This pub claims it has "gastro pub quality food", but in reality it is rather ordinary and disappointing. We had a very nice shared humus and pita bread starter, but it took 45 minutes to arrive. This was followed by a poorly cooked rib eye steak (well cooked on the outside and otherwise raw) which although tasty was very chewy. the real disaster was the (again chewy) pasta dish topped with crispy (burnt) kale and wholly without flavour. The pub is in a good location and quite attractive, but it needs a qualified chef.

Beautiful place. Attentive staff. More salad needed on mains and lots more custard needed on crumble. Food took a long while to come.

We were tempted here for Sunday dinner by excellent reviews so were disappointed when it failed to live up to expectations. I had pork and my sister had turkey. Both claimed to come with cauliflower cheese… one floret with a dribble of cheese. All the other veg were harder than el dente except two floppy parsnips! The potatoes were nice. It was average at best and cost over £60.

It was a Sunday lunch time on a beautiful day, and we chose to sit outside. The staff were very accommodating and fitted in with our party. Even though we were not in the main dining area the staff remained attentive (although not excessively. Choices were very good and excellently cooked. Drinks were available including low/no alcohol for us drivers. A delightful find!

The quality of the food was excellent, service was slow but the staff were friendly and did their best, I think they are suffering from staff shortages

Food was generally good but service didn’t seem to know about basic bread and butter at the table and just looked perplexed when we asked for some. Young waitress had had very little training of how to understand client needs and how to respond to requests.

What a gem! Two superb lunches in this out of the way pub. The very friendly staff gave us a warm welcome, the menu had a most interesting selection and the food, starters, mains and desserts were innovative, generous and wonderfully cooked. A true credit to the chef and his team.

I chose The Hole in the Wall to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday (who lives in Great Shelford) with a family lunch for six on 26th April. I had read the plethora of positive reviews, and as one of the party has Parkinson’s, accessible parking was a priority. I messaged the restaurant to check (before I booked) and Sid (Sidharth Getty) replied quickly and said it would not be a problem, so I booked. I then emailed Sid a few times about various other things, and honestly, he is the kindest and most courteous, helpful guy ever! On arrival at the restaurant, Sid greeted us and showed us to our table, and for the next couple of hours, we had the most delicious food, and the best service! It’s a very intimate dining space and we were lucky that 20 mins after our arrival, the other diners left, and so we had the dining room to ourselves which was great! The food all came out at the same time (a rarity) and was perfectly cooked and presented, and we all agreed, absolutely delicious! Once we had declined desert due to being nicely full, the front of house team, plus the chef, came out with an Eton mess type desert cake with a candle in it, to present to my mum, with Happy Birthday playing on a sound system - my mum was delighted and ate the lot, despite being full and not a desert person! The perfect end to the perfect meal. I would not hesitate to recommend this place, and I thank Sidharth once again for his impeccable service. We will return!

The food was fantastic, probably the best fish & chips I've ever had! The prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food.
