Our best restaurant experience in Durango for creative and delicious selections. This restaurant would receive high marks in any city in the US for fine dining. We should return to Durango very soon just to dine at Primus.

Our dinner at Primus was phenomenal. Paul was attentive and friendly. The food was the best we’ve had in Durango- for a price! Definitely will come back for special occasions.

Very wonderful experience since we are big fans of game. The flavors were outstanding. The only letdown was the dessert-2 of the 3 we order were marginal at best.

Our hostess and waiter were both energetic and helpful. The food and portions were extraordinary. Primus is our go to place for special occasions, and we plan on keeping the tradition going for years to come.

Just tried it for the first time yesterday for Valentine's day with my girlfriend. I guess I got lucky when I picked this place because it was perfect. When I say perfect, I mean everything was perfect. I'll definitely be going back. I recommend the Lobster roll.

Excellent, excellent, excellent. My only complaint is that I listed on the reservation that it was my wife's 50th birthday and no special effort was made to recognize that. There were no expectations of a "free dessert" or staff singing, however, I did expect a "happy birthday" or other recognition. We will MOST certainly return and give outstanding reviews to those we come in contact with. Thanks again!!!

If you are looking for a dinner of wild game, this is your place. However, whatever you get, be prepared to shell out some cash because this place is pricey. The meal preparation and service were very good. No complaints there. It's just much more expensive for what you get than most places in Durango. Upstairs also is very loud with the tables close together. If you are not a fan of wild game, your options are somewhat limited as well.

This was my first time at this establishment and it was very good overall. I do believe the quality of the meal was very high. Alcohol prices are that of being in NYC but the cocktails didn’t quite hit the mark for a $20+ beverage. The scallops were spectacular and were very well portioned! The quail was a bit underwhelming but still a unique dish. I was a little disappointed in the fact I put a bottle of wine in before dinner to come out at the same time and it didn’t show up until halfway through the meal. When you are spending $400 for two people, this is the kind detail that needs to be paid attention to. I would definitely go back but if the same issues happened again, I would probably choose to spend my money where the service matches the quality of the meal itself.

After a terrible experience when the restaurant first opened a few years ago, we decided to give it another try for Christmas Eve. So glad we gave it another shot! The food was interesting and super tasty. The atmosphere was quaint and the service excellent. Will definitely be one of special occasion restaurants in town going forward.

Primus far exceeded our expectations. Our friends got the mussels which were in a curry sauce and deemed it the best mussels they’ve ever had. Our server, Holly, was amazing as well.

This is by far the most expensive restaurant in Durango. They have a lot of exotic entrees. The wine list is extensive, and they are all available by the glass, which is a real plus. But buyer beware here, and expect to pay $50 to $100 for the entrees and $30 to $40 for a glass of wine. While they do have a lot of great entrees and excellent wine choices, we had to wait quite a while for our entrees. The Bill with tip was over $400, so I think that the kitchen should have been more prompt, considering that the restaurant was only half full on a Saturday night.

First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to Chef John and Kerry Daly for their extraordinary efforts in making our evening truly exceptional. Their meticulous attention to detail and their graciousness in accommodating a last-minute reservation change were truly remarkable. The surprise flower arrangement for my wife was a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for a memorable birthday celebration. The culinary journey at Primus began with the Colorado Red Wagyu Tomahawk, a true masterpiece of flavor and tenderness. Accompanied by flavorful Brussel sprouts and pesto cauliflower, it delighted our taste buds. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the lobster risotto, a harmonious blend of oceanic richness and balanced flavors that left a lasting impression. Now, let's talk about dessert—the highlight of the evening. The cake of the day, a vanilla chiffon masterpiece with banana custard, elegantly enveloped in coconut buttercream, was a visual and gustatory delight. My wife couldn't have asked for a better birthday cake, and every forkful was a harmonious symphony of flavors that served as the perfect conclusion to our exquisite meal. I must commend our server, Holly. Her impressive knowledge of the menu and her attentive service elevated our dining experience to new heights. Throughout the evening, she demonstrated not only courtesy but also a genuine commitment to ensuring that we felt truly welcomed and cared for. Our dining experience was wonderful . Holly was are server and very knowledgeable with the menu. I have Celiac Disease ( Gluten Allergy ) and a Shellfish allergy. Chef John and staff accommodated my dietary needs. I would call this restaurant a scratch kitchen to alter ingredients to allow people with allergies to eat great food. My husband and I shared 3 items on their menu. The Charred Octopus , Bison Filet Tartare and The Alaskan Halibut Ceviche. Thank you Chef John and staff for delicious food , great service Holly and a lovely experience! We will see you the next time we are in town .

We were visiting from Phoenix and Newport Beach and This is one of the best restaurants we’ve been to. The menu is incredible and everything we ordered was perfect. We try to come back every time we are in the area!

The food was stellar. The ceviche was exquisite and the wagyu ribeye was perfectly prepared. Beyond the terrific courses, the cocktails were well done. However, the crowning achievement of the experience was the service! Our waiter, Trevor, was phenomenal. I typically do not lightly recommend restaurants, but definitely plan to visit here again.

Wonderful menu with wild game and creative dishes more mainstream. Had buffalo tartare as app and was delicious. Wife had trout with lump crab. She loves it and the cocktail menu. I had ostrich with glass of red wine from menu. Superb! Wait staff on a Friday night was on fire and very well received. Great meal in downtown Durango after being on the road all day. Be forewarned, this was a spendy meal so if on a budget, look for a different place.

We enjoyed our dinner at Primus. We ordered appetizers and entrees for each person and shared them all. They were unusual and delicious and made for a fun and entertaining evening. Our waiter was attentive and funny and gave us good advice. We loved her.

Primus was a real find for us on our recent visit to Durango. We celebrated my Husband’s birthday that evening and were very pleased with our choice of restaurants!!!! The quality of food and the creativity of the dishes coming out of the kitchen exceeded our expectations. Foie Gras and Grilled Octopus as first courses were presented in a beautiful manner. Rack of Lamb and Lobster/Scallops were both superb entree choices. Finally, a crème brûlée with local peaches and a lemon/lime tart completed a divine dinner! This restaurant is truly a hidden gem in Durango and deserves a great deal of attention from anyone who enjoy an exquisite fine dining experience!

The appetizers and drink selection was fantastic, and the service staff was truly wonderful. We had the Lamb Rack which was very good, and the Tomahawk steak which was disappointing. The meat quality was good, but the steak was served on the bone but sliced into thin strips. It made me wonder if the meat was frozen just before it was grilled so it could cook faster. Given the Tomahawk was the most expensive item on the menu, we expected a 5 star sizzling steak presentation. We liked Primus, but for the overall price of our meal, I don't know that we would come back anytime soon.

The food was awesome, each of the party had different meals in end had to share as each was soo good. We decided to eat out front as is was a nice evening and to get the ambiance of DT Durango scene. Might be pricy but worth it!

We started with the bread basket for 2; nice white bread with soft crust and pita, along with a pesto and butter with olive oil. I ordered the marscapone tortellini (4 to an order) that he’d double pasta wrapping. They looked like opened envelopes. The pasta was chewy, center luscious and sauce a bit spicy. My husband ordered the scallops with lobster (rich sauce; scallops pan seared) crispy Brussel sprouts and butternut squash. The sides were prepared nicely; not Al dente nor over cooked. We finished with the deconstructed goat cheese cake starved in a stemless wine glass. Yummy!

My daughter and i visited this restaurant after being given a gift certificate. Together we had lobster bisque (with lobster addition), the brûlée cesar salad, lobster roll with their potato (cake) of the day and scallops & lobster entree with lobster risotto and Brussels sprouts. All were amazingly presented and absolutely delectable. I also had their cherry pomegranate mule which was expertly crafted.
