When we first opened our doors at 1983, the Sawatdee mission was simple: to take our community on an adventure full of Thai flavors and good times. Many years later, that adventure is still as exciting as ever.

Sawatdee Saint Paul was the first Sawatdee which opened in 1983. Located in lowertown, it has been referred to as & the old Sawatdee" since it closed to make way for the new. With a new location on Robert Street in downtown Saint Paul, & the old Sawatdee & is now & the new Sawatdee; offering you a full menu of authentic Thai cuisine that we are famous for plus a full bar.

My wife and I enjoyed dinner before heading to the Fitzgerald Theater. Great food and flavors. Our waiter Jool was a jewel!

Average food although options appeared great in the menu, below average ambience and not any close to the pics on the website, was pretty hot and made me sweat after 20 mins in, service was pretty fast and possibly had a total of 8 guests, serving sauce in to go plastic cups etc

Always love dining at this location (St. Paul). The food is delicious! The staff is amazing- friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Street parking- but we never seem to have an issue finding a spot. A gem.

The food is amazing and the flavors of the sauces in all their dishes are spot on. The appetizer platter (2 wantons, 1 egg roll & 2 sarongs), 2 entrees, a dessert and 2 glasses of wine special for $48 per couple can't be beat. The service is always mediocre. Tonight the hostess called in sick so they had 1 bar tender & 2 servers. While it seemed slow, we weren't in any rush and we were in and out on Valentine's Day in 75 Minutes which I would say is very fast. Tonight the service was par for the course and has never been stellar but the food is great, prices are great and it is in a great location with easy parking. Our server was lovely, joked, apologized for delay in getting us our water/ordering and was very accommodating. Of all the Sawatdee restaurants this is the only one we eat at because of the friendly staff, quality of food, easy of parking and quiet space.

Enjoyed our VCalentine Dinner at Sawatdi. Food was delicious. Was understaffed for the volume of guests. The server was swamped but very pleasant to her customers. Dining room could use some enhancements if it is trying to compete on basis of ambiance.

Our dining experience was great ! I had people with me who love Thai food and they were very pleased with the menu choices and the delicious entrées ! The service was excellent !

The food was delicious. The server great. Our order fell to the floor and we waited, waited, and waited for our food and finally asked why so long. They found the order on the floor and the kitchen had not seen it. We ordered appetizers during their happy hour and they charged us the full price. I would go back for the food, but would make sure they charged correctly on the bill.

Food and service were both outstanding. High points were the Paradise chicken wings, egg rolls, tom yum soup and Pad Thai. Wishing we'd had time to have dessert because we know their sticky rice w/mango is amazing.

Although the food was very good, the service was very poor. We ended up waiting for a full hour for our food, which was unacceptable. Our server failed to check in with us and the kitchen to find out what the issue was, and I needed to flag down people twice to try to get someone to check. I ended up requesting a to-go box when I finally received it as we need to leave in order to make it to a show at the history theatre. Very disappointing.

They ask for reservations to manage service we assumed after visiting. We enjoyed a casual, yummy dinner. Pad Thai, fair-famous egg rolls, massamon curry, and the waiter recommended panaag. The main room was filled before we left and while they have other room for service, a group of walk-ins had to eat at the bar. Our server was attentive and helpful. Would go back on our next visit.

We were seated at 5:15, the time of our reservation. We then proceeded to sit there for 15 minutes, and no one came to check on us. Another group came in, was checked on, got drinks… so we left. We were thanked for coming in on our way out.

Server never brought out main course. We got appetizers, but not my ordered main course. After complaining it eventually showed up, which I took home since we were done and ready to leave! Extremely poor service!

Sign outside said they were short staffed, but we barely noticed. Wait staff efficient and did not act harried or annoyed at all. Food was EXCELLENT, delicious. The restaurant overall looks a little shabby but the food made up for it-

My main dish order was made wrong - twice. I ordered a lemongrass pad thai with beef; no onions or carrots. The first time it was made with everything. The second time it was made with chicken. Server was nice however didn’t get my order right.

The food was wonderful, service was terrible. They were very clearly short handed. To spend over $100 for dinner and have terrible service was frustrating. The food was excellent, they need to get their act together. I may return, but not because of the service, it was very disappointing.

Pretty run down place. Service was actually quite poor. Took forever for waitress to come over. She was pleasant but just not paying attention. Example; Appetizer comes (finally) and we don't have any silverware or napkins. I ask if we could get some and she politely says sure. Then wanders away, walking right past where they keep silverware and napkins so I had to go the service area and ask someone else. I like other Sawatdees, but this one I'll not return to.

I thought the fresh spring rolls had changed. The service was excellent, especially given that they were probably short staffed. The ambience is lacking.

Pre- theatre dinner. Spring rolls were good. Coconut shrimp and calamari were way over cooked. Waitresses comment was that people like different things- no apology or inquiry. Hard to get her to come back to table even for the check. Won’t be back.

Very good food and service for our table of four on a Sunday night. Our appetizers and entrees were all excellent, and the spice levels were as requested. The service was pleasant and attentive. Our downside was the restaurant seemed a little chilly.

Curry was really poor quality, watery and beef was tasteless. They took off 1/2 price so we decided we’d take it home and let it marinate and see if it was better the next day…nope. Spicy noodles were salty for main flavor. Waiter was new and very nice. We won’t return.

I haven’t been to Sawatdee for a year or so, and each time I feel the good quality is going down. I had the spinach with peanut curry sauce and it was not great. The spinach was only partially cooked and tasted stringy, like eating spaghetti because it had all the long stems which were not cooked. The shrimp was ok, and the sauce really was lacking flavor. Nota lot of peanut flavor coming through, and some rather lumpy tomatoe-y sauce? Sad as I love Thai food and wish this was a solid option for more often. No one else in our party of 6 was loving their food either, so all around it was disappointing.

The hostess that seated us was not very friendly or welcoming. Our waiter was outstanding, had great suggestions and was very attentive. The food was ok. The restaurant and their restroom could use a deep clean.

We ordered a relatively basic order. But the food was done incredibly quick. We were able to be in and out in about 35 minutes because we devoured our food. Overall satisfied with service and food. Would recommend
