Rojo Maple Grove was just, meh. Not sure if it's a new restaurant or not, but they have a ways go to go get to Southdale and West End quality & vibe. Service was somewhat inattentive. We were there for 2.5, maybe 3 hours and not once were our water glasses refilled. Not once. Trying to flag down a server was almost impossible as it appears they are short staffed and they were all busy bussing each other's tables - perhaps to split right at 9pm when they close...on a Saturday? The food was OK. It wasn't great, it was OK. There wasn't a lot of flavor in the chicken tacos and the "Cadillac Margarita" was a waste of $12.50. Which brings me to another point about ROJO in general - you're a Mexican Restaurant. Regardless which Rojo I go to, the margaritas always taste like dirty dishwater. You'd think a Mexican restaurant, of all restaurants, would have a decent margarita...especially for $12.50. OpenTable says a lot of noise is, "energetic." Not on this night . All of the unnecessary noise was coming from the kitchen. Including the manager berating a server for all of us to hear. For a minute I thought I was on the set of one of those Gordon Ramsey Horror Shows. Additionally, there is inexplicably a "work table" right in the middle of the dining room where servers and managers congregate, wrap silverware, set dish buckets and other random restaurant equipment and dirty dishes on. What is up with that? I don't need to see the cleaning buckets nor the joy on the manager's face (that was sarcasm, dear reader) as he's wrapping what is probably his 300th role of silverware for the evening. Like I said, maybe it's a new restaurant/location, but there's a LOT of work to do up in Maple Grove, dearest Rojo.

Thanks to Open Table we were seated immediately. It did take a hot minute (or two) for anyone to come to our table which was ok because it gave us a chance to review the menu. My husband was a bit disappointed with the lack of menu choices. Most “Mexican” restaurant menus are so huge..this one isn’t which I’m sure is intentional. The food was good, not GREAT. I had the Carnitas which were good and smoky. I liked the smooth beans and rice. Husband thought the rice was a bit too sweet. He had the chicken enchiladas, combo of red and green. He preferred the red. Overall, solid choice. Atmosphere was a bit loud so keep that in mind if your fellow dinners have hearing issues 😉

There was a two-hour wait when we arrived, so we were very grateful to have reservations! It took just over five minutes for a table to open up and then the service was very quick and she checked in often. As always, the food at Rojo is exceptional--best Mexican in Minneapolis. The sweet rice alone is soooo good and the Mexican corn makes for a great appetizer. Drinks are strong and service is quick. Great way to end a stressful work week.

We were seated quickly. We ordered fajitas and enchiladas. Our food came out fast and was excellent. Really enjoyed the salsa and chips at the table. Our server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back!

Very busy restaurant and crowded tables, so very noisy as well. We found the service very slow. When our meals arrived, my wife's was missing and after 5 minutes the service came over and said it was coming. It came 15 minutes after we were all served. We had asked if there were any less spicy meals and the server said some were not spicy at all. I had a taco salad with lime vinegarette and it was the least spicy dressing offered. My wife had a burito with "non-spicy" red sauce and she found it extremely spicy and only at some of it. So we ordered them and found them very spicy for us. They cleared the table and we waited over 30 minutes to get our check after having to flag down the server. It is a popular restaurant, but we won't be going back.

Was excited to go here after hearing about it for the last year. I’ve heard a lot of bad but love the St. louis park location. Seemed slightly short staffed, my waitress got at least 5 tables at once so took awhile to get the check, managements fault not hers. Hard to hear my friend talk because of the loud music and how sound carries in the huge open resturant that has a connecting kitchen. Great prices at happy hour but wish more food options on it. Got the queso dip which was amazing. So were the steak tacos. Sweet rice wasn’t as great as I remember from other location but still good. Not perfect but will probably go back

We enjoyed our lunch at Rojo. The waitress was so nice and helpful. We were in the back part of the restaurant where the music was so loud, we could hardly hear ourselves.

Food was great as always. Being that it was opening week there are some kinks that need to be worked out. Server was super nice but forgot our drinks for awhile. But the manager or owner came around checking on tables and got us our stuff. Overall a pretty good experience though. One of my favorite restaurants

The tables were SO close together that we could hear the conversations very clearly of customers on both sides of us. And one side, they were just a couple of inches next to us. Also the server was terrible. She asked us if we were getting dessert when we had just started eating and then as soon as we paid the bill, she cleared the whole table and asked if she could take our waters. She clearly was trying to get us to leave quickly and we had ordered right away and had eaten pretty quickly.

Weren’t ready to open to public. Ran out of food, orders screwed up and very long waits for food. Felt like they didn’t do a soft open and if they did, weren’t prepared for a full opening to the public. Give it a few weeks so they can iron out the wrinkles.

Great opening week experience at one of our favorite restaurants. I like that this location has options for 2 tacos vs 3. We also had nachos and margaritas. Everything was excellent.

Our server, Brandon, was amazing! We were celebrating our son’s 22nd birthday. We ordered chicken quesadillas, a chimichanga, the salmon salad, and chicken tacos - we also had fried ice cream for dessert. The salmon salad was amazing, the rest of the food was good. I thought the brown (mole?) sauce on the chimichanga was bland and the taco presentation was a bit lacking. The quesadilla and tacos were very similar to chipotle in our opinion. The wait staff really did a great job keeping up with everything. I would say this location is more of a snack/hangout/mtg joint than a place to go celebrate with your family because the location vibe is more cafe-esque bar. The food is more hipster Mexican than authentic Mexican food, but we would all go back.
