Roka Akor brings an innovative combination of contemporary Robata Japanese cuisine and stunning design to six locations across the U.S., including Scottsdale, San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Skokie, and Oak Brook, IL.
Roka Akor’s principle Robata Japanese cuisine is prepared on a twelve-foot robata grill that uses mesquite charcoal and almond wood with flames that can raise temperatures up to 1,900 degrees. The restaurant’s name is derived from two words: RO and KA. The meaning of the first word is hearth, a gathering place where people socialize and take in the ambience; the latter stands for a burning fire and projecting energy. In alignment with the restaurant’s name, Roka Akor’s design features a centrally located robata grill that provides the heart of the visual experience, surrounded by rich wood décor and sleek lighting. Guests are encouraged to speak with the chefs about the food to create an interactive and engaging dining experience.

Horrible, service very bad and food even worse. Dumplings and sprouts good but cod and sea bass both horrible. Cod overcooked and the sauce made it worse. Sea bass cold and undercooked in banana leaf. Both small and no sides for $40 plus fish. Server never come once to check on food or drinks until we wanted to get out. Complained about the food and she just walked away. They should be required to get the manager. Skip this place and hit the other 12 good restaurants in the mall. On the way out I shared my experience with another customer and they said the warm food is horrible but the sushi is good. Bummer I didn’t know but not coming back!

Recommend but be aware it will be costly. Service was outstanding. Ambiance good. The food was outstanding. I knew the $$$ but they could have done better with serving size on a few items. My tuna tataki was very good but needed more of the main event to seem worth the cost. However, it was a delicious meal. We paid $135 inclusive of wine, tax, & tip. We had no hot main courses (we shared 2 cold plates, shared 2 rolls, 2 glasses of wine total). Expect well above that cost if you jump into their signature dinners and add sides. The other couple we were with had similar meals and cost.

Our waitress was fantastic and very accommodating for my friend who is gluten free. She went through the menu and marked off what my friend couldn’t eat and what could be modified. The guys ordered omakase and the waitress came by and made sure my friend knew the sauce on one of the items contained gluten. The rest of the food and drinks were amazing!

I met a girlfriend there for dinner and the music and ambiance was good but the food was some of the blandest, overpriced food I’ve ever had at a restaurant. 2 sushi rolls and a steak (to go) with a glass of wine cost me over $100. The rolls had no flavor and the 8 oz skirt steak I got to go came with no sides and also had no flavor. Where are all of the seasonings and sides?? I maybe would go back for drinks in the future but that is it.
