The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

We’ve dined at the Lex many times as we live in the area and always enjoy it (indoors or patio). We made an impromptu reservation for a gloomy evening - so sick of the rain. We ended up in a cozy both in a corner. Our server Matt was amazing! He made a great suggestion on the Meatloaf Wellington and the Vieux Carre. Both of which we tried and were delicious. We mentioned it was also our anniversary weekend (Sunday #34), so he surprised us with a delightful ice cream sundae and the hostess took a photo which was mounted in a card. They all really made a gloomy evening turn into a wonderful time!!!

The service was impeccable. Love that there is still good service out there. Ladies order first. Ladies served first. Remove plates from left, lower them from the right. Only thing is shouldn’t ask to remove a plate until everyone is finished with their meal. Food was pretty good. Best part is ambience and service. Please keep it classic and attentive.

Restaurant came highly recommended…. Our group of 4 left disappointed. Our server was nice but not not attentive. The food was blah especially for the prices. The oysters were fresh and tasty. My salmon burger was cold and the taste was over powered by some strong spice. The pork chop was good. The spaghetti with steak was ok. The even the chocolate cake with Carmel was not better than cub cake..

Came here for a birthday party. It had been awhile since we had last been here and we were happy to see that not much had changed. The service was great (Shawn was our host) and offered great recommendations for food options. The birthday ice cream was a nice tough and we would definitely come back again.

The Lexington does not disappoint. The service is top notch, food is very good making for a good time for all. Our guests were from out of town and loved the ambiance and history of the restaurant!
