The Lakefront Restaurant is an upscale tavern located on the shores of Lake Michigan in the historic Theater on the Lake building. We offer seasonal Midwestern fare featuring the freshest choice ingredients and a beverage program highlighting craft beers, spirits, and a diverse wine list.

We are open year-round, and invite you to enjoy the casual elegance of our intimate tables, communal seating, lounge area, and our warm-weather Skyline Patio -- all while taking in the stunning views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. We had a wonderful Mother’s Day brunch! Every person I was with loved their dish and the overall experience!! My 98 year old grandma cannot stop raving about the ambiance, the food and how wonderful of a restaurant it was, which is such a win in my book!

I had lunch with a friend at The Lakefront Restaurant. The setting is lovely with a beautiful view of the lake. I love the atmosphere with it quiet enough to hold a conversation without having to shout. I had the Beef Stew which was absolutely delicious and filled with tender beef and tasty vegetables. I will definitely be back.

Unfortunately, a very disappointing experience from the moment we walked in. The hostess ignored us for a few minutes and then didn’t look at us when talking to us. Zero personality. The waitress also barely looked at us, leaned against the wall to take our order and looked like she needed a nap. Our food came out at different times so some was cold by the time the other person got their main meal. The manager had no energy either when he came to apologize. While we appreciated the acknowledgement, the overall experience was buzz kill. The view is amazing so I might go back for a coffee or drink sometime, but I would not recommend the restaurant experience.

We had a wonderful time. Greater at the door and promptly seated. Our server was perfect. Friendly and knowledgeable. Wonderful wine service and a perfect view of the lakefront. I had Dental work done about an hour before we sat and the Poblano Stew melted in my mouth- perfectly tender as if the Chef knew I was still quite numb. We all had a great time and our server made sure we had plenty of time to take our to-go cocktails to the show down the hall. Easy, affordable valet service - cheaper than street parking - with door to door service.

Food was delicious. Server was great. It wasn’t crowded or too loud. Kids loved the view of the lake. Valet parking was $15. Spent 20mins walking around the lake after dinner. I would go back!

Our server was so kind and friendly. However the rest of the staff was pretty useless and one of the bartenders was very rude. Many employees standing around not doing anything while we waited far too long for our drinks, despite there not being that many other guests.

Our waiter, Tim was very nice and thoughtful. He answered menu questions, leveled the wobbly table that we had not yet noticed wobbling. He was very sweet and professional. The food is so delicious. I had the PestoChicken Sandwich. It was juicy and yummy. A very uniquely delicious sandwich. My friend had Deviled eggs and Cauliflower tacos. All so delicious. The eggs have a little spice to provide some tang. I’ve come many times and always had great food.

Frannie was our server and was fabulous! Sammy , another server remembered us from the last time we were there and made a point o come over and say Hi. The service is outstanding. Fabulous place. A must go to place for brunch, & dinner.

Lovely restaurant on lakefront with fabulous views. Waiting staff were so attentive and food, fish and chips, and cauliflower tacos which was questionable for me, turned out to be delicious.

Excellent brunch! Not the usual bacon and egg breakfast menu, so it was great! Beautiful view (We had an unusual beautiful February day) and wonderful service. Try the Donut Hole appetizer...good for sharing but I could have eaten the whole thing as they were yummy! Servings were large! A couple of us had the omelets, which were great and a couple had Brisket Hash....delish!

Great food and venue. However lunch on Sunday does not start at 3:00 as indicated on website. We were told kitchen would start lunch at 3:30.

What a gorgeous view of the lake and the skyline! Great service and decent food. We found the music to be distracting, however. What seemed to be 80’s rock with some 50’s oldies thrown in did not fit the visual aesthetic and it detracted from the overall experience. I’m not sure who they are catering to, but it seemed rather odd.

The Lakefront is a very fun place to go. It’s great being so close to the Lake and the valet parking was affordable and made parking easy. The chef designed plates with complex and enjoyable flavors.

This was my first time in Chicago, and this restaurant was beautiful! Great ambiance, our server was very attentive, and the food was great! Not to mention to amazing view of Lake Michigan, I will be returning on my next trip!

Love the vibes. But my steak came out cold, the sauce on it tasted really off and did not pair well, vegetables were very good. Was given the wrong side and it was fixed but it took a bit. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all so I was kind of confused how that happened but 🤷🏽‍♀️ Just ok.

The cocktails are different, but delicious! We went there for happy hour. We had a few appetizers and soups. Quite yummy!

This was our second visit, having dinner before a show at the theater. Our server was friendly, attentive and made several good suggestions on the menu. Food was quite good, but their side of seasonable veggies was notable - there were at least 7-8 types of veggies in there and they were delicious! Will definitely be back.

Would absolutely recommend! The view, the ambiance, the food, the service - EVERYTHING WAS FENOMENAL! That bread platter was so delicious! So much so that I'm excited to talk about bread! Even the music felt like a cool soundtrack.
