The Dumb Post is conveniently situated between Calne and Chippenham, with beautiful views over the nearby Bowood estate. A traditional country gastropub in the heart of Wiltshire, offering quality cask ales and tasty home cooked food using locally sourced ingredients. Husband and wife team, both passionate in providing delicious homemade food, excellent quality ingredients and good value for money dishes. Friendly and efficient service, good food and overall enjoyable evening. They catered for a special request for a change to one of their dishes - resulting in a very happy diner. It was a Very busy venue on a lovely Friday evening but the service was still good. This was our first visit in a couple of years. It’s definitely improved and well worth a visit.

The service was awlful, had to ask every time we needed service. The food was over cooked, I could have bounced the roast potatoes, the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked and crisp.

Sunday lunch out to treat our daughter currently studying hard for GCSES - the roast sandwiches were top notch and beautiful gravy for dunking - the view as ever is priceless

Slightly slow service albeit a busy Sunday lunch. The main course was ok but nothing special and the seasonal vegetables never appeared. Dessert was really yummy. We enjoyed our visit overall.

Food at this pub is well worth it. Very tasty. Good value. Great choice. Sat outside in the sunshine. Beautiful location. Dogs welcome. Excellent service and with a smile. Very welcoming pub.

We had a really lovely meal. We didn’t have much time so couldn’t really enjoy everything as much as we would have wanted. Just means we will have to come back when we have more time! A good selection of dishes and liked you could have the light bites small or large. All our meals were thoroughly enjoyed.

Definitely not as good as previous visits. The beef was amazing. The lamb was an extremely small portion and the bowl of veg for three people was a very disappointing, two mini carrots each, one floret of broccoli each and as much red cabbage as you want! The staff were disinterested although probably because they were so busy. The table was still dirty from the previous sitting, very disappointing.

We had a lovely meal, food was great! Only niggle was the sauce in the burger was over powering and too much of it. Service was slow towards the end, we asked for the bill 3 times. In the end we went up to the bar to pay as we had to leave

Heavenly lunch out on the sun terrace. Views were stunning and food not compromised by us being in a rush. Will be back.

What a fantastic idea to do WARM roast sandwiches! Perfect pub with spectacular views! Good selection of ales and wines. Staff were all wonderful friendly and welcoming.

We were seated promptly at a very nice table for 2. Service was excellent. Roast dinners were divine, veg and meat cooked to perfection! The outside terrace is wonderful place to sit and enjoy the countryside views.

Excellent lunch time menu, a choice of 2 and 3 course meals. Top class presentation. All local produce Excellent location with views of the Ridgeway in the distance. Very good service.

Our first visit and the food didn't disappoint and mostly local sourced within a 15 mile radius. The Inn has lovely views. Lamb flatbread was superb and well presented. Service was welcoming and efficient. The lunch set menu was value for money. We would return.

The most delicious roast we’ve had for ages . The portions huge and satisfying. The only vey small detail ( just because we’re slightly obsessed with gravy !)is that we found it a little too sweet , but then again I imagine it would balance very well with the lamb. Will definitely return . Thank you

We both chose starter and main from the lunchtime set menu. The food was imaginative and delicious. Portion size was very good for us. Wine recommendation was spot on.

So happy to have stumbled over this complete gem of a pub. Atmosphere and service were excellent. My braised lamb starter was absolutely incredible - so tender and tasty. The Confit Biyaldi tasted lovely and was well constructed, but it could have done with a little more cooking so make it really melt in the mouth. The New Zealand Sauvignon was delicious. I thought the set menu was a little pricey at £27.95.

The setting is beautiful and we had a very nice table in a cosy room, that was bright and well decorated. There was a really good atmosphere in the restaurant. The service was pretty good although a little slow at times, but we appreciate they were very busy. It is a shame that some of the food was a mixed bag. Some dishes were absolutely delicious and some fell short. The lamb roast was exquisite with a good range of roasted vegetables and we had cauliflower cheese to compliment the meal. The chicken was also very good. Unfortunately my husband had the beef and was hardly able to eat it as it was overcooked, tough and stringy. The desserts were good except again the crumble fell short of expectations. It was totally dry add not very nice - I tried this myself and it was barely edible - it again was left. It is a shame to not have the consistency across all the dishes on this occasion and we left some what underwhelmed overall. It was a special occasion and you do not want to make a fuss or have the meal interrupted by complaining or having a change of food. My husband did mention this at the time of paying but it was completely dismissed. We did leave feedback the day after when our guest was not present. It was a bit of a shame as this was a special occasion for my Mum.
