The Apparatus Room bridges the old and the new, offering iconic New American cuisine by Chef Rece Hogerheide rooted in Midwestern ingredients, thoughtfully crafted cocktails, and esoteric wines. By blending a three-meal restaurant, elevated dinner service with signature touches, and a world class hotel bar, the Apparatus Room welcomes locals and travels alike to sip, stay, and enjoy one of Detroit’s signature restaurants. Our cocktail program is classically focused with inspiration drawn from the history of the building and the city itself. The ingredients may be familiar and the presentation simple and classic, though each cocktail has a deeper story to tell for those who have time to listen. Sommelier Liz Martinez showcases the diversity of both Old World & New World wines, and the regions are separated as such on the menu. Winemakers that take pride in sustainable, environmental practices are always on the top of our mind.

Some items on the “bar menu” should be on the main menu! Specifically the burger it was delicious. It gives a nice variety.

Always incredible, never fail, friendly, and always very accommodating to different diets. Such patient people and the atmosphere is alway giving the best energy. Been many times for various reasons and have always found myself coming back over and over again. Bravo to the management and staff to keep this fine place in awesome running order. Also great social!

Went for an early Mother’s Day breakfast. Beautiful design! Lovely and attentive staff. Food was good, but not what stood out to me!

We went for brunch and the food was great - some good healthier options. My dad says the waffle was the best he’s ever had, so some good yummy options too! Our server Desiree was wonderful and attentive!

Great atmosphere. Casual and comfortable, upbeat vibe. Saturday brunch good variety of menu items but could have had more items on the menu.

We enjoyed apparatus room. For picky eaters, the menu is a little limited. We thought the food quality was excellent. We were 2 adults and 3 children ages 10-17

Great service… good drinks. Food was blah Ordered the trout, and got a quarter of a fish!! Where is the rest of the fish ! The sirloin steak was mushy. No flavor The oysters were the one thing we truly enjoyed! We highly recommend. Drinks were great. Service was amazing Did not have the dragon eggs, but would recommend them if they have them. Stick to appetizers, ignore the meals

Brunch was fantastic! Try the pastry board! So good! We loved the Dj playing music and the comfy couch with pillows! We will definitely be back!

I liked the vibe. I did not love my food. I took three bites and did not eat the rest. I ordered the salad. The lettuce was not finely chopped or the carrots. The server was ok but vanished after we paid. We had to find another server to pack our food (4 take-home boxes) after being patient to wait for her return (about 15-20 minutes). The other servers were very helpful. I would back and try different food.

Everything was lovely. Brunch was being offered and each item ordered was delish. Staff and Management were very accommodating and exceptional. Will be back in a heartbeat!

This was my first time at the Apparatus Room and it was a fantastic experience. I had made the reservation for my sister and I for her birthday for brunch. The hostess greeted us with awareness of her birthday, there was a table tent card on our table wishing her a happy birthday, and our server also knew and provided us a complementary toast for her birthday! The service and food was amazing and the atmosphere is really beautiful. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the Detroit area looking for a great weekend brunch spot.

Food was mediocre, except for the fries which was awesome. The menu was so so limited for lunch, not a lunch place basically. Hardly anyone there on a Friday lunch so noise level was low which was good for our purpose. The place looks great though. Server was nice but again limited. Won’t be going there again for lunch.

UPDATE: they gave me a refund for the meal, which I thought was very nice and prompted me to change my review. Good management. Original: I informed the waitress of my food allergies, and she confirmed them with me later in the evening. Yet, I was still fed a dessert that contained said allergens, causing an allergic reaction and ending early a special evening we had planned. Even without this horrible carelessness on behalf of the restaurant, the food was not pleasant, and my girlfriend said afterwards she had to force herself to eat the steak. Not to mention the expensive price tag on a ruined evening. 0/10, never recommend. There are plenty of better options in Detroit.

Our first time here and had a wonderful experience. The food was interesting and delicious. Our server Rick was excellent, took his time, was very knowledgeable about and made great recommendations. Awesome atmosphere and Foodie Joint! We sat by an old firefighter pole near where the trucks would have pulled out. We did the ‘surprise us’ chef menu and food was exceptional; give yourselves time to enjoy. The bearded barkeep is a solid gem, gave great recommendations on putting together some cocktail inventions, and our waitress was superb. The manager came by for a table touch and looked straight up exhausted; be easy bro. Overall great date before heading to the Fox, and valet parking is super convenient. Would come again!

We had a great experience. The Brunch menu had items for all. Our group of 9 was pleased with each item they chose. The egg sandwich was delicious! The chicken and waffles were very good! The biscuits and gravy were delicious! Smash burger was a hit. Service was very good! There was a small band playing that was very good as well!

Had a later reservation and the place was still pretty full. Absolutely GORGEOUS restaurant with an amazing backstory as to why it’s named what it is due to the location. Drinks were good but nothing crafty or unique. Took awhile to get the apps even though it was just oysters & bread plate. My partner got the gnocchi which was delicious but I got the eye fish - this dish was flavorless and not worth it. Dessert was puff pastry which was sub average as well. Our server whose name I can’t remember was nice & took good care of us. She did not seem to have an extreme interest of trying to upsell or recommend any dishes for us. Due to a mix up though she gave us an espresso martini on the house which was kind. Go for the atmosphere but maybe just get some starters and go somewhere else for the main.

Amazing food and service. Great vibe in historical setting. Special thanks to our waitress Kate and manager Jacob for assistance with parking crisis! 25th anniversary is memorable due to their attentiveness and overall professionalism. Highly recommended.

Great cocktails. Breakfast was good but not great for price. Empty, was expecting more. Loved the hotel.
