Established in 1959, owners Jenny Youll and Mike Sabina expanded the once small coffeehouse of St. Michaels Alley into this intimate dining establishment in 2009. The restaurant provides three comfortable spaces for a dinner out with friends, date night, or a complete private event. The main dining room is wood paneled and intimate. The front room / bar area is more casual and social, yet still offers tables with linens and the full menu. The solid wood bar is a favorite dining spot for many of the regulars and locals. A beautiful outdoor patio is most enjoyable on warm summer days and nights as it open to the sky. Enjoy a cocktail at the full bar before venturing into one of the upscale and relaxed dining spaces of St. Michael's Alley.

The restaurant is currently offering the Autumn Menu on the Patio as well as takeout, Tuesday through Sunday starting at 5pm.

We can accommodate private and semi-private groups. For a full buyout, the dining room seats up to 50 people. The bar seats an additional 20 people, but is separate from the dining room. Price for the entire restaurant for the entire night ranges from $7,000 - $10,000. Two semi-private spaces are available and separated with a heavy curtain. The smaller space seats up to 20 people ($2000-$2400), and the larger space up to 26 people ($2400-$2800). Please call us at 650-326-2530 for more information.

A gem of a venue, immaculately maintained, an oasis within the town. When you want a nice but unfussy meal with elevated, yet not overly serious, surroundings.

We have been here several times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. We dined with friends for an early dinner on a week night. We started with a cup of the special vegetable soup which was savory and pleasant. For mains, we had Branzino, Scallops, Sea Bass, and Duck. Everyone raved about the dishes. We had one diner who requested a special mod and the staff responded perfectly. The presentations were exquisite, flavors wonderful, and portions just right. My favorite was the duck - perfectly cooked with a red curry coconut sauce with just enough bite to make this dish a standout. For dessert we tried the profiteroles and pineapple bread pudding. Personally, I was not impressed with the profiteroles, but the rest of the table loved the bread pudding. We arrived at 5:45 and for about 30 minutes we had most of the dining room to ourselves - perfect for pleasant conversation. By the time we left, the room was starting to fill up and the noise level went up a few notches, but still ok. The staff was wonderful and accommodating as usual. This remains one of our favorites in the area. We will be back many times.

Fish fillets were swimming in butter - they were gross after a few bites. The rest of the food was boring. Server’s barely spoke English - we really had a hard time understanding him. Order took a very long time to come out, even though the place wasn’t busy. Not sure who was to blame- the server or the kitchen. Even simple things like a glass of hot water, that my wife asked for, took 20 minutes to come out. Check was $122. We have been here before- this time it was really bad. We won’t be coming back.

We always choose this place for our celebratory dinners because we always enjoy everything about it having watched it grow over many years. Yesterday was no exception; the unusual mussel appetizer was delicious and our entrees both were spot on. They do a wonderful job with rack of lamb, always perfectly med-rare, as well as with seafood pasta and choose an interesting and variety of sides to accompany the lamb each time I have it. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Their wine selections are also excellent and the service always first rate. Thanks you!

This is a cute place. We sat in the indoor lounge area at a table. They have a more formal dining room and a pretty patio as well. The food was tasty, some of the portions were a little small like our octopus appetizer. We were happy with the food overall and liked the menu options. The biggest letdown was our server, he didn’t have much to say other than “what do want to order” and “here’s your check.” Everyone else was friendly.

Service was a bit off. Water for the table was warm, bread did not get brought to the table after ordering it, used plates not cleared. Hope it was just an “off night”.

A great fine dining experience. Food quality was excellent - soups, appetizers, entrees and desert. Lots of food choices as well. A few different wait staff served our party of 6 - the girl was outstanding, the 2 men average (e.g. challenge getting water), hence the 4 service rating. Great table outdoors, great ambience. Overall a 5. We have been there several times before, would go again and recommend the restaurant.

From the enthusiastic greeting from the hostess when entering , to the fantastic service from our waitress, as well as the excellent food and cocktails, we couldn’t have asked for a better first visit. Will definitely be back.
