The Royal Oak is a charming 19th century pub in the village of River near Dover in Kent. Formed from 18th century flint cottages we have been serving the village for over 150 years. A friendly warm welcome compliments our range of real ales, lagers, ciders and stout. From a morning coffee or hot chocolate to a late night spirit we will look after you. Come read the papers, enjoy a cool beer on a sunny afternoon in the garden or a warming cask ale in front of the fire on a winter's night. Whatever you prefer we hope to see you soon.

Had a delicious roast dinner with all the trimmings, the staff were very friendly and efficient. The Royal Oak is a lovely little pub would definitely recommend either for dinner or just coming for a few drinks.

The pub was surprisingly busy for a Thursday evening and to start with there was only one server who was having to manage the bar as well. Understandably service was slow, until help arrived for her. It is good to know that the last pub in the village is thriving and we shall go back there.

First time eating here. Was not disappointed. Food was amazing. Probably the best beef I’ve ever had. It was Christmas menu so no pork. I will go back in the new year and try the pork. I’m excited.

Lovely pub, great food. Brilliant service. Went to visit the castle and popped in here for lunch afterwards. Really lovely atmosphere. Staff were friendly and food was fab.

Unfortunately one of our meals was incorrect, chicken left out of the chicken fajitas. Apologies were made but the food was left on the table whilst the chicken was cooked so went cold. Howevervthebrestbif the party really enjoyedctheir meals

The drinks and food were lovely. One of the meals was cooked too much but was ok. The waitress was a bit grumpy and abrupr. Came across rude at times. Everything else was lovely

Easy to book on line. Very friendly welcome. We choose eat in the garden which was no trouble at all. Although the pub was busy the service was fantastic. The food was fab too, plenty of it and great value for money. Will definitely be going back.

After completing the online booking and arriving at the allotted time we were told the kitchen was closed. We were not offered any alternative so had to order from a takeaway delivery service.

Top marks for the desert was the best part of the meal, with the Belgian waffles, Regarding the main meal the fish and chips, the fish was acceptable and I have tasted much better but this one was okay, the big disappointment was at the end of the meal and drinks, my sister asked for a glass of water, which was ignored, and after checking, the receipt a Schweppes was is given instead, presumably because that is chargeable, whereby a glass of water from the tap may not have been, which she requested , if we had not been let down by this unfortunate occurrence, then five stars would have been given

The first time we went to the Royal Oak the food was lovely and of food quality. The spring rolls were very authentic as were the fish cakes. This time they were different, clearly shop bought and tasted bad. The mains were also tasteless and veg was cold. Very sad to say we won’t be back, as we thought we had found a real gem.

Can only comment on Sunday lunch - disappointed that the website menu was not correct but what we did have was well cooked and copious - Good value at least at to-days general prices

Highly recommended best Sunday lunch we've had eating out in a long time. My husband had beef there was plenty of it. I had nut roast which was delicious, good selection of vegetables. Delicious puddings.

The food was themed with Thai night (Saturday night) which was absolutely delicious. It was a busy night in the Royal Oak with groups of regulars, as well as a new Karaoke night, however not too loud that you couldn't speak. Wonderful evening at a local pub.

Food was excellent. Good portion size, reasonable price and service was quick. We had the Grab and Go breakfast as we had an early ferry. Very good portion size for breakfast pack. Excellent customer service.

Lovely spot, with an authentic British Pub feel about it. The menu is what one would expect, but the food was delicious and clearly home cooking at it's best. The service was top class, friendly and quick. We had a great dinner.

The experience is let down as a result of the older lady with no customer service ability. We would not return because of this. Friends have encountered the same frosty service and pre-warned us advising that they too have chosen not to return despite living in the village.

We had a lovely meal at the Royal Oak. Nice home cooked food, would definitely book again. Weather was nice, the garden is a gorgeous sun trap. Also secure so perfect for my toddler - he could run around without worrying about him running off.

Über einem Pub zu dchlafen in einem uralten Gebäude ist schon grandios. Es gab an dem Abend Live Musik. Dir Atmosphäre ist wie im Wohnzimmer.

My husband ordered the burger which was raw inside and gave him a bad stomach and it took ages for me to get served at the bar as they seemed to favor the regulars that came in and I was looked at times and completely ignored

We booked a table for Sunday lunch for 4 pm. We ordered drinks and then was informed we only have gammon left on the Sunday lunch menu but we have the normal menu for you to choose from. It would have been nice when we arrived to be told that most of the Sunday lunch menu was sold out. We are pensioners and our monthly treat is Sunday lunch out. Very disappointed we drunk up and left. Will not be returning.
