Salt + Stone is the first independent restaurant from restaurateurs Sean and Sue Olson. The couple has over 40 years in the restaurant and hospitality industry working with major restaurants brands, independent catering companies, and fresh seafood and meat markets. Based on years of traveling, knowledge of sourcing, and family recipes, Salt + Stone brings the best ingredients and preparation to the plate in a casual, modern atmosphere.

Located in the heart of Assembly Row (Somerville, MA) minutes from downtown Boston, the restaurant boasts a vibrant atmosphere with floor to ceiling windows, two extensive bars, a raw bar, private small dining area, and outdoor covered patio pavilion that is heated and dog friendly with full-service.

Service was not good yet the restaurant was pretty much empty. Everyone was pleased with their meals apart from the lobster rolls and the gross coleslaw that came with it. The lobster roll was dry and had many shells in it. The coleslaw smelled really fowl. It’s a joke that this restaurant requires a deposit. The food came out before our drinks. One of the people in our party asked to try the rose and the server took forever to follow up on whether they liked it and wanted a full glass. Everyone nearly finished their drinks by the time we had to go to the bar to order a full glass of rose for that person in our party. The manager did not have their finger on the pulse on the restaurant and operation. It was a $400 meal including the 20% tip that automatically gets charged on the bills. Maybe the manager and servers just expect a 20% tip nowadays even if the experience is below subpar?

Spent some time on Friday night with my family. The food was amazing! Everyone of our dishes was perfection! My 13 year old got the Salt and stone burger she loved it! Shrimp Fettuccini was so good! Services was great. We sat outside in the covered area very nice, heated!

Sat outside in late April - the outdoor seating is awesome! It’s not cold but the heat lamps are not like being on the sun either. The lights are a nice touch. Food and service (Jordan) was fantastic. It’s loud but it was Friday night and to be expected.

Great spot!! Highly recommend. Service was friendly and adequate. Menu was varied and food was outstanding. Cocktail list was creative and fun. We will be back.

I asked for a quieter table, and we were seated in a more remote part of the restaurant which was very good to get. The noise level is at least moderate given the large number of patrons who come to eat. We arrived by 5 for our reservation, and when we left the restaurant was full. The drinks were perfectly made to our liking, and all the food items were very delicious. Our server was very accommodating and friendly and served everything in with a lovely manner.

I am gluten free and go out a fair amount. This restaurant could have made some minor modifications to be more gluten friendly but it is not. Also the restaurant is very loud, like leaning over and saying "what did you say" to the person directly across the table kind of loud. None of us were blown away by what we ordered.

Hi Fran, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you were not happy with our gluten friendly options. We do have several gluten free appetizers, (shrimp cocktail, tuna tar tar, Deviled Eggs, Mediterranean platter and meat and Cheese board and Raw bar. For entrees we have fresh New Bedford Scallops, Halibut, Salmon (both of which can be served with Mango/pineapple salsa. Chicken with mango/pineapple Salsa, and Hanger Steak. We have several entree salads which can be topped with steak, chicken, shrimp or rare tuna. We offer gluten free rolls and bread for all sandwiches and burgers. And to top it off we have a gluten free cheesecake for dessert! We do hope you'll be back to give some of these items a try.

Went at dinner time and was seater at venter of dining room where wait staff congregated and 'waits' for their plates to deliver so lots of hustle busses chatter and cold door to outside winter seating. Buratta app was perfect, potion was great. Salads were fresh but chicken was premarinated, thin and dry. Service was excellent. Drinks were small and way over priced.

With slow service, we shouldn’t be rushed out of our table before we can even bite into dessert or sip after dinner drinks and coffee “because you have another reservation coming in.” Unacceptable for the money spent for 6 ppl with drinks apps dinner and dessert. Won’t be back.

When booking with opentable it tells you the time limit for the reservation when booking which in this case for 6 people is 2 hours. On a busy Friday evening you should expect reservations times have to be honored as we were fully booked the entire evening. On slower nights we would be more than happy to extend your reservation times. We actually let you stay 30 minutes past your reservation time and bought the table after you appetizers to apologize for the wait. Regarding "slow service" you were seated at 5:10 and the server was over to you withing two minutes as the check was started at 5:12 sorry that was not quick enough for you.

Came for my son’s 21!birthday celebration. The vibe was a lot more casual that I expected, but the staff was nice and the food wasn’t bad. The sesame seed encrusted ahi tuna was delicious, but the seared scallops were disappointing. Enjoyed the Cherry Blossom cocktail. I fully expected a small birthday surprise (after all, they did ask what the occasion was), but nada. I might come back. Haven’t decided.

Way too loud, even at a half empty brunch. Eggs requested over easy, but arrived sunny side up. Meal was cold. Tater tots - maybe from a frozen package? Other guests had the French Toast which was a big hit. Server was lovely, but never offered more coffee, seemed new maybe. I would probably still recommend as even though not cooked correctly, the food was ok for the money.

There were a couple of mistakes with wrong items being brought to the table by a kitchen runner, but our waitress was quick to correct the mistakes when brought to her attention. Everything else was great!

Hi Anthony, We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your meal at Salt + Stone. Busy restaurants can be loud at times. We are in the process of adding some sound baffles to help with noise. We do hope you will come back and give us another try. Our heated outdoor pavilion is also an option. It tends to be a little quieter. In the summer the pavilion sides will be rolled up to enjoy the nice weather.

My first impression of Salt + Stone occurred even before we sat down to eat; it was during the reservation process. The night before our reservation I found out I needed to add one more person. The person who took the call say they were packed that night and it would be tough to do and did so but with the proviso we would have to be out within 90 minutes. I was fine with that given we had tickets in Boston that night and understood since it was a last-minute change. Within 30 minutes of getting off the call, that same person called saying she was able to move a bunch of stuff around and that she made room for our party and wouldn't have to leave after 90 minutes. She went out of her way to help us out there when we were already satisfied! The restaurant is spacious and chic and parking was easy to find in a nearby garage which did not charge if you left within 3 hours (where do you find free paring anywhere these days?). Our server was top notch and was attentive without being on top of us. Our drinks were replenished quickly and our food came our quickly. We all finished our dishes -- they were excellent! We will definitely be back!

Food prices have not changed much since their rise during the pandemic. We keep our prices in line with comparable restaurants in the area and serve only the freshest ingredients for our chef inspired menu. We do hope you will come back to try some out our newly added dishes for Brunch, Lunch or Dinner.

There are many restaurants in the Assembly Square area. This time I decided to try one that I had not tried. Salt and Stone is a very nice place, with a creative and interesting menu. The prices are a tad high but its worth checking out.

The lobster ravioli and the apple crumble were the highlight of the dinner! A little noisy, but service was great, and the wine, cocktail, and beer selections were perfect.

Our server was fantastic, early lunch worked out so we could hear ourselves speaking. Recommend for meeting friends and dinner before an event like theater or movie night.

The brunch was great! Food and drinks were spot on. Highly recommend the huevos rancheros!! Only downside was a rude and inattentive server.

The place was so loud and the table was tiny. We could not fit 2 appetizers, wine and water on the table. Didn’t bother to order dinner. The food was, wish I had space to eat it
