Went for a business lunch meeting, you could taste the quality of the fish. It was fresh and delicious. The miso was good, and the soy they use is the best I've had in Boston. They've added some items to the lunch menu from the dinner menu, which is great as it adds to the variety and allows you to share items. Will be back.

Review: Sakabayashi Sushi Tavern Visit on Sunday, 5/26/2024 at 11:30 AM My visit to Sakabayashi Sushi Tavern on Sunday, May 26th, 2024, was highly disappointing. Despite the decent food, the service was so poor that I cannot recommend this restaurant. The primary server seemed improperly trained, more interested in chatting or attending to other tasks than serving us. We had to repeatedly seek help from other servers. When ordering, there was no proper explanation of the menu. My child did not want sushi or sushi rice, so we ordered a side of plain white rice. Instead, we received marinated sushi rice, and only later were told that all rice is prepared this way, which we should have known upfront. The sequence of our food was chaotic. First, one appetizer arrived. Shortly after, my wife’s sushi and tempura set came out. By the time she was a third through her meal, my ramen and sushi set finally arrived. This staggering of dishes is unacceptable; even though this isn't a fine dining establishment, I expect our meals to be served at roughly the same time. To add to the confusion, another appetizer arrived when we were halfway through our meal, even though it had been ordered with everything else. Throughout our meal, servers frequently interrupted to remove empty plates, despite there being ample space on our table. This disruption was unnecessary and annoying, especially since no new food was coming out. The final straw was when our server dropped a chopstick on my wife's clothing, causing a soy sauce stain. If servers cannot manage to carry items without dropping them, they should do so in smaller batches. Overall, this visit was a very unpleasant experience. While the food itself was decent, the service was so poor that it overshadowed any enjoyment we might have had from the meal. I cannot in good conscience recommend Sakabayashi Sushi Tavern and, unfortunately, cannot even award it a single star due to the dreadful service. We will not be returning.

The sushi was outstanding. Everything we ordered was delicious, and my daughter especially loved their California roll and Karaage! We’ll definitely be going back there again soon!

Excellent first time experience! We loved the edamame seasoning and the sushi was so fresh.

We went for lunch on Mother’s Day after reviewing their website and extensive menu. The greeting was wonderful by the whole team. It plummeted from there. Out of their extensive menu THE ONLY aspect of the menu they offer is the “lunch menu” during the day… Now before you rush to judgment, please peruse their menu….. their “lunch menu” is tiny, and one of I think 5 menus they offer (cold dishes, hot dishes, quick apps, lunch menu, drinks). At lunch, you can not order any maki rolls (!!). At lunch they said they can’t do anything hot, so when I asked if they could make their wasabi caprese from their “quick apps” menu, which sounded fun, nope they couldn’t do that, either…. It’s disappointing that a place with so much potential isn’t trying to meet basic needs of the consumer. We ended up at Basho later in the day and it was WONDERFUL!

Hopefully will improve but needs better service and food presentation to make it a place worth going back to.

This was the worst sushi I have ever had. The fish was stale ; the worst quality fish I have ever had. Half of what we ordered was inedible. The sushi bar is a joke! There are very small pieces of fish scrap that they find from grocery store. My daughter had hours of stomach pain after eating there. Buy grocery store sushi instead of going to this restaurant.

I really loved the restaurant and the food. I wish they had a larger size of the Sapporo beer. The sushi rice was a bit too wet, but the sashimi was fresh. The grapefruit drink was stunning. it's really like in Japan!! I'll come back to try more food next time!! Thank you
