The Grounds of the City, the second outpost from the team behind The Grounds of Alexandria, is bringing soul back to the CBD with old-school service and charm. Located in the heart of the CBD and bustling with activity, The Grounds of the City is tailor-made for a marvellous time; no matter the occasion. Start your day right as our baristas expertly serve up The Grounds house-roasted espresso and filter coffees, or end it in the best possible way and cosy in with our selection of cocktails and a dinner menu that features something for everyone. You’ll find our coffee sommelier at The Barista’s Bar ready to take you through a tailored coffee experience, and our tea lady roaming the room with a trolley adorned with fresh coffee, our selection of ethically sourced teas and cakes.

    We visited the grounds of the city today for the first time. We have been to Alexandria more than 6 times within 3 years. Usually everything all good. Everything at the city location was rushed. Rushed into ordering drinks, rushed isn’t ordering food, rushed into getting water, which turns out due to rush and feeling rushed we were served a $12 bottle of water. I enquired with the waiter about the $12 water, when it was time to pay and we were none the wiser of the water we had been served. Tap does us just fine. The waiter replied rudely and abruptly. We paid and left. Poor form. No empathy at all. I really did not enjoy our experience today in the city cafe, we left pretty quickly disheartened with a different view on the grounds. Will think about returning to either location in future. 😓

    I don’t understand when you make a reservation that you still need to que outside to get taken to your table not a good start …then we place our orders and told we will need your table back in an hour what the hell food was good as was the service but do not like being so rushed when catching up with friends ordered coffee was told you can have coffee but in a takeaway cup where there all of 90 minutes won’t be rushing back not relaxing !

    Always love The Grounds in the city. Easy to book, easy to get to (next to Town Hall station), beautiful cafe and competent staff. Food is always high quality and didn’t wait long for the coffee or food.

    Great food as always and nice environment. Service was pretty good but it would be good to have water on the table or brought over pretty soon after sitting. Took about 20mins.

    Atmosphere is great, loud and buzzy and staff are very friendly and helpful. Drinks excellent. Food not what it used to be - sour dough not crisply toasted, overall not top rate as it has been previously. Knives blunt - common issue sadly.

    The vibe is fantastic. It felt like we were transported to another place, and it was a shock coming back out onto the street after dining there. The food is good, but not great for the price. Still worth visiting for the unique atmosphere. Great service. Next time I go I would treat it as a bar, rather than a dining experience.

    Everyone has an off day and at 8.15 on Sunday the grounds was having an off day. Very noisy environment, we were squeezed into a table. The food was ok, but, was very expensive for what we had.
