Founded in 1911 as a small ice cream and candy shop in the heart of Downtown Mount Vernon, The Alcove offers the finest dining experience in Central Ohio. Our diverse menu includes steak and seafood favorites as well as our signature Prime Rib of Beef available Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings.     The Alcove is a Mt. Vernon institution. Unfortunately, it is the only restaurant worth any recognition in the entire county. And sadly, it has suffered the recent misfortunes of many food establishments; lack of patronage during Covid, difficulty finding and keeping quality staff. Our recent experiences suggest the food quality is only basically adequate (someone in the kitchen loves to over salt the food). The service staff tries hard but doesn't really know the business (and doesn't seem to stay very long). The decor and "ambiance" is not really anything to write home about. Basically, it's the only game in town. Everything else within miles is simply fast food.

    The service was a little slow in comparison to previous visits. Some of the guest in the immediate area were very loud. This suppressed the whole dining mood. We’ve dined there several times in the past 8 years and been to many performances in the theater so we know typically what to expect.

    The meal was amazing. Our server, Asa, was perfectly attentive, appearing only when needed. My wife, who is gluten free, had the salmon and I the chicken cordon bleu. As I said, amazing and a great value. Appetizers of firecracker shrimp and shrimp cocktail, very flavorful. We finished off with flourless chocolate tort; again delectable. What a treat to have a restaurant of this caliber here in Mount Vernon.

    Our server was Josh or Jacob (I forget) but he was fantastic. The food was great but he made the meal even better with is professionalism and attention to detail.

    We sat in the alcove area, which has a quieter atmosphere, which was very nice. Jacob, who was our waiter, was very attentive and friendly, and I would ask for him in the future! Thank you Alcove, as the food was also delicious!

    The Alcove is THE place to celebrate a special event. We were seated in the alcove, of course, and enjoyed perfectly crafted cocktails, to-die-for appetizers (the Oysters Rockefeller are amazing and Spinach Fromage was delicious), followed by melt-in-your-mouth Sea Bass and Beef Wellington that would hold its own in any culinary competition. The service was perfect; thank you Jacob! I’ve had the pleasure of dining at fine restaurants around the world. The Alcove is a Mount Vernon treasure that not only holds its own, but sets the bar.
