The Federal is an exciting seafood and chophouse with scratch-made, chef driven modern Italian inspired food. The restaurant is upscale, affordable, comfortable, and relaxed.

Come and explore our wine list where new age and old world meet. Our wine list is curated by co-owner/managing partner David Alphonse and features wines from around the world with a focus on Italian and old world selections. We have a great selection of new world wines as well.

We feature two adjoining private dining rooms and a seasonal covered patio.

Located in Waltham, MA in the Market Basket Plaza, we look forward to serving you soon.

Could be one of the great steakhouse elite “chains”. Service was rushed and not very attentive. Had to ask for plates to be served with our appetizers, and then a pile was plopped onto the table instead of each plate being placed at everyone’s setting.

Great experience celebrating our daughter’s graduation. Everyone loved their food, it was all delicious! Best tuna I’ve had.

Unfortunately our server was the only part of our meal that would bring us back, she was very nice. The three pasta dishes came out cold and very salty. The steak dish and desserts were good. It’s too bad because I really wanted to try this place.

The Federal continues to amaze. Great food (escargot, clams cassino, tortellino, sirloin steak); bartenders attentive and efficient, desserts were wonderful. Just a great restaurant outside of Boston making getting to and from much easier. A true gem.

We had dinner at the bar. The atmosphere was spot on for a higher end establishment. Bartenders and wait staff were friendly and efficient. Drinks were great and the food was off the hook. I’d highly recommend The Federal for a date night destination. Not inexpensive but you get everything you pay for and more!

Completely overpriced, warm Manhattan, $58 steak was incredibly tough. Felt like I had to saw through it - I’ve had better quality of cuts at an Outback.

We had made the reservation for a Friday night - at 6:30pm - because the special of the day on Fridays is Beef Wellington - my son's favorite and the reason why we chose the restaurant - but they were sold out already when we ordered, which was very disappointing. The table was round with a curved seat that was comfortable, but the table was a bit of a tight squeeze (was just slightly too large) to get by to get into and out of the seat. The food was all very good. My son had the chowder, escargots, and shrimp cocktail - all of which he enjoyed...not his favorite ever but very good. We shared the Kurobata pork chop and the delmonico steak...the pork chop was good - perfectly cooked - but the delmonico steak was better (I liked the seasoning on the steak). For dessert we had the tiramisu, the affogato, and they brought out 2 mini cannolis to celebrate my son's birthday. The tiramisu was good but I have had better, my son did not like the coffee ice cream in the affogato...just the vanilla...but I liked the coffee. My father ate the cannolis when we got home and said they were excellent.

All around great experience. The bartenders are very helpful at recommending interesting drink options. The food was great! Steaks are Prime Cut, cooked perfectly and delicious. Two in our group got seafood and loved their dishes (halibut and haddock). Appetizers and dessert both excellent as well.

Have eaten here quite a few times and never fails to impress me! The new seasonal Rabbit entree was amazing, as was the Colorado Style Lamb Chops! Can’t go wrong with any of the appetizers, although the Shrimp Skewers and the Beef Carpaccio is outstanding… Wine selection is wide ranging and ample, if you don’t decide to try one of their craft cocktails, personally, I do both! Cookie butter Crème Brûlée is better than advertised, but I’m always a sucker for their Ricotta Cheesecake, which at moment is the Cinnamon Bun Cheesecake. All deserts are made in house and exceptional. Ambiance is great as is the service and staff… Highly recommended if you haven’t been before, it’s a classic throwback spot.

The Federal has a great menu with an array delicious entrees! We love the duck breast, swordfish and baked stuffed shrimp. The cocktails are excellent. What has made the meal a dining experience is our server, Dan. He's outstanding!

Service was excellent. Yummy cocktails. Appetizers were excellent and cooked perfectly, delicious flavors. Main courses were beautifully presented and cooked, but 3 of the 4 lacked flavor. They were flat, which was disappointing for the price.

My wife and I enjoyed a delicious meal at the Federal. The food was top notch and very well presented. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall, I can highly recommend.

First time at The Federal, it was a great experience. We shared the Charcuterie and the Pear&Burratta salad as an appetizer, both were delicious and enough for 2 people. The French Onion soup was delicious, one of the best around, smothered with cheese!

Excellent food, ambience, presentation, service, price value. I was disappointed and expecting the Bourbon Pecan Pie to be presented as a Slice of Warm Pecan pie with ice cream on top. It was not a Slice as the menu says, Instead it was a small Cold Tart. Not appealing nor in the traditional idea of Pecan Pie. Menu needs to reflect what you are getting.

Had a late reservation at The Federal. The staff could not have been more accommodating from start to finish, never felt rushed. Started with escargot and oysters rockefeller, outstanding classics. My date had the Tuna, I had the short ribs both incredible. LOVE this place.

Disappointed. Waitress was great. Had haddock (40.00) - overcooked. Two tough asparagus spears . The fingerling potatoes- seemed oily or soggy. Did not finish. My wife’s meal - she enjoyed. Salmon,FF and broccolini. Cinnamon cheese cake good. Would have been good - but my meal sucked!

Will our server was very nice and attentive. The appetizers and entrees came out rather quickly. The food was hot and very good, although 2 of the 3 filets were a little overcooked then ordered, but still very good. The tiramisu was delicious and a portion for 2 to share.
