Restaurant Claudine, Carpenter Carpenter’s third establishment, resides in a remodeled home in the up-and-coming Government Hill neighborhood. The space offers snug tables surrounded by elegant hand-painted wallpaper, vintage chandeliers, and sentimental pictures of our namesake, Houston Carpenter’s grandmother, Claudine.

Cassie Ramsay, chef de cuisine, hails from Mixtli and has a decade of experience creating magic in the kitchen. Inspired by grandma’s southern-comfort style cuisine with an elevated French influence, menu items include: fried chicken with fermented hot honey and pommes puree, as well as escargot and blue crab beignets. On weekends we offer an exclusive brunch in addition to a tea service from 2pm-4pm that includes all the signature favorites.

Claudine’s came out of the gate strong when it first opened a couple of years ago and we lived at Pearl. We were frequent diners until we moved to Dallas six months ago. We ate there this past Saturday night and it verged on awful. Why paint the house exterior Lincoln Log reddish brown??? Slow service. Terrible fried okra that was no better than a fast casual bbq place. It made us so sad.

Despite the great service and atmosphere, the tea service was outrageously overpriced. One sandwich per person (4 triangles) with one biscuit, a boiled egg, and with two tiny portions of a dessert for $40 per person is outrageously overpriced. I would not recommend coming here for tea. If visiting, I would recommend ordering a tea for the table and ordering off the menu instead.

Overall good experience & very cute space! Staff were kind & made sure we had everything we needed. Food had taken a bit longer than expected to come out, but again, staff gave updates and communication was good.

Evening was good and food was great. Very noisy and the table with a big group was next to us Service was good and friendly but it took a long time to get our food. Not a place for a quick supper. A great spot for a special night. We will be back.

For some reason we had the slowest service I have ever been part of. We arrived at 7:30. It’s now 15 till 10 and I haven’t yet received the bill. The food was excellent but it is slow serve. We felt as if we were ignored.

The food was amazing from start to finish. The grilled oysters were perfect!!! The grits in the shrimp and grits dish were so good! They were creamy but a bit larger grain so there was almost a crunch. Mind blowing good! The drinks were spectacular. We tried the Nola Sour, Squash by Gosh and spicy bloody mary. Wow! They were all flavorful and decently strong. We will definitely be back!

Overall, our experience at Restaurant Claudine was very nice. We were having an early dinner before a show so there was not many people in the restaurant. Service was great, although I would have preferred a table not so close to the kitchen. I had an very good strip steak and frites and my wife had the red snapper, which was even better than the steak. We had some very interesting crab beignets with a champagne honey for an appetizer. I loved them but my wife just found them interesting. Dessert was a little bit of a letdown with just an average pecan pie w/ice cream. The pie was served to us cold and we had to ask to have it warmed up. Overall, though, a very cool little place. It's a house that's been redone in the style of a nice French country restaurant with different color schemes for each room. Nice atmosphere and soft music set a fun mood. Food was very good, but not sure it blew us away enough to come back.

We arrived early and were seated almost immediately. The room they gave us was set for at least four parties but we were able to dine in the room alone as I requested a romantic setting. The music was soothing and a mixture. I was pleasantly surprised to see ladies dressed for tea parties with hats and gloves. The meal from the oyster appetizers, the rabbit bolognese, glazed carrots, gumbo and pecan pie we worth every penny as it was delicious. Highly recommend this for any occasion.

We enjoyed our experience at Restaurant Claudine. We did have a vegetarian though and were disappointed that they didn't have more flexibility making something for her. She ended up dining on sides and a salad.. otherwise, the rest of us enjoyed our meal.

I have eaten here one other time and it was fabulous. Maybe just an off night or a new chef for our Saturday night dinner. We ordered the okra and the beignets. The okra was fabulous. Honestly, the only thing that was eaten. Amongst the 4 of us, 2 out of the 3 beignets were left. More if you consider the portions on our plates not eaten. Gumbo was ok, my husband ate about 1/2 of it. He ordered the fish and I ordered the pork. Just not good. My daughter and I ate here when they first opened and it was over the top delicious. We fought over the last beignet and the chicken oh my. Just so good. I am hoping it was just an off night.

The hot chicken wasn’t very good this time. It was a lot of fat and very little chicken. We’ve been here a few times and this time the food seemed off. A little disappointing for my wife’s birthday dinner.

Delicious heirloom tomato salad and Kobe beef burger. Ordered the oysters and that was a flop unfortunately. They were so tiny and surprised they didn’t come with any bread to place them on. The other food was delicious besides that though. Ambience is nice and the decor is adorable. The waiter was great!

The restaurants absolutely beautiful. However, brunch left something to be desired. My shrimp and grits was fine, but only three shrimp for $20 and the grits were incredibly thick, But the flavor was good. My mom’s eggs were made wrong, but it took so long to get the food, We just kept them. My dads salad was full of Wilty brown lettuce, but they did replace it with a Fresher one that was better. I think this is a better dinner place. I would like to try dinner and compare. They were definitely short staffed, but everyone was very kind and as attentive as they could be.

We had been there before, and it was great. However, on Valentine’s Day, the service was horrible, the food was cold, and what you got for the price was poor. So disappointed because this restaurant is so cute and the decor is beautiful.

I was so excited to find out that they do high tea ceremony on the weekends so I took my mom for afternoon tea. Everything was lovely, delish and just picture perfect. The service was top notch! We love Restaurant Claudine!

After waiting way too long to experience this restaurant, we finally did on my wife’s birthday. It was everything we could have asked for plus more. Excellent experience all the way around. We will be back.

Had the Sunday brunch menu. It was fantastic! But we really want to go back for the dinner menu. Either way, you won't be disappointed. The food is expertly crafted and the cocktail are sublime! Get here. As fast as you can.
