This place-what the fxxk ! Worth every penny! Last time I was here was 7yrs ago, try getting in w/o res you’re fuckt. Anyways, this place is full of magical goodies .

I had really been looking forward to trying State Bird Provisions and was so disappointed with our meal. The food was nothing special. Service was slow. I love the dim sum style concept, but in execution the selection was uninteresting and the things we did choose weren’t all that tasty.

We appreciated the concept of using the dim sum style roving carts. The service was very efficient, helpful and personable. The ambiance and vibe was very lively and fun, but the noise level was high so, for some elders, it made conversation difficult. The variety of dishes were creative and fun to try. Since this was our first time at the restaurant, our picks from the roving carts were sort of pot luck so some dishes we loved and others, not so much. I think it would take another visit or two to figure out what to say "yes" to and what to say "no thank you" to, for our tastes.

We had an enjoyable evening at State Bird, but it was the consensus of the group that the food wasn’t quite up to the standards that we had experienced before. A lot of the dim sun style dishes seemed repetitive, lots of salad this salad and salad that. Generally not what I would call special, tasty surprise. The state bird quail was great as always, and our steak was tasty, but we also found it salty and a little tough for cutting with a butter knife. Service folks were great as always noise as loud as always.

This is our fourth time back to State Bird Provisions and to say it never disappoints after so many years, is quite the understatement. They are back to offering their dim sum menu, which is wonderful -- but the standout dish of the night was actually from their a la carte menu -- the garlic chive pancakes with kimchi and honey butter...Oh My God, so good. And, this is after enjoying what has been our go-to, favorite dish here: duck liver mousse with duck fat financiers. Can't recommend enough for inventiveness, savory quality and all around, totally satisfying fare.

One of top places in SF. Dim sum style of American food is epic good idea. The pancakes, asparagus fried rice are all stellar. Great crew, good energy - bring out of towners here if you want then to move here.

We had the most fabulous time at State Bird from the foods to the servers to the music to the artwork. It was truly a treat of an experience!! One of the people in our party has celiac disease and they were so accommodating too. Couldn’t recommend it more!!

It was our first time in this restaurant. It was above the expectations. WE celebrated our friend birthday. Two couples. We brought our own wine. The food was amazing, we tried almost everything what they offer and never been disappointing. Oysters, lamb tartar, trout , wagu toast, state bird, cucumber, scallops and of course dessert vanilla sandwich- everything was so delicious. Our waiter Heather was so nice and helpful with ordering the food. We spent 3 hours in restaurant. Was hard to make a reservation. Did at least 3 weeks in advance. Will be back. Our compliments to chef!

Some dishes were honestly underwhelming. I enjoyed my first visit here more than this one. The menu adapts, so it makes sense that not every experience will be the same.

This was our second dinner at SBP. It was amazing. The small plates are perfect for sharing and enjoying many different flavors. Everything was delicious. The popcorn ice cream sandwich was especially yummy!

Very good food in general and friendly service, but the signature quail dish disappoints both in terms of taste and value. Regrettably, the place is vastly overpriced, very, very noisy and has lousy ambiance for a fine dining experience. The tables and room are like something you might expect in a middle school cafeteria.

I have literally waited for years to get a reservation at this restaurant, and it truly was worth the wait. Everything was magnificent! All the different types of yummy food from duck dumplings, oysters and the AMAZING sourdough pancakes. EVERYTHING was spectacular! The staff were wonderful too. Every single person we spoke with was helpful and or friendly. I can’t wait to go back! What a true San Francisco Gem!

ARMANDO was the best, it was my boyfriends first time in San Francisco, and for our last day meal, this was perfect. Brooke Williamson of Playa Provsions suggested I come here, and it did not disappointing. Our server was attentive, polite, and for engaging. When we come back, we only want him as our server. Give him a raise in the meantime while we anxiously wait to come back to State Bird Provisions.

Service was EXCELLENT! The Wait staffs and the host were super friendly. The dimsum cart made the food always available, those pre-plated appetizers are very tasty. The overall food and concept is very creative and uniquely Californian.

Our first time eating at State Bird. The food was expectedly top notch with dishes that surpassed my preconceptions; I was surprised by how much I liked some items I thought would be just okay. Stands outs would be the pastrami and the paté. We were mesmerized by the entire team’s coordination and cohesiveness. It was as much a pleasure watching this well-oiled machine function as a family as it was to eat the food.

Always a pleasure to eat here with incredible service—but some misses this time. Usually they get all things right. The bread was too soggy and the egg was too runny. But otherwise amazing as always

State bird Provisions is a very unique experience. You pick the base food for your table and then staff endlessly brings around small plates for purchase with a cost of $4 to $14 each. All of the food was delicious. The food varied from a duck dumpling to a strawberry salad. Each small plate was flavorful and a great addition to our meal. Please note every night has a new variety of choices. This is our second visit and the restaurant would be our first choice on the next visit. The ambiance is relaxing and the service is some of the best. Go! You won’t be sorry. Book early as there are lines of people waiting for the door to open,

Dim sum style is definitely very fun and allows you to try a lot of different things. I would say get the state bird, the ice cream sandwich, the pancake, and the sourdough. All other food was great, but truly must say the ice cream sandwich was outstanding and one of the best if not the best dessert I’ve ever had. Be forewarned that the trade off for the amazing prices is the presentation of the dishes.
