Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. Please note that patio seating is weather contingent.

The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.

Service was great. Food was over salted. I actually tried 3 dishes and they weren’t great. Rigatoni, Lasagna and a chicken pasta. The latter, chicken tasted as it had been frozen and had fake grill marks. Sysco Truck. I’ll give them another shot as maybe it was a bad batch. Atmosphere is amazing, staff was great but didn’t realize that I didn’t enjoy the meal as we only took a few bites then didn’t finish.

Great ambience and service. Fun combinations on entrees and drinks. Our food was pretty good, meatballs and their unique twist of Caesar salad was best part of our meal. Prices a little high but overall very pleased

I had heard wonderful things about Sammies and went there with great exceptions. Sammies lived up to and exceeded those high expectations with excellent service, a fantastic atmosphere, and the food was simply delicious. Brianne took great care of us, helped navigate the extensive wine list to amazing selections, and never made us feel rushed. Our entire group was thrilled with the experience and we look forward to going back sometime soon!

It was incredibly loud but the food was plentiful and delicious! Would have liked more affordable wine options but that seems to be the cost of going out.

Food arrived quickly but one of our 4 entrees was incorrect. Not only was it incorrect but not to our liking. By the time the correct entree was received, all others had finished their meals. To rectify the situation, our waiter offered us 1 free dessert.

Food, wine, and service were superb. Our table was on the covered patio, which was very pleasant after our waiter turned the music down a bit.

Very vibrant atmosphere definitely not for intimate quiet conversations. But a fun and delicious experience. Pasta is the main event and lasagna was our favorite. Plenty of meat and used bolognese sauce for that extra flavor.

Chicken Picatta was not good. Food seemed heavy and hit or miss. Everyone had stomach aches and nausea afterwards.

The staff is wonderful. Service is perfect. Food was amazing. The ONLY thing I don’t like is their choice of music. It’s too loud and the only music that needs to be played in an Italian restaurant is Dean, Frank, and any other Rat pack or Italian singers

A truly wonderful experience. All the food was delicious and you can taste how fresh it is. The gnocchi is soft and pillowy and the tiramisu was the best I have ever had. They have a wonderful selection of both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks as well. It was the perfect spot for a nice date night.

This was our first time at Sammie's and OMG the food was so damn good!! The staff here also were on a whole other level compared to other service in town. The attention to detail on all the table sets, the food, and even the garnish on our drinks were all well thought of. Even got this amazing hand written note on our table for our anniversary and every employee made sure to say happy anniversary if they came to our table for anything.

Service was great! It’s VERY loud in the restaurant itself, ear piercing sometimes. The bread is nice to start, which it came with dipping oil. Started with the apple and pear salad. My husband claimed it was too salty but maybe it was the ton of Parmesan they added. My Cacio e Pepe came out slightly warmer than room temperature, so I asked them to reheat it. They promptly made a fresh one and it was tasty! My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was good but a tad soggy. It’s very thick which I wasn’t used to, but the side spaghetti was amazing and probably the best part of the meal. It was an expensive nice treat, but we will probably stick to better Italian food elsewhere.

I took my parents here when they were in town and we were all absolutely blown away by how fabulous the food was. The meatballs were to die for, and the Caesar salads were amazing! We each got a different pasta dish and ate every last bite. I highly recommend the vodka pasta! Finally for dessert we got the cheesecake and chocolate torte. Highly recommend! Great food and even better service.

While the food at Sammie’s was pretty good, it was not at all worth the price. The appetizers were totally worth it but not so much the entrees. It was overall a pretty good experience but I can get better food for the same price or cheaper elsewhere

Service, hostess and our server so warm and welcoming. The location is clean and has an old school cozy vibe. We sat in a booth and had a little window to look out at the river. Drinks were great. They start you off with delicious focaccia and breadsticks on the house. Had mozzarella sticks, lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs to eat family style. Mozzarella sticks were great and taste homemade. Lasagna is enough for 4 and delicious! Meatballs were a tad salty for my taste, but not bad. Would definitely come back. Thanks Sammies!

This was our first time at Sammie’s. We were a party of four with a 5 o’clock reservation. We were seated immediately. Our server, Jenny, greeted us warmly, and took drink orders. Nice selection of cocktails; really enjoyed Sammie’s Martini and Sammie’s Manhattan. We had the meatballs, mozzarella sticks, and a Caesar salad as appetizers. All were delicious and very shareable. For entrées we had the cheese ravioli in a Bolognese sauce, chicken Parmigiana, and veal Parmigiana. The portions of the veal Parmesan and chicken Parmesan were huge! All three dishes were delicious. Sammie’s has an extensive wine list and wines by the glass. Both couples shared desserts, the Panna cotta was exceptional. Service was great with Jenny checking on us regularly. Wonderful evening!
