Shun Lee has gone deeply downhill. The food less interesting and not as good as virtually any chinese take out place IN NYC. The noodles slimy, the lemon chicken a breaded chicken cutlet with sickly sweet sauce on the side. Wildly expensive, and with indifferent service, when our party gave a 15% tip, we were assaulted by a waited who said the tip was not enough. Wont return after 30 Years of going. Sad.

Food was amazing this was my second time visiting the restaurant and as I expected the food was delicious the service was excellent no long wait we drove from New Jersey . #1 for me 5 stars very clean and warm atmosphere

I’ve been coming to Shun Lee for more than 40 years. This was by far the poorest meal I’ve ever had. What used to be delicate dumplings were so doughy that I couldn’t chew the dough. The broccoli had no flavor, and the noodles with sesame paste were so heavily sauced that you could barely taste the noodles.

The restaurant was empty on a Friday night which should have been our first clue. The food was just average, but the prices were ridiculous- even for NYC. The worst part was the mouse we saw running through the restaurant, which of course we didn't notice until after we finished eating. YUK!

Have very good past memories of Shun Lee East and West. But my recent dinner at Shun Lee West on Sunday 5 May 2024 at after going to The Met Opera was disappointing. Waiter was literally surly and our food - chicken with nuts and beef with baby bok choy was tender but tasteless.

Horribly Expensive (a $20 glass of mediocre wine — are you kidding?!). In fact, pretty much a rip-off at their prices. Rushed service. Dishes grabbed two seconds after finishing. Beer bottle taken away still half full. Noise level over the top. Food ok, but no better than 50 other much less expensive Chinese places in NYC. No chance we would ever go back.

Haven’t been to Shun Lee for 8 years. Nothing has changed except for the very high prices. The decor is identically dark and frankly it smells old. The menu is straight forward but just very pricy. Food was good but not incredible

My elderly mother suffers from cognitive decline. So when she recalls that Shun Lee is delicious, it's a testament to her loss of brain function. We walked in to the same old place (emphasis on old) - never refurbished after many, many, many years. Old carpeting. Dusty dragon hanging from the ceiling with lit up red eyes. Very 1956. Surly waiters hardly paying attention. Soup and entrees served within about 3 minutes of each other - were they trying to get us out in under an hour? They succeeded. The hot and sour soup wasn't bad - but neither was it very good. Mom's "old-style" chicken chow mein was unrecognizable as such. My chow fun was neither chow nor fun. At least we didn't see the same mice we saw last time we came here. Other than folks with brain damage, and unsuspecting tourists, I am hard pressed to imagine why anyone would pay two to three times more than any average Chinese restaurant for food that isn't half as good as your neighborhood haunt. Really - close this place, already.

I read a lot of reviews before I made my reservation and was skeptical. Don't believe everything you read. The service was fine, the food was wonderful . We were a table of 6 and each one of us ordered something else, so we had plenty to choose from.There was nothing that wasn't delicious. The cod with ginger and scallions was particularly outstanding. I would return in a minute.

I was very disappointed in our experience this time. it was cool rather than hot, which distracted from the taste and my enjoyment of the food. I have been coming to Shun Lee occasionally for year but I wonder if there is a change in the kitchen management.

We have been to shun lee many times over the years. It has unfortunately gone way downhill. Had terrible very expensive Peking duck: overcooked, dry, sauce off in taste and fermented tasting, cucumbers and scallions skimpy and poorly prepared, pancakes too thick. All a disappointment. The whole place needs a serious lift.

Treated my mom to lunch before seeing Shen Yun nearby. We tried the soupy dumplings, shu mai, General Tsao's chicken, Ants Climb on Trees, and Heavenly Fish Filet... everything was delicious, the service was very courteous and the decor is stylish and welcoming.

The place was big but really needs some updates. The service was okay. The servers chatted loudly right by my table. The food had too much cornstarch and it was all slimy. The rice sizzling soup was not hot enough to sizzle. The broth was too thick with cornstarch.

I brought my husband to Shen Lee West for our "date night," prior to a show at LC. He has been wanting an authentic duck meal forever. I researched this restaurant prior to the date and made our reservations. First, I will say the food was excellent, although luke warm as opposed to hot, the service was okay, and the restaurant is lovely. However, it is way overpriced! Plus, the in-restaurant menu prices and the website menu prices are WAY different! On the website, the Bejing duck is listed as $35.00 for a half duck and a whole duck is $56.00. In the restaurant, not only do they NOT OFFER a half duck, but the cost for the whole duck is a whopping $128.00!! Every item on the restaurant menu is way over the website prices. I did not insist that they honor what is listed on their website for risk of repercussions - plus, we did not have time to go hunt for another restaurant because we were going to a show after dinner. At the end of the meal, the bill came to over $300.00 with the tip!! They need to revise their on-line menu or take it down altogether. That is false advertising.

The food was delicious and it came out hot Comfortable to eat. The atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed it was a very pleasant experience the staff was friendly and they made us feel welcome Definitely worth the trip from New Jersey We will come back again I think it’s one of the best restaurants in nyc for a date night. Love it

I made this reservation for my important client. They loved the restaurant long time ago and wanted to go back to it but they didn't know if they served Dim Sum so about a month in advance I called and confirmed they did have Dim Sum. I even downloaded the menu from the website that said they had it and when my clients got there not only the didn't offer Dim Sum but the place was empty and the ambience was terrible.

This long time Lincoln Center favorite has maintained the highest level of food and service over almost 50 years. I continue to love going there. They have kept old favorites on the menu while updating with new items. All very good.

Singapore Curry Noodles were totally lacking in flavor. Once upon a time , they were a umami bomb. $22 for green beans!?! Are you kidding me? Noodles and beans totaled $43 , plus $7 (!) for a pot of tea. Sad. This used to be a great go-to.

Pleasant old fashioned mock chinese-ish decor. Food was ok in a bland way. Prices were obscenely high..

The entrance area smelled terrible, like dirty moldy water was used to mop the floor. The hostesses were surly and rude. The waiters could not be bothered to take our order until we flagged someone down. The food was delivered quickly but was poorly cooked and tasted bland or overly salty. All in all a bad experience and a huge fall from grace for a venerable institution.
