Stella Van Buren is a fresh take on the Italian-American steakhouse with the flavors of a classic Italian kitchen, modern style, unique design and food that appeals to today’s diner. Slow-cooked meats and flavorful house-made pastas are the traditional comfort-food classics that Italians have been roasting, baking, curing, and making in their own kitchens for generations. Bar service begins at 4pm. Saturday, dinner service at 5pm. Breakfast available Saturday and Sunday from 7am-10am and 6:30am-9:00am Monday thru Friday.

We were a party of 9 for graduation. We ordered alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks when we sat down. All the drinks were served at the same time expect for an aperol spritz. It arrived about 10 minutes later than the other drinks and we had to ask 2 servers what happened to it as it held up us toasting the graduate. Then when our meal arrived -all the meals arrived at the same time except our guest who ordered the black truffle bucatini. This arrived about 5 minutes after everyone’s. Again, we had to wait until her meal arrived to eat. Because we were a large party - they automatically added 20%. Not deserving. Would not return here. Service was not great. The waitress was pleasant and tried her best but clearly not her fault. The cooks and bartender were clearly overwhelmed by the amount of guests at the restaurant for the evening.

Walking in you’re greeted with a warm ambiance as you walk by a luxurious bar with a great selection of whiskey (some of which are not on the spirits menu, not sure how to get them). For our anniversary it was the perfect quietness allowing us to have a more intimate experience, although the restaurant itself had few patrons. Appetizer of choice was the burrata bruschetta which was great! Main coarse consisted of their bolognese and 18oz bone-in ribeye which had a good amount of rendered fat which left the steak juicy and delectable (despite being undercooked: rare instead of medium rare) while my significant other was pleased with her bolognese. Along side we coupled the Parmesan asparagus and their Marsala mushrooms with our dishes, both of which had great flavors! Drinks were reasonably priced; their strawberry mule was quite delicious! We didn’t end up staying for dessert but were greeted by their manager before the end of our stay at Stella to ensure everything was good! Overall a great experience and something I would recommend to friends and family!

Honestly disappointed. host was great. place is very nice to view. drinks very good, however, very small and $$$, but guessing that's how downtown is. server was marginal, service speed was fine, two $$$ aged steaks (rib eye, NY Stirp) came out totally under cooked, barely rare, slight caramelized crust and room temp or below dark red for 95% of the meat. no one came by for 5 minutes and asked about food. by then i decided not to discuss, this is totally on me. my thoughts are for this setting, these steaks should have at least been close to med-rare, there were not even close. it's like they have no experience in preparing these meals. The 4 sides also ordered were much better and I won’t be picky here. Lastly the desserts totally looked pre-boxed and served, a lemon tort and chocolate-raspberry tort. The more I think about my experience the more I feel I paid for a pretty place; we should have stopped at the drinks.

We recently visited Stella Van Buren for dinner, to celebrate a special occasion. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. The food was excellent and service was good. Our only area of low satisfaction was ambiance. Many newer restaurants are poorly designed for sound reduction. This needs the addition of soft fabrics and fewer hard surfaces. Additionally, below the restaurant was a bar/club that was hosting a party. Throughout our dinner the music was so loud that our table was vibrating and it was very annoying. Another bad design choice. To return, we would first need to make sure there was nothing going on below the restaurant. This is a ridiculous requirement isn't it?

Took a bit to get first drink, after that pretty much everything was perfect. Oysters were fresh, burrata delicious and fresh, lamb meatballs incredible, steak with lobster perfect temperature and combination. Bread pudding good consistency and ice cream complimentary. Would definitely go back. O yes, the whiskey selection is maybe the best in milwaukee at a restaurant?!?

The food is fairly good particularly prime steaks and many of the appetizers. The problem was the place was understaffed and took over two hours to eat with things like appetizers arriving before cocktails, etc. The waitress was extremely nice but overwhelmed by the number of people as was the manager.
