A family fan restaurant for nearly 50 years, the Cavaliere is famous for our daily fish specials, home-made fresh pasta, our log-fired pizzas, with our tasty Italian style bread, you’ll be spoiled for choice.We have an extensive wine list all personally selected from the vineyards of Italy. We are a second generation family run business – with a strong ethos at heart, to provide excellent food and wines with service to match.

Cavalier, which is near our home, is one of our favorite restaurants for pizzas and pastas. Gianni's chilli-oil made from fresh chillies is outstanding :-)

Had a fantastic meal at cavalier. Food was amazing and worth the money. The place is beautiful. The only thing I didn't like was the servers standing watching whilst we ate. It was a bit off putting. Overall great service. Thank you. Will be back

Amazing decor had a seat opposite log burner which was fab. Loved the sound of rain on retractable roof. Wine was flavoursome and reasonably priced. Only wee moan was ice cream for 3 scoops was £7.50 but it was the tiniest scoop I have ever seen. Staff were friendly and very helpful.

Consistently excellent food, wine and service. The staff are attentive without being intrusive and are very helpful. It’s a pleasure to sit and dine in such lovely surroundings too.

We have been going to the Cavaliere for many years, it is our favourite Italian restaurant. The food is always amazing and the service outstandingly friendly. We have three children and the staff are always very kind and engaging in their interaction with them - it's a great place for families, the kids love the food and the familiar faces of the staff. The kids are always begging to go back to the Cavaliere soon - it's always such a special occasion for them - as it is for us. The kids' favourite dishes are the bolognese, or to share an adult sized lasagne or carbonara, followed by a desert of doughballs. I especially like their mussels and seafood specials and their excellent wine, my personal favourite being their Malvasia.

Fantastic food and service. Very accommodating of our 2 year old who isn’t keen on sitting still. Will definitely be back!

Our second visit to this restaurant and we love it. Great menu, great food. Staff are nice good kids menu, always big groups in for bday parties etc so obviously a well liked place!

Food here is very good, brilliant choices on the menu, would recommend highly. Only downside is the price of drinks, a tad on the high side!

Couldn't have been better. We've been going for years/decades and this was one of our best experiences. Congratulations on all of the interior upgrades altho' maybe not so sure about the tv!?

We were made very welcome and the staff were very polite. The quality of food was excellent as always. The only disappointment was that we had been waiting for someone to ask if we wanted desserts, however 30 minutes after our main course plates had been cleared, nobody approached us even although the restaurant was quiet. We then caught a waiter’s attention and paid our bill as we had to get home to attend to our dogs and couldn’t wait much longer

We had wonderful service throughout from being warmly welcomed to a friendly goodbye . The food was very tasty, with more than ample portions. Toilets were spotless We definitely recommend The Cavalier to everyone for a relaxing evening with good wholesome food and service.

Took 2 grandaughters for a meal out. We have dined here for over 30 years and have always enjoyed the food. Starters. Mains, desserts. All good.

First time back in Dalkeith premier restaurant for 6 years, WOW, they’ve totally taken it to the next level in decor, layout, service, from entering to being seated I was totally taken aback with the upgrade, tastefully and beautifully designed , obviously was there for the food and not one of the 6 of us had any grumble , the service was top notch and so was the food, I’ll definitely be back and it won’t be a 6 year wait, Congratulations to everyone at the Cavaliere, it was a fantastic experience

Service was great. Staff are friendly and polite. Food was amazing we are going back very soon. Couldn't fault it. Oh and i had the chianti red it was smooth. Very nice

This was our first time here and definitely won’t be the last! The restaurant was very nice and welcoming, the staff were lovely and the food was delicious. We had a lovely meal…..thank you.

Thought the portions were small and not that good. Only one person out of six thought their main course was really outstanding - spaghetti carbonara

First time The Cavalier hasn’t been great. Poor service from the start, nobody seemed to know what the other was doing. Chefs were having a barney with waiting staff, things weren’t right. Food was mediocre at best, presentation was appalling, wish I had taken a screenshot of my starter, looked like a school dinner. Prices have skyrocketed, not good value for money at all. Disappointed!

No complaints with the food served or the extremely polite staff. I think it was gemma who served us,absolute star. 4 out of 5 and would have been 5 out of 5 but for a couple of minor experiences. Chose the xmas menu on a friday lunchtime but no turkey was available ! Opted for the cheeses as a dessert, quantity and quality were great, probably best cheese dessert i've had, the negative ? It was described as cheeses with celery and grapes, no celery or grapes appeared, didnt detract from the fantastic cheeses, but correct the description on the menu. Definitely return and hope for a 5 out of 5 next time, so close.

There was no one else in the restaurant so we had excellent service and very good food.lovely staff.not really any ambeiance as restaurant not busy but we have been when full. Would definitely go back.
