After closing for 2 weeks for an interior refurb the pub now has a fresh and clean new look. The creation of a proper snug is part of the change and is available for private hire for small gatherings or family occasions. The rear barn has also undergone refurbishment and is now a wonderful room dating back to the 15th Century with oak beams and flagstone floor folding doors open out on to the rear courtyard and river Stour beyond. The barn forms part of the restaurant but can also be made available for small functions and parties of up to 20 - 25 people.

Having seen the TV program featuring the American and the Earl of Sandwich sandwich we decided to give the place a try. We were early and ushered into a darkish room, nobody else there and it was drafty. There was plenty of space in the bar area where the atmosphere appeared a little better and was certainly lighter. This was a hot sunny day but didn't feel like it where we were seated. The food was average at best and the "famous" sandwich had cold macaroni cheese. Not warm but cold. The other food choices didn't warrant a high mark either. Very disappointing. The only reason for not giving a lower rating is that the young lady serving us was very polite and friendly.

Haven't been for a while but wasn't disappointed. Food was fantastic, didn't have to wait long at all . Service was good.

Really excellent Sunday roasts for the family - Dan and his team are super friendly,attentive and very welcoming. Food,service,quality and value all really good. Thoroughly enjoyed The Crispin - Highly recommended.

Great atmosphere in the pub which dates back to the 15th century. Even at 6.30pm it was full of diners which is always a good indication that the food is good. Menu choice was good and portion sizes generous, great selection of drinks too. Real ale fans will appreciate that the cellar temperature is well controlled so beer quality is excellent. Will certainly visit again!

We went to Sandwich for a sandwich but the main course was very disappointing. Rest of the food was good.

The menu has something for everyone, although the sauce with my liver and bacon was slightly too peppery for me. That said all our meals were generous proportions, nicely cooked and well presented. The restaurant area is a good size but with slightly less ambience compared with the main bar area. Even so, this is a very friendly traditional pub with excellent bar staff, good drinks selection and a great place for families and couples to enjoy a welcome break while exploring the ancient village surroundings.
