Welcome to Tahona! We are the first mezcal bar and tasting room in San Diego. In our restaurant, we invite you to taste our incredible craft cocktails and our amazing contemporary Mexican cuisine featuring Oaxacan bites. In our tasting room, we welcome you to indulge on a mezcal tasting experience!

We are located next one of the most iconic historical landmark: the Campo Santo Cemetery in Old Town. Inside Tahona, you will be transported to a modern Mexican hacienda designed with hand painted tiles, handmade rope seats, traditionally crafted fabric brought from Oaxaca, hand clayed walls and more.

We also have a cozy covered outdoor patio dining experience so you will have the choice to dine inside our hacienda or on the streets of Old Town!

We had an amazing time at Tahona Bar. The flavours were incredible and the staff attentive to our needs and preferences. Such a cool vibe and the best tacos on our trip so far.

The highlights of our meal were the cocktails, corn croquetas, carne asada tacos and churros. However, the service was not great as we were ignored for the majority of our meal and had to try to flag our server down several times despite the fact that it wasn’t very busy. The guacamole was kind of an embarrassment, it was a small smear of under seasoned guacamole on a plate for $18. The smoked tuna empanadas were extremely doughy and flavorless. Other reviews raved of the corn cheesecake and it was just ok. Two of our diners are a bit picky eaters and asked for some taco toppings to be on the side. The waiter said that would be ok and nothing was on the side for them as requested.

We started at the Speak easy [Oculto 477] first, inside the restaurant what a fun way to start the evening before dinner, loved it. Then sat inside for dinner, we tried the Pozole very yummy, had some different tasty tacos. Loved the salsas and guacamole. Drank the Carajillo it was lovely. The night was super enjoyable, I took my cousin for her 50th bday.

A pleasant surprise. Everything was very good. There was a mixup on our soup order - we had ordered the Green Pozole and the dish they brought out was not Pozole - we weren't sure though and just thought it was a different type of Pozole. Later when we looked at the menu we realized that we had gotten the Chicken Tortilla Soup by mistake. It was good, but would have liked to have tried the Pozole. Had the seasonal guacamole which was very good, chips were fresh. Carne Asada Norteno taco was fabulous. Queso birria taco was very good., Ahi Tostada was great as well. We will return.

The food was fantastic and the drinks were tasty. Unfortunately the service we experienced was subpar - the waiter was MIA for most of our dinner and we were constantly waiting to order. The prices seemed high too - $10-15 per taco. I would go again just because the food was so good, but maybe next time I’ll sit at the bar where the service is quicker and they offer happy hour.

Love this place. Would highly recommend, especially if you’re interested in mezcal. If not there are still plenty of options. Food is also great. We were sitting outside which is less of a vibe but still great service and atmosphere in old town.

I was underwhelmed. I expected the quality of the food to be better. The guacamole display was odd, minimal, and it was not flavorful at all. The birria tacos were delicious but so small and expensive for what you are getting. They could’ve added a consome to fancy it up a bit. The margarita on the happy hour menu was bland and boring. Was expecting more of the entire experience. The service however was great, very attentive.

I went to Tahona on a recommendation from a good friend. The purpose was to meet up with a childhood friend visiting from the east coast. She wanted to have Mexican food since San Diego is a great place for it, and Tahona did not disappoint. I initially made the res for an outdoor table, but it was pretty chilly out that evening and the hostess was very accommodating to let us sit inside even though there was supposed to be another party coming in about 90 minutes later for the indoor table. Right around the time that we were wrapping up to be considerate of the party coming in, the hostess came over to the table and told us she sorted it out, and we could stay at the table. It was really nice because we were catching up and having a great time. The food was delicious. I especially liked the Camarones a la diabla street tacos. The tacos are small but they are filling. I had two and we ordered some tapas to share. Yellow Tail epenadas, signature guac, and stuffed squash blossoms. All very good! The mescal was also smooth and delicious. I will definitely go back and recommend to friends.

Sad to write this. Came here last valentines day and it was phenomenal. This valentines was just okay. The original valentines experience said it included a welcome drink (like last year) but that was not the case. Second, the place was freezing. Turn the heat on especially when many women were in dresses or skirts. The ambience changed also. Last year had live music, this year subpar radio playing. Tables formerly had candles and now cheap looking orange lights. Tahona, go back to what works. We came for ambiance and food. The food was tasty, the changes in ambiance, elimination of welcome drink, any no heat will cause me to skip this venue going forward unless things change. Details matter

Tahona is fantastic as always! Not only are their cocktails (and mezcal/tequila selection) superb, but their tacos are innovative and delicious. I’ve been back twice and the quality is the same. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for upscale Mexican and awesome drinks!

All of the tortillas on our 4 tacos came out cold. When we mentioned the tortillas were cold they were instantly taken back and another hot dish was brought but in the end the tacos were mediocre at best and I can't stand paying $9 for a mediocre taco. And just so you know it was $9 for a street size taco not a big one. I had the huarache, which was good, chips and Chile verde salsa were good too but if you're going to compete in San Diego for Mexican food you can't charge $9 for an ok small taco. I've had much better for a bigger, tastier taco for $5. We won't be going back. EVER.

Such amazing spot. Old town SD has the best late night area to walk around and stop by for a drink. The mezcal options are epic

The food is just not what it used to be. The red salsa is basically tomato sauce, the bao was dry and bland and the mildness was soft. The service is great and it's a beautiful restaurant but only if you get to sit inside.

The food and drinks were delicious! The entire staff from the moment we checked-in for our reservation to when our dishes were cleared, were friendly and awesome. Hope to come back to use the private room sometime soon.

This place has some of the best drinks in Old Town, no neon green margarita mix here. The tacos were delicious, too, and more elevated than the usual.

Great atmosphere and live music. Lively crowd. The cheesecake was wonderful! Drinks were delicious. The corn croquettes were tasty. Our server was friendly and timely. The guacamole was bland, unfortunately.

$105 for chips & salsa (yes, they charge for this), 2 small tacos, one ceviche app, a cocktail and 4 beers for this couple, including tip and tax! This is one of the main reasons we haven't dined or drank here since the opening week 5 years ago. We have come for the occasional excellent Mezcal tastings they host. This time we came for their 5 year anniversary because we were joining friends. We had: 1 cocktail, 4 beers, 1 fish taco, 1 pork belly mole taco, and one small shrimp ceviche with maybe 2 or 3 pieced-up shrimp. We had zero entrees. We had zero Mezcal shots - a one ounce pour of any decent Mezcal here is out of our budget. While the service was good, the food was only average, not excellent considering a price point of $9 to $10 per taco. We eat out often, and always look for good food, and good value but unfortunately we just don't find it here.

I made reservations for inside dining and was sent outside, when there were open tables inside. Service was slow, food came out quickly. The corn cheese cake was delicious. Took about 20 minutes for our server to check out.

This restaurant is AMAZING. The food is great, the service is top notch, and don't skimp on trying one of their Mezcal flights. Speaking on the Mezcal flights, the staff are super knowledgeable and passionate about where the Mezcal comes from. Highly recommend.

Our server was a little bit odd. He didn’t come by for a while and then the hostess, Anika, came by and asked if we’d been helped and we said no. He then rushed over and explained he was slammed and it felt like he was mad at us? But we hadn’t complained, we were just asked if we’d been helped and we answered truthfully. Anika was so kind and professional though! She was wonderful and was on top of everything.
