outstanding! The meal was served with perfect timing, everything spaced well but not too far apart the food hot and perfect plated beautifully. The whole experience was lovely. I have to say the service here is amazing ! Our server, and all the staff that attended to us, were kind and relaxed and generous with their attention. We were very impressed. Thank you so much for making this dinner for my mom such a treat.

Our first time to dine at The Lively. My son, who gave us the gift certificate, told us ahead of time that a good friend of his mentioned the food is salty so make sure we ask for ‘light salt’. Needless to say, we forgot. We ordered the grilled octopus for our appetizer which was very tasty. For our main course we both ordered the wagyu culotte with a side of pommes puree and arugula salad. Both sides were good but the wagyu was very salty. I kept drinking water after every bite just to get through the meal. For dessert we went for the crème brûlée and thought it was very good. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and would go back, but have to remember to ask for ‘light salt’.

In a word, underwhelmed. After reading many reviews about dishes being too salty, I would have expected a lighter hand on the salt. But both dishes we ate were much too salty to enjoy (pan roasted sea bass and wagyu culotte). The waiter was efficient but never smiled - maybe he had something going on - and he didn’t seem like he really wanted to be there. Decor and atmosphere were nice. Music was at just the right volute for conversation which we appreciated. Probably won’t return.

I recently had a delightful meal at The Lively. The food was absolutely fantastic! The dishes were beautifully prepared, and the flavors were outstanding. I particularly enjoyed the Swardfish, which was rich in flavor and balanced. However, I do have a small piece of feedback regarding the service. While the staff were friendly and attentive, they seemed a little over-eager at times. Plates were cleared quite quickly, even when one guest was still eating. Additionally, we were frequently asked if everything was alright, which felt slightly disruptive to the conversation. It would be fantastic if the service could strike a balance between attentive and allowing guests to enjoy their meal at their own pace. Overall, I had a very positive experience at The Lively and would definitely recommend it for the amazing food. With a slight adjustment to the service style, I believe it could be an even more enjoyable experience for everyone.

My Wagyu steak was ordered medium rare but came singed. Burnt on the outside. Root vegetables should be more than a little carrot. Good service and greeters.

Overall - fantastic. The service was top notch with an incredibly informative and kind waiter, the ambiance was wonderful and it felt both intimate but not isolated, and the food was excellent. I had a Snake River Farms culotte that was perfectly cooked while my date had a trout bucatini that she loved. I also ordered a cocktail that is honestly one of the best whiskey based cocktails I've ever had in Boise or elsewhere. The only two negatives that I would highlight would be that I had anticipated the root vegetable side that came with the culotte to be a bit more substantive - not much, just a tiny bit more. And my date had hoped that her bucatini would have had a bit more trout with it. Otherwise the portions were near perfect and the kitchen did an extremely good job and providing a wonderful meal. My date also ordered a slice of basque cheesecake and it was everything you'd hope for with a basque cheesecake. So far, The Lively is our new favorite place to spend a date night and we look forward to returning.

An excellent celebratory dinner for 2. We tried the octopus, shared salad, agnolotti, wagyu, 2 cocktails, and basque cheesecake. Everything was yummy and had great service that made me feel special.

And I’m talking by a mile, the best food experience we’ve had in Boise. And honestly one of the best meals out I’ve had in three years. Perfect execution of food, plating, and design, all flawless. And the service was outstanding (Thanks Tim). Sommelier was excellent with a wonderful wine list of eclectic selections. Ambience was very well done. I really don’t understand how every review, magazine, and website is not raving and talking about this restaurant. They are simply on another tier of anything being done in this city, of the likes of San Francisco, New York, or LA.

Me and my partner dont go out much so Valentines day was supposed to be that classic fancy dinner date; the Lively provided just that and more with outstanding and dependable service, hot, fresh and impeccably prepared food (I had the swordfish) and the cocktails were delicious. The atmosphere had a low light and quiet, living room feel. It reminded me of being at my home but with a luxurious note. I'll definitely be attending again.

We had a wonderful time at The Lively for our Valentine's Day Celebration. We usually forget about Valentine's but managed to snag a reservation for The Lively and it did not disappoint. It really is one of our most favorite places to celebrate with dinner or have a cocktail after work or meet friends for dessert.

This was my wife’s and my second time at The Lively and it was fantastic. The food is incredible. Lots of flavors that I’ve never tried together before however, that’s not saying much since I am born and raised here in Boise.
