Prelude Kitchen & Bar is Restaurant located in Downtown Sacramento that serves Modern American, Farm to Fork cuisine. Our Chefs work directly with local Sacramento Farmers to source local ingredients for each dish. We believe food and dining is more than sustenance, it's a connection between guests, chefs, farmers, and the nature that surrounds us. Our menu is crafted from scratch, ensuring that every bite resonates with exceptional taste, genuine flavor, and fine dining quality. Prelude Kitchen & Bar is conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Sacramento next to the Crest Theater, Golden One Center, State Capitol, SAFE Credit Union Convention Center and Performing Arts Center. Celebrated Mothers Day Saturday night. We like that it is close to the Capitol Building. Although the parking did not allow to validate, it was still a great experience. Although it would have been nice if we were given notice about the parking situation. Overall satisfied with the restaurant kudos to Victoria who provided exceptional service.

Delicious food and excellent service! Quality ingredients and generous portions — the pork chop was cooked perfectly and I took half of it home. Loved the gelato to end the meal. We sat outside and it was warm, but pleasant. Warm and courteous staff. I am looking forward to dining there again.

Server Ryan was outstanding! Ambiance was lovely except for the row of very bright small “spotlights” beaming down to one of the places at each table on 2 rows of tables. Food was delicious. Halibut was a smidgen over cooked so a bit dry. Overall the flavors were lovely including the halibut, shrimp and asparagus appetizer. We will definitely go back.

AH-MAZING dinning experience. The pork chop was cooked to perfection. My husband’s rib eye was full of flavor. He ACTUALLY liked the peas that came with it so I knew it was good. Produce was very fresh and sourced locally. U can taste the love and passion of the chef come thru in the dishes. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about every minor detail on each dish and u could tell he too loves his job and is proud to work there. Very quiet and romantic, simple decor. They let the food speak for itself. Highly recommend.

My wife and I are from out of town and had a night away to a concert and chose Prelude for dinner before. It exceeded our expectations with amazing service and the food was excellent. My wife is looking for reasons to go back to Sacramento to have dinner there again.

Amazing experience for two. portions were awesome you can do two appetizers and a share a meal for a girls night out. It’s a great treat and would definitely go again.

Food was absolutely wonderful - we started with the Brussels sprouts and the had the pork chop and risotto, and finished with lavender honey crème brûlée. Service was friendly and impeccable. Just a great experience.

We had an amazing time at Prelude. The service was amazing and the food was fantastic. We originally booked to sit outside but we asked to sit inside due to the heat. The manager accommodated us . He even gave us gift card for future use. Overall we had great experience.

This was ok. The bread was phenomenal and maybe I filled up. Soup of the day I loved but my friend had clumps of cheese. The salad was not flavored greatly but the linguini was pretty amazing only wish it had some sort of cheese. Calabrian pesto on it was bomb. Wine is over priced for sure. Over all meh… won’t go back but good to try

We had an incredible dining experience at this fantastic restaurant that I've been eager to try for quite some time. We were warmly greeted by a charming hostess and sat down immediately, unfortunately the patio was too hot so we opted for indoor seating instead but it didn't affect our enjoyment of the meal one bit! Our server was attentive, friendly & knowledgeable about all aspects of menu items which made us feel welcome throughout; not only did they serve fresh bread straight from oven alongside delicious charcuterie board selection - their entrées (scallops cooked just right with tender texture still intact), mouthwatering pork chop full offlavorsome juices within every single bite taken plus perfectly grilled ribeye and short rib paired amazingly well over creamy polenta making each member taste buds sing joyfully while enjoying wonderful ambiance created by talented chef leading his team behind scenes ensuring consistent high quality food coming out kitchen.. Definitely returning back here again soon!

We had a great meal at Prelude Kitchen. The Manhattan was outstanding, as was the drinks for my companions. My scallops entree was amazing and the service was very good. We were just visiting Sacramento this time, but would definitely love to come back.

We decided to have an early dinner at Prelude before our flights back home on our last day in CA. Turned out to be a great place. We might have been the only family in there with kids but it was not awkward. The food was great and service was excellent.

Do not eat here. The food was inedible. We ordered the rib eye and risotto respectively. Both dishes were terrible. It was a huge disappointment. Places like this are the reason restaurants are dying on the vine. Honestly, they should have paid me to eat here. Never again. For the first time in 40 years, I did not leave a tip. The poor service matched the poor food. The drinks are overpriced, $26 for a glass of Rombauer Chardonnay. I would rather eat home or at a chain restaurant. This place is too loud and the acoustics are awful. You can hardly hear your dining partner. “Validated Parking “ at the garage they say, unless you prepay. The parking garage requires that you prepay when you park. Such a miserable experience. You want to experience good food or exceptional restaurants, go to New York City, New Orleans , or Napa. Sacramento is lacking.

The food was excellent and our server was outstanding, but the portions are small for the cost. We ordered the Caesar salad to share after being told it was a large size, but we received two very small portions that would equal one small salad. The pork entree was delicious but half the plate consisted of the pickled onion and little else. The dessert of orange chocolate mouse cake likewise was delicious, but was less than a 2” square piece. My partners slice of olive oil cake was a more expected size.

Wonderful staff, very well organized and kept close tabs on the customers. Very knowledgeable about the menu and able to explain well the top entree and starters without being biased. Ambiance was perfect and location/parking was very accessible, will definitely come back. And last but not least, food was really good!

We went to Prelude on a rez for lunch. Not at all crowded with many open tables, yet we were taken to the very last table in the back of the place (why?). Ordered a glass of Chablis, but our server brought a glass of Champagne. We both ordered hamburgers. I requested "rare" on mine but asked what that may look like at this restaurant. The server replied she had "never seen" what that looks like (really?!). My partner ordered "medium rare," so I ordered the same but given the reply about "rare," I asked if that meant they would at least be pink on the inside, to which the server said "Yes, they will definitely be pink inside." Well, when the burgers were served, not only were both patties black on the outside, but worse, my partner's was dark brown and very "well-done" inside, while mine was close to the same. We were both very disappointed in our food choices, and in general with the experience, especially given that it was all quite expensive too.

It’s understandable to expect to pay a higher than average price for delicious, top tier food from an excellent establishment. I came in expecting to pay on the higher side. However, it’s a bit outrageous to charge $47 for 5 scallops during lunch (they should at least state the number of scallops on the menu). I left feeling hungry, and even my guest commented on how small the portion size. Delicious food, but absolutely terrible value.

We loved it! It rained and the patio was closed so we didn’t get the view of the capitol but that’s ok. Our server Devin was AMAZING. He recommended some great dishes, was attentive and so friendly! Honestly, all of the staff was lovely. For apps, we had the Brussel sprouts, banh mi bruschetta and potato leek soup! ALL THREE were beautifully plated and tasty. I’m not a fan of pork but tried it and was pleasantly surprised. The meat didn’t overwhelm the dish and the flavors were on point. The Brussel sprouts were yummy but a huge serving (that we ultimately took for take away to save room for everything else). The soup was flavorful and perfect for the weather. For entrees we had the spinach linguine and the short ribs. The linguine was ok, it was colorful but not as flavorful as it should have been for how it looked. We added chicken to it that was slightly dry. The short ribs however, stole the show. They melted off the bone and in your mouth; were served on a bed of goat cheese polenta (there is no other way I will have polenta in the future) with expertly cooked veggies and a chutney that complemented every bite. For dessert we had a honey lavender, crème brûlée, Affogato, gelato, and cappuccino. Each was EXCELLENT. We left feeling like this is definitely a place we would come back to, but we have to sit on the patio!

I really enjoyed my first dinning experience at Prelude. I’ll definitely be back. We came to celebrate my sister’s 36th birthday. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 for missing some small details that would’ve made our visit outstanding. First I indicated in the reservation we were celebrating a birthday. There was no acknowledgment of the birthday from the host or our waiter. Besides that, Michael was an exceptional waiter. Second, we were initially seated at a small table right off the kitchen in an awkward place. That could just be our preference but we asked to be seated elsewhere. We were moved to a nice table with a much better view of the restaurant. If it was a regular day in the month, it wouldn’t have been a disappointment to be seated there, but since we were celebrating, we definitely didn’t want to see and hear a kitchen door all night. Food was phenomenal, ambiance was great, just a few small details that would have made our visit even more memorable.

Great combination of flavors in the halibut with squid ink pasta with a slight spicy but flavorful sauce that complemented everything. Started with the Brussel sprouts that overall were delicious but not quite hot enough. The pork chop was out of this world in flavor. Cooked to perfection With pork belly red cabbage to make a perfect match. Service was such that we felt like the only persons in there. Liked it a lot
