    Aged sirloin for Sunday lunch was overseasoned (perhaps the joint was pre-salted), and the slices (two of them ) were a little thinner than they needed to be. There’s a lot of clatter if you’re sitting at the bar, but overall way better than most places.

    Enjoyed our visit to Porterhouse. Nice menu options. Tasty food, well executed in the main. Little problem with the calves’ liver dish which was dealt with discreetly. Busy ambiance, service was fine. Not cheap but relatively reasonable value. Happy to recommend.

    This used to be one of the best restaurants in Newcastle a couple of years ago. It's was always somewhere me and my wife felt like we were being served 5 star food with 5 star service during our shopping trips. However the last few times we've been so much seems to have changed from the staff through to the food quality. Previously staff would remember your name from previous visits and management would make a point of speaking to you to make sure your experience was up to standard. You barely get acknowledged now. The food was always incredible also but our most recent visit just wasn't that. The server we had was all to familiar and by that I mean a bit in your face and trying to predict what we were going to say and asking us the same questions over again. That said she was nice and not so much rude just not porterhouse standard in our eyes. Then there was the food. The goujons were half the portion size they used to be and the butter wasn't the usual bought in from a local farm. We both ordered fillet steaks. While mine was cooked medium as requested the steak didn't taste the same. Definitely a different supplier to what they have had for many years. My wife asked for medium well and got a bloody steak barely medium rare so this had to go back and be re-cooked. By the time it came our sides and my steak were getting cold. We ordered a pepper sauce which was way too runny and didn't get used. We then asked for the complimentary mustards you have always got with the steaks, which were £46 each, only to be told they are no longer free and need to pay for the bearnaise. While the food is still good the welcoming feeling and previously high "21 group" standards have seriously dipped. If you haven't been before you may feel your experience is an enjoyable one however after experiencing the renowned 21 service and quality for many years I'm sure the way things are here now will be well below the standard Terry Labourne would be expecting of one of his establishments.

    Food was good however our waitress and waiter failed to explain the full menu,we were shown the one on the table, we noticed the special boards ourselves but nothing further was explained. During our meal we saw the table next to us being delivered Fruits de la mere, something two of the three diners would have ordered but not on the menu. We asked the waitress about this and why it was not on our menu- she then began to show us other tables with this menu on where you could chose other items, when asked why our table had not had this option - she could only reply its on the other tables, very disappointing service. On a positive note our chosen Italian wine was superb and all three starters of prawn cocktail, oysters and king prawns were exceptionally fresh flavoursome and presented to a high standard.
