We had a fantastic experience. The quality was superb and the staff is incredibly kind and forthcoming. Very interesting omikase set with some old favorites and new things to try alike. Highly recommend!

Outstanding Omakase dinner at a wonderful restaurant. One of the best dinners I've had in Japan in my month-long trip. The food is excellent, the service gracious and the owner is very friendly. Get the Omakase course with the sake pairing.

Fabulous omokase with sake pairing. Chef was entertaining and way skilled. Hidden - warning. You’ve got to get to the right address, look for the sign and go down a few flights of stairs. Best sushi we’ve had in years and a wonderful atmosphere at the counter with locals and lots of out of town visitors (like us). Want to go back tomorrow.

Really great attention, food really tasty and so fresh, we ordered the sake pairing and was delicious. First time in Japan, this meal was my favorite from all my trip.

Good solid Omakase on par with most NYC venues. No Michelin star here but delivers in quality and ease of booking through OpenTable making it a simple choice for visitors like me. Sake selection was limited. Desert was my least favorite hence the 4 star. It was a very mildly flavored Sorbet.

I was a solo English-speaking diner and had a wonderful time. The chef was a nice guy, he walked me through each delicious course and taught me about Sake. Highly recommend.

An absolutely wonderful meal with exceptional service. While the sushi was excellent, for me the sake pairing was the standout. I will definitely dine here again.

The meal we received was sensational. At conclusion we stood bowed and applauded the chef. Every dish was a flavour sensation. Our bill was modest for what we received and I will be back in my next Tōkyō trip.

Been here 2 times in 30 days. The best sushi I ever had anywhere, anytime, both times. Last time I flew specifically to Tokyo just to have the sushi. It is THAT good. The party of 8 next to me thought I was crazy when I shared I just flew in for the sushi, but understood by the end. Do not let the first impression of going down the basement scare you. And leave it up to the chef; he knows what he is doing. The food is not the same every time you go. You only get the best of what is available that day.

Amazing amazing food experience We had the Omakase menu ….every course and dish was prepared infront of us. An overall amazing dining experience in Tokyo’s Ginza district. We had tried other impressive Sushi restaurants in Ginza but then decided to look to open table for a somewhat last minute reservation one evening. So so glad we came to Sushi Takaya. From the moment we arrived we received fabulous personal attention. It was cold and we requested a warm interior seat so were seated at the bar, under the nose of the senior chef. After chatting with him a few minutes my husband and I agreed that this was an “Omakase” evening. The chef did not disappoint. There were a few surprises (good ones) to our western hemispheric palate — some fish that don’t make it much further than the Japanese waters. Every bite chef fed us was better than the last. Our Omakase included sake pairing as well, and the sake’s too were fabulous. We would highly recommend Sushi Takaya to everyone and especially the Omakase with the sake pairing.

Delightful Tokyo "dive" culinary experience. Sushi Takaya is located on the basement level just off the street and is not well marked at all, especially to a foreign visitor. It is small and has just enough room for a sushi bar, no table service. The food, service and atmosphere, however, are excellent and those preparing the sushi behind the bar are charming and engaging professionals and make the experience a culinary treat. We would definitely go back to this restaurant given the chance.

The sushi was some of the best that I have ever had in my life. The service was great and the chef talked to me throughout in English and Japanese. Restaurant had wonderful ambiance as well. The only thing is I wish that I got a little more food for what I paid. Flavor was great though.

It took us some time to find the place (it is located in the basement -2 or -3), but once we were seated at the bar, it was the start of a fabulous sushi experience. We took the sushi menu (not the warm dishes) and the 2 chefs skillfully prepared several pieces that were served one by one on a stone plate sitting in front of you. Everything was very good, but the scallop, the fatty tuna (otoro) and the wagyu beef were out of this world. Definitely highly recommended, you won’t be disappointed. Service also friendly and fast. Enjoy!

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had. The restaurant is an intimate place in Ginza and had a very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. It was clean and well designed. My family and I were greeted upon arrival by our friendly host as well as the other employees of the restaurant. We chose the recommended omakase course with a plum wine pairing. The restaurant also offers an extremely broad selection of wine. Each served dish had beautiful presentation and tasted even better. The quality of the ingredients was immaculate. Since we were sat at the counter, we also had an opportunity to interact with the chefs who were very friendly and knowledgeable. They explained each served piece and you could tell that they are truly experts of their craft. The waiters were very attentive, polite, and friendly. It was around $166 USD per person including our drinks, but worth every cent! I would absolutely come here again the next time I visit Japan and I strongly recommend this place!!

This was my first omakase experience and I was extremely pleased by it. The server and chefs were super kind and worked together to explain each course to me in English. The food was extremely delicious and I am going to come again next time I visit Japan. Using open table to reserve let me get a nice evening spot the same day I was looking. Overall highly recommend!

Sushi Takaya is a superb, and classic Ginza, spot. The service is warm and welcoming. The food is excellent. This is just the sort of restaurant that makes Tokyo memorable for a visitor and that leaves a resident feeling grateful to live in such a city. Highly recommended for special occasions, or for a real treat.

I do not recommend to eat at Sushi Takaya. This was the only meal we ate in Tokyo that we did not enjoy at all. We ended up leaving in the middle of the meal. Speak with your hotel or a friend from Tokyo for an omekase/sushi dining experience.
