Modern Cafe Culture in the heart of Chester.
Whether it's a coffee in the morning, a light lunch on the terrace with a glass of wine from our eclectic selection, to an intimate dinner for two in the restaurant, we aim to offer something for everyone at every time of the day.
If you're not hungry join us for drinks in our bar area where you can sample some of our delicious in house cocktails.

Shrub delivers both excellence in service and food, time after time. We have never had a bad experience there and the new additions to the menu, particularly the roasted cabbage with gochujang sauce was spectacular. I can recommend Shrub to all dners, if you're worried because it's plant based don't be, this is amazing food for everyone. 10/10

Great for vegetarians. Wide choice of vegetable dishes. I would recommend 2 starters and five from the main dishes and that is great for two people .

We had 7 of the dishes between 2 of us and all were packed with flavour and interest, the onion bhaji were exceptional. The staff were awesome throughout and gave us a great recommendation for a wine bar to head to after

I'm pretty sure this was the best meal I've ever had. The restaurant is lovely, staff were exceptional and the food was out of this world. I'd I didn't live a few hundred miles away this would now be my go to restaurant. We got 5 small plates to share between 2 and it was the perfect amount. Everything was divine, particularly the tofu. Cocktails were fantastic and the desserts - creme brulee and the chocolate mint cheese cake were perfect. I cannot fault Shrub at all and I will be back to Chester just to come again. Big kudos to all involved here. Even my meat eating husband was blown away by the food, agreeing it was one of the best places we have ever eaten.

We've had an excellent experience on several visits. I only wish a stock of bottled real ales was available, and that the background music was a bit quieter at times.

Fantastic lunch out at Shrub with my mom and daughter. We ordered a mixture of things off the Mezze and Small Plate menus, all of which were absolutely delicious. We also managed a couple of the desserts. Everything came well presented and the flavours matched the expectation given from seeing the dishes. The staff were all friendly and attentive without being too much, and the ambience was great. Chester is a bit of a jaunt for us just for lunch, but as soon as we are up that way again - we will definitely be back to sample more of the menu.

Shrub is always 10/10- amazing food choices, menu is great, drinks choices are varied, and the ambience is lovely. Happy and friendly staff and prices reasonable! You can’t fault Shrub - the food is so flavoursome and tasty!

Superb experience. Lovely venue and location, fantastic varied food and drinks menu, lots to tempt veggies, vegans and meat eaters alike. Vegan Yorkies?! Yum. Tim attended to us brilliantly, confirmed a dish to make it smaller and more to the taste of our 5 year old. Well priced we think, given the quality of the fare on offer. Definitely returning next time we're in Chester.

Shrub never EVER fails to disappoint. I brought my veggie/vegan friend with me and we thought everything was BEAUTIFUL. The food was awesome, the service was top notch and the vibe was chilled and lovely! Thank you!!

Dined at Shrub for two on a evening. The place was very quite but it was a Sunday. The service was very good, never left waiting around. And the food was excellent. Especially the Teryaki Tofu and the 'lamb' ragu. Also the Cocktails on offer are a great selection that are well put together.

Amazing as always🩷 Had to downsize our reservation from 6 to 4, unfortunately one of our party fell ill. Explained upon arrival and as we were leaving, one of the lovely staff members presented us with a takeaway box with a roast inside for the poorly party member 🩷🩷🩷would most definitely recommend Shrub to all, not just vegans!!!

Our favourite vegan spot in Chester. I guess because it was Mothering Sunday it wasn’t its usual best. Starters came out with mains which was not what we’d asked for. The mains were a bit soggy as if they’d been dished up a while. It was still nice but not up to their usual standards. I also felt it was all a bit rushed, no flowers on the table all in all a bit flat which was sad as it was a treat for me from my daughter.

Quality of everything, from food to service, was amazing. Staff have incredible etiquette and brilliant attention to detail. The team were very accommodating on a busy weekend. Our server, a lovely blonde girl, was so lovely to me and the other guests. Lovely celebration of first Mother’s Day!! Thank you again to everyone

We visited on a Sunday and all had the roast, it was delicious! I don’t think we’ve ever had a bad visit. Atmosphere is always great, Sundays was no exception, music sets a great vibe. We would have tea here every night if we could. Thanks to the great team at Shrub for always delivering a great experience.

Amazing food. Sophie our waitress was lovely and friendly. Great atmosphere. Would definitely come again if we are in Chester. Have recommended to family and friends who are visiting.

Husband and I had the Sunday mushroom Wellington roast, with extra roasties and extra gravy - totally delicious and good portion size (even without the extras) - woukd have licked the plate clean if we'd been at home 😁 Living proof that plant based food really is amazing!

This is my favourite place to come to when I visit Chester. The vibes are immaculate, staff are all lovely people and make you feel super welcomed and let’s not forget the food.. DAYM, unreal. I’m still thinking about my cookie dough blondie. See ya soon!

It was delicious, packed full of flavour and perfectly balanced. I can't rate this restaurant highly enough, and we will definitely be back. Not only was the food spot on but the vibe was nice and chilled and it was cool to sit outside on the Chester Rows in February. Next time you're in Chester make sure you check it out.
