State of Grace is a coastal, South Texas neighborhood restaurant in the refurbished Lamar-River Oaks Shopping Center. Elegant but casual, its elevated comfort food by executive chef Bobby Matos is executed at the highest level in a welcoming, beautiful space. The jubilant medley of old favorites played with new spice, accent, and freshness lends itself to southern, American, Latin, Gulf Coast, German and Asian influences. Chef-owner Ford Fry’s first venture outside of Atlanta, State of Grace is located in the neighborhood where Ford grew up and nods to his childhood memories fused with Houston’s evolution into a melting pot of cultures and cuisines.

Beautiful restaurant. Our server did not want to be at work was the feeling we got. The table next to us had a completely different service than we did. Their server (very nice gentleman with a beard) explained the menu, offered recommendations, and luckily we were able to hear so we knew what was recommended. Our server seemed irritated that we were there and didn't recommend anything. Bread was not offered, hand towels were not offered, we did get our drinks quickly from the bar. The food was ok. The hushpuppies were too sweet and I didn't taste any crab, the peach salad was bland, but my pasta was good. My husband loved his filet. Not sure we'd try them again.

Juan our server was very warm and attentive, and moved at the perfect pace. Food was overall wonderful - greens of the moment could have been a bit more interesting and the portion was massive. The marinated crab claws, lamb shank, and chocolate ball dessert were favorites. The octopus was delicious albeit slightly too spicy for our group, and the single tentacle could have been larger. Noise in the back dining room was quite loud, to be expected on a busy night at peak time.

Food was wonderful. Colby was our server and he is hands down the best! Just the right amount of attention. Nothing but 5 stars!!

Everyone was great. The manager was awesome on solving the problem with our gift card that we received. From the service to the food was amazing. A definite go back to.

Second visit and we questioned ourselves why we waited so long to return! I ordered steak ...We frequent steak houses often so I wasn't sure they could stand next to the best BUT proven wrong ! Sooooo good! Elizabeth was our server and AWESOME! Kind and helpful the entire experience . We did eat the Texas Pecan Ball-life changing dessert😇🤪! Can't wait to go back in a few months!!!
