The Blackbird Bar and Restaurant, at 37-39 Leven Street in the Bruntsfield area of south-west Edinburgh, serves modern Scottish cuisine. It is located close to The Meadows public park, less than 10 minutes by car or taxi from Waverley and Haymarket Railway Stations; Edinburgh Castle and the city centre are around 20 minutes' walk away. The exposed stone walls of its traditional, tavern-like interior give it an authentically Scottish atmosphere and it also has a beer garden in which to enjoy an al fresco drink or bite to eat in the warmer summer months. The Blackbird’s menu is composed of gourmet burgers, fresh fish of the day, hearty soups and sumptuous salads, to be accompanied by something from the drinks menu – a glass of craft beer, premium ale or fine wine, perhaps – organic teas and coffees are also available.

The chicken sandwich was OK but the steak sandwich only had around half a steak and very little peppercorn sauce which was extremely disappointing

The blackbird is one of the best places in town! Our cocktails were excellent and I always love the vibe of this bar! It’s been a while since I’d been there for food and realised they changed their menu (not entirely, they kept the sides). Although I preferred the original menu, their current sandwiches are pretty good.

Great, friendly staff on a busy rugby day. Tasty menu with good gluten free options. Couple more outdoor heaters and it would be perfect!

The area we were seated was too cramped. I had to squash myself in to let an elderly lady move her chair out from her table. The area we were sat was too loud for dinner. We asked for the bill twice before being given it and then I was accidentally charged more than required.

Absolutely loved our trip to the blackbird. I had the chicken burger and my husband the gluten free Philly steak burger. Absolutely delicious. Especially the gluten free burger. We went with an itison voucher so the value was incredible although even without the voucher it was well priced. The girl who served us was lovely and food was served in perfect time. Delighted and will definitely be back.

Fabulous burgers , we all had different ones and we all loved them ! Service was excellent and when we asked if the music could be turned down a little it was done immediately . I’ll definitely be back :)

The food was below par. Having tried in the summer the food was amazing. Crispy fish goujons with pineapple relish. This visit in Feb the fish seemed like it had been frozen, batter was soggy and lumpy. No relish. Very disappointing. Smothered in mayo and siracha. Chips were laden in salt. Poor. Wouldn't recommend this visit

Love this space and had amazingly kind and attentive staff. Enjoyed getting to visit, however the drink prices are a bit high for a neighborhood spot. Was hoping to make it more of a weekly regular spot, but with the drink prices, will have to save for more special occasions.

We had delicious burgers with cheese and bacon in a tasty rolls. The decor was attractive an a bit quirky. Good selection of alchol free drinks - (it was lunchtime!) The blackbird was welcoming to our dogs too. We will be back 0 would huighly recommend.

I ordered the JA salad - bland and watery. Also had the chipotle fries - no different to ordinary fries apart from the price. Padron peppers were nice. Hummus with Mexican fruit? It was melon and it didn’t work in our opinion - each to their own though.

Huge gf burger, lovely slaw, big portions but fries not gf as cooked in cross contaminated oil 😔 and more importantly no desserts 😫 not even ICE CREAM 🍨 Did have a lovely coffee and the staff were the friendliest so will be returning.

The burgers in the Blackbird must be the biggest and tastiest in Edinburgh - an absolute sensation! Combined with excellent service this is definitely a place to return to .
