I generally do not like to leave unfavorable reviews , but this reservation warrants one. The food was ok, but not worth the prices being charged. Server was unprofessional and lacked knowledge of the menu . The hostess and assistant waiter were very nice. There are so many wonderful choices in Playa del Carmen. This was not one of them .

Vivimos en Playa del Carmen, vinieron unos amigos de fuera de México y los llevamos a cenar aquí. Este es uno de los pocos restaurantes en playa que valen la pena. Su comida es excepcional el Aguachile de camarón es el mejor que he probado (incluso lo ajustan en el picor, que en esta ocasión se necesitaba así) Los aperitivos son muy muy ricos. Los cortes son excepcionales: Akaushi es mi favorito. Lo único mejor que la comida es el servicio!!! El servicio siempre es excepcional lo recomendaría siempre

Pessimo experience. Tuvé una mala experiencia el mes pasado pero pensé que era porque era temporada alta. Volvi para darles otra oportunidad y fue pero. En Enero no tenia aperol y les faltaba un MONTO de cosas del menu. Servico muy lento. Esta vez ahora volvi con dos clientes. TERRIBLE. Primero de nada pidimos tres aperol spritz me dice el mesero que se le acabaron el vino espumoso. La verdad me quede impresionada, un restaurante en plena 5ta avenida en la noche del superbowl y no piensan en ir a comprar mas espumoso? impresionante que terrible servicio. El mesero timido casi no se escuchaba, habia que pedirle repetir todo varios veces. Despues antes de poder pedir empeiza con: no tenemos los siguentes plantos del menu..... igual que el mes pasado les faltaba UN MONTO de cosas del menu y obviamente uno que yo queria pedir. Llegaron las ensaladas 35min despues de haber pedido. Los platos principales llegar MIENTRAS que estabamos comiendo las entradas. Mi arrachera llego en un plato con patas abajo. Faltaba uno de las patas asi que el plato no quedaba plano y se movia, Asi me lo mandaron de la cocina y me lo entregaron sin darse cuenta. Pido otro plato y en vez d cambiarlo el, me traje un plato de entrada, las que son para compartir entradas, ni cabe mi arrachera y que tuve que levantarlo y cambiarlo de plato. Resulta que me habia quitado los cubiertos y no tenia para empezar a comer, otros 5min buscando mesero para traerme cubiertos. La arrachera FRIA y pero que un filete de Soriana. Las papas tibias. De mis invitados - llevar un plato de pasta y olvidaron de pedir el otro, asi que ellos compartieron un plato de pasta entre dos. La verdad que mal gusto todo.

The restaurant on the weekends tend to be very crowded, and the music played on the outside speaker is louder by a DJ I believe. Therefore, we chose to go on a Monday, which was a little more quiet. There was music still playing on the speaker, but it wasn’t a DJ and it wasn’t as loud. The servers were attentive, and the food arrived quickly but then again, the restaurant was probably at half capacity. The food was good as well as the drinks. I would try this restaurant again.

El servicio fue muy lento, no se si fue por falta de Personal, y muchas cosas a la mera hora ya que ordenamos y esperamos a que nos sirvieran nos dijeron q ya no había.

I reserved a table for 15 people through OpenTable. I was hesitant that the reservation would be confirmed, but everything was perfect. We took a taxi from our resort and arrived in the heart of Playa and Sonora Grill was phenomenal! The vibe is so fun, and it was more than we could have ever dreamed of. The wait staff was wonderful, very patient with us and took care of our every need. We had children from 10 years old through 65 year old, and the food was phenomenal. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough to anyone! We are so thankful for our experience, and will always remember this night. Do not hesitate, it is amazing!

Fuimos a cenar en navidad, tenían la carta normal, pero, casualmente se había acabado los cortes “más baratos” (que ninguno es barato) y estaban vendiendo puro prime. Jamás lo dijo el mesero, la capitana de meseros que se presentó al inicio, le comentamos, no supo qué decir ni mucho menos resolvió. Al final, nos faltaron 60 pesos por el 10% de la propina, y el mesero hasta nos fue a seguir por esos 60 pesos. Lo mejor: la actitud del garrotero, excelente tipo de Tabasco, lo peor: todo lo demás

We were four people for Christmas dinner, they could only offer half the menu for both food and wine, most of it was the most expensive stuff. Staff were OK, but missed orders, and three out of four meals were terrible. My steak was perfect, but only because I asked to see the meat, picked the right piece and also specified how I wanted it grilled. My friend had a terrible tasteless lasagna, and my other friend first had the worst most rubberish chewy octopus ever, then complained and got pasta with the worlds driest shrimp I've ever had, it's like they had been on the grill forever. The three others were server a warm house wine, I wanted a nice Rioja with my steak, of course they didn't have the one served by glass but I was able to convince them to server me a glass of a ribera del duero instead, that they usually only served by bottle, and I specified I wanted it to be 17 degrees celsiums. The waiter brought the wine, had me check the temperature and it was not bad. In the end we just wanted to get out of there as quick as possible so we just paid and left, and the two dishes we returned was not on the bill. Water though, was so expensive, and not on the menu so no way to know the price. I get that this was a busy day, but it was a disaster and ruined our evening. Overpriced, noisy, for the most part bad food and I see no reason anyone would go eat there. But it's on the fifth, so people who don't know will always go by and think this is a nice place. My recommendation is to STAY AWAY. So many other good restaurants, like Ferron's where I got the best jerk beef I ever tasted.

El lugar no estaba lleno y aun así el servicio estaba lento, probablemente tienen poco personal. Faltaban cosas del menú de comida y bebidas. Se pidieron 3 cortes y solo a un comensal le preguntaron el término.

Somos clientes frecuentes ya que la comida es muy buena, el servicio impecable, nos encanta la música que el dj pone, nada de reggeton, Pura electrónica, ese conjunto fe factores, los hace, para nosotros, el Lugar perfecto. Un defecto, la carta de los vinos.

No tenían la mitad del menú disponible, y eso que había poca gente. Y curiosamente lo unico con que contaban en el menú, era con los platillos a más caros y que además después de probarlos, están sobrevaluados. Decepción con otros Sonora Grill que he visitado.

Me gusta mucho por la calidad de la carne y el sabor de su cocina. Los frijoles ya siento que no los hacen como antes o al menos como en los otros sonora que he ido. No son tan “meneados” como los anteriores que el sabor era más norteño. Todo lo demás sigue muy bueno!

Cambiaron el menú para mejorar y lo que tienen es delicioso, buena música, buen sonido y sobre todo excelente servicio. Y la promo de dobles que tienen con sus destilados no puede faltar. Regresaremos, recomendación 1000%

Fabulous food and wine menu. Very fresh ingredients. Exquisite presentation. Some of the best beef ever eaten. Only negative was the music was so loud you couldn’t talk/socialize during the meal.

Great food and service in a very stylish setting. If I could change one thing it would be to salt the steaks less - the quality is great, so doesn’t need as much salt to bring out the flavour. All in all though, the best restaurant we have visited in Playa del Carmen - would definitely recommend.

The service was outstanding William was exceptional server. The food presentation was outstanding. Steak cook to perfection the cauliflower was a surprise with its presentation. Sonora Grill is worth the visit, but Sonora prime, for me is more my style. I’m older and enjoy the more ambience of Sonora prime, but can appreciate Sonora Grill as well.

Atención y sugerencias fueron muy amables y acertados. El volumen de la música era exagerado considerando que estábamos cenando a las 7.30pm, era difícil tener una conversación. La comida deliciosa!

Muy buen ambiente. Sería bien tener más música latina. La comida fue muy rica, buen cocinada con sabor. Hubo un poquito de una falta de comunicación entre los mesoneros y yo cuando pidé mi último plato y me trajeron el plato equivocado, expliqué y por un momento un mesonero intentó a convencerme que el plato fue lo que pidé y tuve que explicarle otra vez para que lo borren de la cuenta- y eso cambio la energía para mi. Pero 4/5- muy bonito el restaurante y la comida me satisfizo.

I have dined at the other Sonora location in playa several times in the past couple of years and as recently as a week ago. Despite the lukewarm ratings that this location has gotten, as a matter of convenience I dined there this week and found the experience barely acceptable. The waiter was busy clowning around and was completely inattentive until I waived him over. I ordered a bottle of not inexpensive white wine and he brought it warm, with a bucket of barely iced water with which to “chill” it. I had to insist three times that he bring more ice, and nearly had to argue with him that it was not yet cold enough to drink. Frustrating. I ordered a not inexpensive steak, to be prepared medium rare, accompanied by the house mushrooms as side, and a Cesar salad. The salad was the only bright star. The steak arrived on a sizzling shell platter but was, alas, nearly raw not not even close to medium rare. The waiter was missing so long I decided to cut it into slices and hope it would cook further on the hot steel. Problem was that the steak knife was so dull it wouldn’t cut butter. Flagged a busboy down who promptly brought a new knife over but hey, if they don’t sharpen one why should I expect the replacement to be any better. I sawed through a couple of pieces and cooked them a bit more on the steel and tried the mushrooms. Cold, as if they had been set aside for too long agmfter plating. Flavor was good but who really eats cold mushrooms? The highlight was the dessert, a baked apple pastry that was quite good. The waiter was terrible. I paid the check and reluctantly gave a 10% tip which to me is a good as not tipping but demonstrates that I’m not cheap. I told the floor manager of my issues and he expressed neither surprise nor empathy. The entire meal was >$150 USD. I do not recommend this location nor will I return

Terrible service..... waiter didn't know what he was doing .... had to ask for water 3 times..... mixed up our food at table....no communication....... made us wrong drinks twice ( cocktails are $23.00 US each..... that more expensive than London or New York.... simple whisky sour and a Mojito)....... I had heard from a friend it was a good place but obviously gone down hill
