Fine Dining in every aspect. Proudfoot & Bird, named after the original Hotel Fort Des Moines architects, pays homage to the glamorous days of years past with every detail. Adorned with stunning marble tables, intricate gold ceiling inlay, plush soft seating, and grand circular bar we have recreated a time that was filled with elegance, extravagance, and indulgence. Housed in the historic Hotel Fort Des Moines, we have taken every step possible to protect a valued piece of Des Moines’ cherished history. Two semi-private areas available, seating eight and ten guests respectfully.

Love the ambiance of the dining room with the wood burning stoves. Our server was excellent with great suggestions and impeccable service. She absolutely made the dinner a great experience. We loved the burnt end pork belly appetizer. It was by far the best pork belly we have ever had. All our food was very well prepared and enjoyable. The wine list was not very extensive, I wish they would broaden it. The food menu was also limited, but it did not keep us from finding great meals. I would highly recommend.

GREETED, SEATED QUICKLY AND WITH A SMILE. THEY WENT OVER MENUS, SUGGESTED BEVERAGES. WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT THE "WEBSITE MENU" DID NOT MATCH WHAT THE INHOUSE MENU WAS (craving lobster risotto), SELECTED STEAK FRITES & DUCK. 2 SIDES, ASPARAGUS AND BRUSSEL SPROUTS. ALL WERE COOKED TO PERFECTION. HAS STICKY CARAMEL AND CHEESECAKE DESSERTS -VERY GOOD. WAITRESS WAS VERY GOOD AT CHECKING ON US AND NOT INTRUSSIVE. WILL BE BACK & WOULD SUGGEST YOU GIVE THEM A TRY.

Menu on OpenTable was not up to date. Little disappointed as we were looking forward to the bone marrow. Both of us got the Steak Ftites - One filet was noticeably smaller than the other. At the cost of the entree that was very disappointing. Food was delicious.

Proudfoot and Bird goes above and beyond with their meals! Home-made cheese, yes please! Kudos to the amazing chef! The ambiance is very pleasant and the servers are outstanding! You just can’t go wrong having a special meal here!

We had a family dinner for my wife's 60th birthday. The staff was attentive, our table was ready and the food and drinks were spaced nicely so we could enjoy conversation along with a delicious meal. Service staff were exceptional.

Proudfoot and Bird never disappoints! The food tonight was outstanding! Even my son loved the charred carrots as an appetizer. Our server, Eric, was so much fun while also very professional. We keep coming back and will continue to do so!

Every time we’ve been to Proudfoot & Bird, we’ve received excellent service and enjoyed fabulous food. Kudos to two of the very best members of the waitstaff, Alyssa and Brad. Thank you for making our last two visits so memorable. We’ll be back!

Love the feeling of this place – like a comfortable dining with friends with marble tables and 5 piece silver cutlery table setting. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The salad special, oysters and filet were amazing. Our service by Brad was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.

Had an overall wonderful experience for dinner. The atmosphere is very nice, un-Des Moines Like. Our server Liz was outstanding in every sense. She was friendly, yet very professional and it provided truly exemplary service, which seems to be the exception anymore when dining out. The food was all perfect, temperature perfect and steaks all cooked to perfect medium rare. Will certainly be back again to see you. While the food was great, Liz truly made an overall very pleasant evening, thank you Liz!

Proudfoot and Bird is one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever dined in. The whole aesthetic of the restaurant and hotel is fabulous. The food is incredible also and impeccable service.

Filet was seasoned well and very tender. Only downside was the place smelled of smoke. From when we walked in through the hotel you could smell it starting there. Will still go again for a great meal.

The food would have received 5 stars except the green beans in the white fish dish were so hard they were basically inedible . Unfortunately, both my wife and I had the white fish. We will certainly go back and everything else was 5 star quality.

From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were greeting with attentive, courteous smiles. Our server, Eric, honestly MADE our night. He greeted us with a wonderful history of the building, the reason for the name(s) of Proudfoot & Bird, and the lovely back story of the multi-million dollar renovations. While I missed Django being in that space, P&B has done an amazing job bringing back the luster and romance of the original ceilings, walls and woodwork. Our meal was presented in such a way that we shared with Eric what we liked on the menu and he directed us to the wood-roasted oysters with a smoked jalapeno butter (we nearly skipped these based on our other wants from the menu), but they were divine--slight brine with smoky butter. SO GOOD! Then we knew we wanted the pork belly burnt ends and they didn't disappoint with the trio of pickled veg and some out of this world cheddar, flaky biscuits. We could have stopped there, but NO! We had to order dinner which consisted of the Duck a la Mandarin and I had the pork ribeye. Both were delectable with interesting characteristics like the bok choy with the duck and the heirloom grits--perfect pairings indeed. We also ordered the charred heirloom carrots on a bed of puree that reminded me of sweet potato it was so soft and creamy with a hint of salt to bring out the flavors. En fin, we ordered the flourless chocolate torte. While this seems like a typical dessert on most menus, P&B knocked it out of the park with the strawberry coulee and the dense, dark chocolate torte with perfectly orbed dollops of sweet cream. We will definitely return to this place time and again, but only if we have Eric as our waiter. He stole the show. Thanks to the entire for a amazing post-Valentine dinner with my darling husband. Keep up the wonderful culinary service you're all doing!

We had a group of 4 and did the prix fixe southern France tasting menu, each trying just about all the offerings. My goodness, the cauliflower bisque with the salmon and caviar was the crème de la creme of the night. We all agreed it was amazing. The steak was an interesting cut of meat but had the best crust and seasoning I’ve had in a long time served with the best seasoned frites. the Mulberry sour drink was the hit of night and the desert, my goodness, chocolate explosion in the best way, the dark chocolate strawberries and the steaming fresh out of the oven chocolate cake with lemon sauce made our tastebuds explode. tremendous service and impeccable atmosphere, decor and aesthetic. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend, well worth the money and time for a nice dinner or evening out.
