Sunset Cantina, a Commonwealth Avenue landmark, is right in the heart of Boston University campus center.
We have over 24 drafts available and craft margaritas that will bring you right back to Mexico. We take abuela's traditional recipes and have brought them to your dinner table. Enjoy tequila tastings, your favorite sports game, sizzling fajitas and live entertainment!

We feature comfortable seating, televisions and vintage beer and sports memorabilia on the walls. Whether having girls' night out, Sunday brunch or enjoying trivia with friends, the friendly and helpful staff at Sunset Cantina will make sure the experience is a positive one.

Menu not great and food was very bland. Margaritas were limited and not very good. Service was ok but 20% was auto-added so it seemed liked there was no incentive for the server to give good service. Also, additional 3.5% tip for the kitchen automatically added to our bill, but the food wasn’t very tasty and it wasn’t super busy so I’m not sure why it was added.

We ate off of the "event menu," which was quite limited. The portions were small and the prices were high. Service was barely minimal, the waiter essentially ghosted us after we ordered. Our appetizer didn't arrive until after the meal was brought to the table. When we finished we then waited easily 25-30 minutes before we got our check.

We were there before it seemed to really pick up for the evening. So, our seating was easy and our noise level was low. The hosts were very accommodating and the servers attentive. The beer selection was decent - and the food was pretty tasty.

The waiters were so nice. The $3 tacos on taco tuesday are the best, very worth it. And I love their churros. We came in with a party way larger than I reserved and they very kindly accommodated us. Big fan.

Love the ambiance, food was tasty and service excellent but very overpriced. $12 for a few chips and guacamole was outrageous. Needed two for four people. So $25 basically for just guacamole and a few chips🎅

Unbelievably bad service overshadowed the food. What food made it to the table was really good. The problem was the unbelievably bad service. My entre was served to me and we waited and waited and waited for my wife's entre. Around 15 minutes after my meal made it we had to flag down the server who had no clue what was happening since she never checked back to see if the food was ok. She eventually found out they delivered the other entre to the wrong table. We had to ask if they're now going to make one for her which we asked for. After waiting another 15 minutes and still no food we had them cancel it and we left. In the meantime my food was ice cold since it had been more than 30 minutes since it arrived and still nothing for my wife. Not once did a manager come over to speak with us, only the server. Somethings badly broken with the service staff here. The service is among the worst of hundreds where I've dined over the years. It bad, just so bad.

Had a party of 6 with reservations made a while ago. Was excited for a nice dinner and some drinks before the Jelly Roll concert at Agganis. Well that is where everything went down hill. Literally 30 mins for a drink, when they came. Food came at various stages and was just ok. Very disappointing. They appeared very understaffed. We were not the only folks that experienced this as we saw other tables come, sit down, wait and then leave with no food and drinks. They even ran out of Corona! Oh well, at least the concert was good. Prices were average for Boston. If we were to go again it wouldn't be on an event night. There was a special event limited menu that should have probably been our warning. So much for the convenience of being across from Agganis.

They were dumb and lost their liquor license for a few days over a holiday weekend. Staff was playing beer pong when we walked in and barely noticed us. We ended up going somewhere else.

Sunset Cantina has their groove back. The service is exceptional. The staff is in such a good mood and they walk around singing. The food is delicious. Drinks are impeccable. I had an amazing time and I highly recommend the Sunset Cantina. Be sure to make a reservation if you can. The atmosphere is festive and casual and comfortable.

Make reservation for 6pm for a quick dinner before a concert starting at 7pm right across the street. Arrived at 6pm, was seated at 6:22pm. Ordered everything right away since I noticed how slow things were going. Received water at our table at 6:50 and the food did not arrived until 7:20pm. I want to highlight the the staff working were trying their best, running around try to accommodate everyone but the 20-min wait to be seated, 30-min wait to get waters, and 1-h wait for food was completely unacceptable. This place is right across the street from Agganis Arena and should be better prepared to receive concert goers on a concert day. Would not return.

The service was very very slow. Nearly an hour from ordering food to receiving it. We were going to a concert and we’re concerned we would be late (and we did let the server know before ordering). When I inquired on the status of our order, I was told they are very busy. Not a helpful response. Food was tasty though. Not sure if I will return.

We had a dinner reservation for 6pm we were seated as we arrived. However, our server didn’t come to the table for 10 minutes and let us know they were really busy and the bar and kitchen were backed up. He is it would be 25 minutes for drinks and food. We were fine with that since we were going to a concert next door. However the food took an hour it arrived it was ok. The drinks never came we told our server to cancel them since it already had been over an hour. We know it wasn’t his fault but the restaurant should really plan ahead and make sure they have enough staff when there is a concert at the venue next door.

Was looking forward to dinner here before a concert at Paradise. Pretty quiet for 7pm, we sat at the bar. After waiting for 10 minutes the bartender asked if we were ready to order, and the next time they came over was to ask if we were ready for the check. Food and drinks were good but service made me not want to come back.

The food was good. Surprised to have to pay $6 for chips and salsa??? The location is perfect, right across the street from Agganis Arena, which is where we had show tickets. There is also very convenient parking available! It’s a great place to grab food before an event!!

My friends and I went here for Taco Tuesday, which offered one taco for $3. I got two carnitas and one steak taco, and they were pretty good (and I liked the steak one more), it wasn't really that much food. The chicken nachos were fire, and split between 5 people it was also only $3 each, plus they offer a 15% discount for showing your student ID. The music in there was so loud and service was on the slower side for not seeming to be super busy. It took us over 30 minutes to pay for our meal because we put our cards down and our server didn't come back for a while. Very lively ambiance but hard to have conversation at the table because it was so loud.

We went to Sunset Cantina to meet friends for dinner before a show. We were able to sit outside, which was lovely. The food was solid and delicious! I wish I could give a higher score, but I can't. The service was sparse at best, and several times I had to go up to the bar to get another beer or settle up the check. (Side note - the bartender was fantastic. He was so great.) There were hardly any tables filled in the restaurant, so I don't know why that was the case. Also, the check had an automatic 20% tip added to it. When I asked about it, I was told that happens for parties with over 6 people (we were only 5), and during 'events'. When I asked what event was going on, the answer was mostly just a shrug of the shoulders. I left it at that and we departed.

This place is really good and gives a nice welcoming feel. The taco Tuesday deals were too good to not partake in and the prices cant be beat. The steak taco is definitely the best taco to get! The house Marg hits home for what its worth. Definitely will be going back , especially for the Brunch !

Our waiter didn't check on us much and it's a really nice place I think we came on a off night I don't know.
