Our Story The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022. Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous. Excellent food. Took over 15 minutes for someone to come to the table to take drink order. After that service very good. I will definitely good back since the food was great. I am not coming to this place

This place is truly my favorite place in Astoria. The food? Amazing. The drinks? Delicious. Everyone is so nice. I never write reviews but I truly cant say enough about this place. Go here

Drinks are so good and food is delicious! All staff from hostess to servers were so helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend for an easy , solid meal!

I’ve been to Ruta multiple times. It is always a great atmosphere. Service is excellent with friendly staff. Food is amazing! We both had different types of enchiladas, the nachos and a pitcher of sangria. It was excellent with so much flavor. It was my friends first time trying the restaurant and she loved it.

inventive tequila/mezcal cocktails, delicious hearty tacos -- I liked that you can mix and match an order of 3 tacos, which not every Mexican restaurant allows.

The drinks were excellent. Food was good: ceviche was tasty; the shorts ribs was a little overdone; and my grilled fish was a standout. Staff was friendly but service was slow, mainly because it was a very busy and crowded Saturday night. We had to wait for water, to order, our entrees, to get a check, etc. It's a very lively atmosphere so great place for a night out, parties, and groups but not ideal for my partner and me who wanted to try out the food that everyone was raving about. Between the crowds and the music, it was loud, forcing us to shout what we were saying to be able to hear each other. What also impacted our experience was that it was a cold rainy night and we were seated at a table right by the door, so we were freezing from the gusts of wind every time people entered and exited. We also were constantly jostled by the groups of people waiting by the host station which was annoying. The restaurant shouldn't have had a table there. While Ruta Oaxaca has a lot of positives and some of our issues had nothing to do with the restaurant, it's not so spectacular for us to go back given that we have so many other amazing Mexican options closer to us, better food, and that are more up our alley in terms of a dining experience.

I’ve been here many times and the service and food quality has been consistent every time! I told my dad to try the Huatulco Enchiladas and he said they were amazing. I finally tried something other than those myself and I thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp Alambre Chilangos! The drinks are always on point and they have a very nice mezcal selection. Ruta Oaxaca never disappoints!
