The name TABERU comes from the japanese terminology 三大欲求・"Sandaiyokkyu" the "three major desires" which are said to be indispensable and key for our lives, and the main one being 食欲・"shokuyoku" which means to eat.
Our chefs are direct from Tokyo and have created a menu never seen in LA before! Our signature dish being YASAI MAKI which are fresh veggies wrapped in pork, beef and vegan options as well!

I was shocked to see that our waiter, I believe his name was Ken, took back one of the skewers on our table after we had already been touching everything. Kinda of unsanitary if you ask me. They accidentally gave us an extra set of skewers which I thought they’d just give to us on the house, NOPE. I assume they gave these already touched and handled skewers to someone else because what was the point of taking it back. I overall liked the concept and atmosphere of the restaurant, but not sure I’d go here again after that one mishap.

We had a great time dining here. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable in the menu. The food is a unique Tokyo / Los Angeles fusion that did not disappoint. I ordered the Tokyo Laksa Noodles which was very delicious.

One of those terrible experiences you have every 5-7 years. The service was extremely slow, the people sitting next to us just walked out after being unattended for 20min, and our food was served 15min apart for each of us (we were 4) so we each ate at a different time. The food is also very mediocre, and our bill was wrong, it had $15 in extra items we didnt order, I dont know how long this place has been up but I dont see a lot of future for it considering the competition. I definitely wont be eating here again.

Second time at Taberu. Good experience. Our server was cool, energetic, nice. Food was bomb. 5/5 this time. Got to try way more of the menu than previously having dined with more people this go-around. Bravo Taberu for opening a concept in Arts District that’s fun, night out vibes, and open on Mondays & Tuesdays, too. Looking forward to visiting again but more so on a weekend to see how social it gets.

A new spot in the arts district, that puts a creative spin on traditional japanese food. It's a great way to try new foods by sharing tastes with friends. The service was prompt, and the food keeps rolling out. They did a very nice job with the space, and the communal table is a fun way to meet people. The outside patio also is great when the weather's permitting.

We ordered from the entire menu, including plates for one member of our party who is pescatarian. Everything was delicious. Service was friendly, attentive, and precise. The mood was full on Tokyo summer night out, So Cal style. We had a blast and left fully satisfied, looking forward to the next time.

The interior of the restaurant was nice but the food and alcohol beverages were mediocre. Make sure you get your points because after we left, the staff cancelled my reservation.

Really wanted to like it. Food itself overall pretty good; fried foods were really hot temperature wise; flavors were intense - fresh, but a bit heavy on both the salt and sugar - perhaps more izakaya style? Main disappointment was service. The server was very nice, but we had multiple multiple things ordered that were missed, and our water was not refilled despite being one of only two tables there. Would probably give Taberu another try sometime in the future

We visited Taberu for the first on a dinner date. Our waitress Valerie was very nice and sweet, prompt service for much of the night. We ordered food mainly from the yakitori small menu and everything was really delicious. We were slightly off put by the need to wrap all of the grilled vegetables in pork but the pork belly around the vegetables are sliced very thin and makes it less prominent and taking center stage. The vegetables - I think we tasted all of them - were incredible. The one roll we ordered was a letdown - super generic and low quality. I would recommend sticking to the grilled / cooked items and the cocktails.

The Tabetai spareribs were excellent. Vegeterian rolls were fresh and the chicken ramen was light. Good ambiance!

We were seated promptly with reservation for Saturday pre-dinner drinks and yasaimaki. We took the outdoor dining which is set up like beer garden fare, tuck in their private patio area away from sidewalk and streets. Our server was great with recommendations and getting our drinks to us all at the same time. The sochu Highs are very refreshing. The Wagyu is juicy and delicious and so flavorful with the chili crunch sauce. The chicken ball was a bit dry. I loved the oyster mushroom wrapped in pork belly. I wanted to try the salmon and ikura but we had to run to our next spot. So a rain check for next time! Oh, and the spa music in the restrooms is so soothing too. A+

The food was different and delicious especially the calamari tower appetizer. I never had the breading on the calamari so light and crispy, and coupled with a homemade tartar sauce, it was excellent. The only item that didn't wow me was the Cha Han (fried rice). It was kind of plain tasting to me although it had quite a few different things in it. But the skewers were all good, especially the mochi balls with nori. Service was good and the wait staff was attentive. The only snag we had was that they didn't know how to process a rewards card or the machine they used couldn't input a hand input.

Other than a hard place to find, this place is a jewel if you love modern Japanese cuisine. I recommend this place to everyone!

We like Taberu very much - the Japanese cuisine at Taberu is very nice and unique. The service is wonderful, too. Everyone at Taberu, including Mr. Sawamura, Marcus, and Ken, is so nice, warm, and professional. Taberu is an all around great dining experience!

Actually service itself was good. There was Uncomfortable music and it was too loud. Food is good quality, but everything is too much fusion for me as japanese. I ordered "yakitori " and was expecting authentic yakitori. But it was indonesian sate. I think this spot is good for American. I won't come back.

Food was under seasoned and missing umami. The service and ambience were good. Although I noted in the reservation notes that we were there for a birthday, no acknowledgement was made -- why bother asking when booking then? The jockeys of drinks were mainly ice so it was a bit deceptive.

Jellied sake? It’s a different texture, for sure, but with a touch of yuzu, it’s yummy. We stuck to the grilled skewers, with the oyster mushroom and the ships being the standouts.

Had the TanTan ramen, Sirloin, and a few veggie skewers for 2 ppl. I'd get it all again and even more veggie skewers because they're all wrapped in pork belly. Pleasantly surprised by how good the food was, prices, and atmosphere. Definitely coming back.

Very good experience at least my wife liked it. I think the food was a bit simple and service needs some sharpening but it’s all very acceptable for a relatively new restaurant. Keep it up!

Excellent food! Super happy that there's finally a legit Japanese izakaya in LA. Very well balanced flavors, not overly seasoned. We really liked the sautéed oyster mushrooms, artichoke mochi tofu gratin, the spareribs, tan tan ramen, tonpei yaki, seafood salad, and chicken rice donabe.
