Small Barn is an exciting addition to the Temecula restaurant landscape offering a casual but elevated dining experience in the form of a modern bistro. The menu is inspired by classic preparations found on bistro menus around the globe while showcasing the bounty of ingredients produced in the region. The restaurant atmosphere is crafted to be a welcoming gathering place that is beautifully designed and relaxed, but with a vibrant energy that encourages socializing and discovery.

On the site of the historic Knott Family Homestead, Small Barn has brought new life to a landmark building from the early 1900s. Great care has gone into preserving the structure and with it the legacy of a prominent Temecula family that was among the area’s first settlers. Small Barn has maintained the original residential scale and offers extensive outdoor seating including the large wrap-around porch, covered patio and fireside lounge seating.

Very small portions for the price of the plate, protein was delicious.. service was terrible. No napkins asked for them twice, no pesto for chicken. We turned heaters on ourselves. Waited for check toooo long. If this is considered fine dining, the server should understand what the expectation is, especially when paying $33-$60 a plate for a protein and grilled onions, also should considered adding a carb to the plate.

This restaurant is very cute and I love their twist on food. I would’ve given them a 5 star except the poached eggs on my eggs Benedict were overcooked. Seems like most restaurants can not get this right. Oh well, the rest of the meal was outstanding! Loved my Bloody Mary cocktail. A meal in itself. 😊

It was over all a bit underwhelming. At the start we were informed that they are out of burgers. This was surprising as the restaurant did not seem over crowded and it was 4:00 pm and was ahead the full evening. We were seated at the patio and apparently they ran out of gas for the heater so it was cold. That was another shocker as to why in Temecula a restaurant has such difficulty in storing propane tanks! The food and the drinks were great and out server was good too but the tables were not enough roomy for a medium sized group of 6. We had much bigger expectations on the place.

The indoor chair booths were extremely uncomfortable, glasses smelled like a wet dog. Couldn’t drink out of some of them.

Date night for the wife and and our first time here. Arrived on time for our 6:30pm reservation and were promptly greeted and seated. Our server for the night Andrea (I believe). She was very friendly and had no issues with her service. The food was mostly the issue, way overpriced and just ok. I ordered the peppered steak, and it was, well, very peppered. Overpoweringly so. It also tasted burnt. Had to scrape a lot of it off to actually see what the steak tasted like. It wasn’t very well seasoned or flavorful other than the pepper. Wife had the chicken, it was a bit on the dry side. Had the butter cake for desert, this was the star of the show! Really tasty, but hey, it’s butter. The ambiance was nice, it’s a quaint little spot. We just weren’t impressed with the value of the food we had.

Ordered the sweet Tomato soup & fried feta sourdough bread. Both excellent. Sat inside at a table that was very unstable. Personnel tried their best to fix with napkins but if one is to enjoy a nice dining experience, ownership should ensure seating arrangements are in good working order. This should always be a priority for the customer experience.

Underwhelming best describes this restaurant. Not bad but not great. Not gluten free friendly but easily could be. No omelets. Feta appetizer was good. Service was timely, indulgent and attentive. Cocktail menu was good. If the chef and owner put a little more effort into the food menu as they did with drink menu, they would get more business.

This was our second time here. Our first time we really loved the food and experience. This time around, the service was a bit slow. My burger was supposed to be cooked medium but it came out dry and well-done. My wife ordered the salmon and it had little to no seasoning/flavor. It also looked a little dry as well. When we first sat down, it took 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Will give it another try, but didn’t enjoy this recent visit.

We really enjoyed this restaurant!! Hannah H was our server and really helped to make our experience amazing. The food was delicious and unique....we came back the next night!!

Our dining experience was fantastic! Our server, Andrea, was top notch and made us feel very special. The food was out of this world. The only niggling thing was it was one day before a new menu, so they were out of a few of their dishes. That being said, we will definitely be back when we’re in Temecula next time!

Not a good food experience last night. They ran out of Short Ribs by 6:30 pm which my wife was looking forward to eating. She doesn’t eat fish, so she ended up eating a burger which she rarely ever gets. Food options are too limited! My Cioppino was very good, and service was excellent, but expensive meal when 1/2 of it is a burger.

We loved the originality of the menu and the quality of the food. This is not your typical old town tavern style restaurant. Much attention to detail is paid on the preparation and presentation of the dishes. There are a wide variety of small plate choices which are great for sharing. We had gnocchi with butternut squash and roasted brussel sprouts, ahi tuna crudo, hamachi with a curry coconut broth, and baked feta. Entrees were a smaller selection but really nice offerings. We chose whole baked sea bass with a giant plate of greens for making lettuce wraps, and braised short rib with bok choy and wasabi mashed potatoes. Our only concern was the noise level inside. There was a very loud table of 6 seated next to us and we ended up moving outside, as did almost everyone else who was indoors. The patio is well appointed but the temp was a little chilly. They have heaters which do an adequate job. All in all we were very happy with small barn.

The manager was rude and dismissive. Specifically came back to this restaurant since we had a nice experience prior. Plenty of choices in the downtown where service is A+ and management makes an effort. Just because you’re wearing a suit doesn’t imply you should forget the basics of hospitality. Customers have a choice.

We came on Easter when it was pouring down rain and it was a lovely day sitting outside and hearing the rain. The food was excellent and our service was great. She was so patient with our party of 8 including two little ones. Thank you!!

Our server was great! The staff accommodated our increased group size (from 6 up to 9) with a smile and gave us a great table. This was a great birthday celebration for my husband!

Great atmosphere and wonderful staff. We were lucky to have had blankets in the car as it was a little chilly. The food was incredible! Definitely will be back.

Overpriced and underwhelming food. Service was great and the atmosphere is very nice. The food is average at best, the prices are inflated. $59 for 10z steak and fries, the steak was bland and not anywhere near the $59 price tag. I think people are more into the ambience than the food, I am not one of them.

My husband and I dined here last night and we each ordered the 10 ounce New York steak. It was tender and had very little fat, the steak was flavorful and was served with a sauce. Each steak was $54 and the steak was served with Pom Frites (french fries). We enjoyed an appetizer of brussels sprouts with pork belly. They were very delicious and the cost was $16. Between the two of us we enjoyed three cocktails which were $16 each. They were delicious. The waitress was attentive, and she was sweet. The service, however, was very slow based on it being a Wednesday night they had limited patrons. Therefore, I felt that the service should have been quicker. My husband ordered his second drink in the middle of his meal, but the drink did not come until both of us were finished with our meal. We did not order dessert. Based on the value of this meal, I will not be revisiting. The total of this meal all inclusive was approximately $184.

The gnocchi and harvest salad were great, although I wish the squash on the salad had been served warm. The short ribs were good and had great flavor, but the meat itself was just a tad bit dry and didn’t fall apart as well as other short ribs I had. Overall, the gnocchi was the best dish we tried.

Small Barn is a nice casual restaurant with a festive atmosphere. We had a little trouble finding the restaurant, even though we parked out front, because no where on the building is the name of the restaurant. Unless we missed it, not there. Service was friendly, drinks were ok, Brussel sprouts made the whole meal!!! They were amazing. Burger was ok, Salmon 4.3 out of 5. Overall we had a nice time celebrating our anniversary here. They brought us a nice desert on the house!! Very nice.
