A must-see restoration of an Edinburgh institution, the art-deco inspired Barony first opened as a drinks merchant in 1896 before becoming a pub and it has been a staple of the Edinburgh food & drink scene ever since. Super great pub, service was amazing. Food was great. Nice place to relax and have a drink and let the world pass on by for a moment. If I’m ever back in Edinburg I’ll be stopping by for a drink again.

They didn’t have my booking and the bar was absolutely rammed. I had to find somewhere else nearby for me and my friends to eat

I booked a table for lunch for 6 people for Monday 8th April through the website, and confirmed our attendance when prompted by email on Sunday. We turned up on time at 1pm to find that the bar was only just opening and that there was no record of my booking. I said that as the place was empty it wasn’t a problem, but it turned out that our menu would be very restricted as there had not been a delivery that day. We had been attracted by the £11 lunch menu but were told that the bar didn’t know anything about it (and it was clear it wouldn’t have been honoured if we had stayed). Apparently The Barony is owned by a London company who don’t tell the bar about things they post on the website. Overall it was clear that no effort was going to be made to host us, so we left and had to find somewhere else to eat. I’m particularly disappointed as I meet friends for food and drink in the evenings in The Barony every few weeks and have always been happy to recommend the bar to others. I sent the bar a couple of emails in the hope of receiving an explanation, but was very disappointed that they did not have the courtesy to even reply.

For pub grub it was very good. All three of us had clean plates. I especially enjoyed the vegetables, as they were not over cooked as is often the case. A good choice of meals. I will eat there again. The Campervan IPA I also highly recommend.

We had a lovely birthday weekend and booked a table at the Barony for an evening meal. Delightful place, full of character and a great ambience. Although very busy at first, which we expected being Easter weekend. There was a lull before the band came on at 9pm. The food was lovely and despite a busy period, the food didn't take long to arrive and it was well presented and worth every penny. Overall a great place to visit with friends for the atmosphere and live music on a weekend. The staff were very friendly and helpful with any queries we may have had. Highly recommend this place.

Menu looks great with a good choice however what was delivered was a poor representation. My trout was a small fillet and the plate was bulked up with 11 pieces of long stemmed broccoli

The Barony was absolutely excellent on a busy Six Nations rugby day. The bar staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the drinks we ordered. We had drinks and a couple of small plates - the haggis bon bons were very, very nice! All in all we really enjoyed our visit and will definitely go back whenever we can.

Food average. Cost expensive for what it was £15.50 for a chicken burger with some chips.. Dogs roaming free. Had to ask for food menu. Staff friendly. Some clearly on their mobile behind bar. Good selection of beers. Won’t hurry back

It’s a while since I’ve visited, but was disappointing. Even though had booked was no table reserved for us, was quiet but still service was slow and we seemed an inconvenience to staff. Food wasn’t as good as it’s been in the past too. Not sure if we just got an off day or it’s not as good as it used to be

I'll be honest in that we booked the Barony, because we couldn't get anywhere else that evening. We've had mixed previous experience with the food not being warm enough, or past it's best towards the end of the night. However on this occasion we were delighted with a succulent chicken schnitzel and teriyaki chicken burger. There's always a good selection of beer too thanks

Lovely Sunday roast. Great portion and lots of roasty potatoes and delicious gravy. Dog was catered for too with a biscuit and bowl of water.

Terrible food, Gammon not cooked, Korean chicken Burger over cooked was chewy and tough, fish finger sandwiches were disgusting. Chips were alright. Had to clear the food from the table myself. When complaint was raised in a polite and direct manner, it was badly handled by the Manager, the Manager didn't want to deal with the "Spokesperson for the table", all round rubbish service.

The staff was indifferent to us. Only one other table of customers inside, yet tables were dirty with crumbs. The staff were talking among themselves at the bar when we arrived and treated us as though we were an imposition to their conversation. The food was bland. Would not recommend.

Whilst the bar is very much a classic / rustic bar in style the food produced it very good for the price . Easy service and quick delivery of the food.

It was quite busy on a Saturday evening but the staff managed to stay on top of it and were very friendly. All orders including food are placed at the bar so that was a bit chaotic, but the staff delivered the food to the table after it was ordered. As busy as it was we didn’t wait long. The food was very tasty. We had the 4 small plates for £22 and it was filling. The pork belly bites were the star, hummus was very good and son said the wings were delish. Don’t know cuz he wouldn’t share! Still don’t know what was in the katsu bon bons (cheese maybe?), but they were good. There were ample tap and liquor choices. It had a real British pub vibe, yet felt current as well. Crowded and noisy so good for a fun night out with friends. There was live music, too. Overall it was great and would definitely return.

One of our best finds in Scotland! We stumbled on The Barony b/c we were starving and had failed to book dinner reservations for the evening, and we just wanted a simple bite near our hotel. This could not have been more perfect!!! We LOVED the fish & chips, super quick service despite being crowded, and the whole vibe of the place was friendly and down to earth and just delightful in every way. It's on our list to visit again on our next trip to the UK.

We really enjoyed this pub. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was quick to come out. My husband got the fish and chips and they were really good. I got a lovely salad and, of course, we enjoyed our drinks!

I had a lovely time at Barony Bar. Their Sunday Roast was absolutely amazing, don't think I've ever had better. The staff was very friendly and they even let me have a different table than the one they'd reserved. After dinner, I got to enjoy some live jazz music.

Great bar. Great staff. Great food. An Edinburgh institution. We went on world jazz day and there was a great wee jazz band in residence.
