This place doesn't use on the table booking. So when we arrived on a busy bank Holiday we where extremely lucky to get a seat, don't know why this pub in on this site. Ps I wouldn't recommend it any way the Sunday lunch was one of the worse I have ever eaten. Everything was over cooked. Service was awful and the bar staff seemed to cough all over the cloth he used to wipe the tables with. Horrible place

Booked meal for 12.15 pm. Tried to ring to say we'd be 5-10 minutes late, but no answer. Turned up about 12.25pm and front door was locked with no sign off life inside. Went to side, still no sign. As pressed for time ate elsewhere. Called in to Pont-y-Pair about 1.30pm. Pub busy. Was told by staff memer that they had opened up late, and she apologized. Disappointed as had eaten there many times before, in evenings,and been quite satisfied. Having read other reviews subsequently, this is not the first time that customers had experienced late openings

Food was nice ,but disappointed that there wasn't much choice on the menu everything was sold out !!

In a brusque manner the person who greeted us said that they did not take online bookings and did not use OpenTable. We had tried to call them on 3 voice response unit options but they did not answer as we had an additional two guests. They did acquiesce to seating us and gave us a set of menus. This looked like a chain, the meals on a table we passed on the way through didn't look that appetising. We decided to leave, this would have been awful. Standard fare from the freezer - best avoided I'd suggest. I think we had a narrow escape. So, I've no idea if the person we encountered actually knew about the online booking status of the pub, but I think you should remove this from your web site until you've confirmed that they take bookings.

Even though we'd booked a table at 7pm, we Googled the pub and found the kitchen closed at 6pm. We were passing at 5.30pm so thought we'd check and sure enough it did shut at 6pm. Not sure why they allow people to book tables when the kitchen is closed. We did sit down and eat but we were made to feel unwelcome and a bit of an inconvenience - the lady serving didn't smile once. Food was good but all in all not a great experience, especially as it was for a birthday meal.

Roast dinner was very poor. Microwave veg and watery gravy, such a shame for an old pub. Good service from the waiter who brought the food out but unfriendly atmosphere from other members of staff.

There is clearly a disconnect as the pub is not using open table so booking is a complete fantasy which staff are not aware of. We waited 15 mins but no staff around no tables reserved and no sign of any food being served that lunchtime

Avoid avoid avoid. Do not waste your time or money here. Staff are rude how this place has good reviews is beyond me. Don't waste your time or money go to the royal oak instead. Just down the road.

I was worried after reading the reviews about not acknowledging bookings made, especially being NYE however, when we arrived there was a room dedicated to bookings only. We were seated straight away and staff were very pleasant. Food came quickly, steak was tough on the mixed grill but everything else was lovely.

The venue was very nice. Good food and drink, so we can't complain about the pub. Typical pub food. However we we lucky to eat there as they never received our booking from open table. Apparently the app doesn't allow the venue access to the booking site. Thus no bookings from this site are acknowledged by the pub. Get your act together open table.

Don't ever use Open Table to make a Reservation and don't ever be tempted to visit Pont-y-pair They took a Reservation for Lunch at 13:00 and a Ten Pound Deposit per person, and the place doesn't open until 14:00... We we were advised of this when the door to the Premise was finally opened by a Man with Pit Bull type Dog. This denied any possibility of any meaningful discussion It was near enough impossible to contact Open Table or Pont-y-pair afterwards and when we spoke with Marty at Open Table, he absolved the Company of any responsibility. Pont-y-par have ignored E-mails and our Telephone Calls have gone unanswered. The Messages that we have left have gone unanswered. At best this in incompetence, at worst, Fraud. Eat at the Royal Oak Hotel

Arrived at 2pm for the table we had booked and had confirmed the day before - soaking wet and ready to eat - only to see a sign saying no food being served. I did speak to a lady to explain I had a booking - there was an apology - but I would have expected to be contacted prior to arriving. It certainly did not seem like anyone was expecting us - or had even thought of cancelling any bookings.

Pub opening times 12pm.. we were waiting outside until 12:15 as it was locked. Staff member came to open hlaf asleep. Didnt even say hello. Thaought was a good start, Food was horrible, no taste to nothing. Beef was like rubber, the dogs enjoyed the food more than I did & £56 for two beef dinners and 2x Coke??.. unreal

Even though it was murder mystery night, we could have dinner because of our reservation. We loved it!

THIS PUB DOES NOT ACCEPT BOOKINGS (as at October 2023). This is a lovely pub and the food is ok. However, it does not accept bookings by any means, despite the fact they have a bookings link on their website!

Great little pub ran by lovely people. Although I should add, when we turned up and said we had a table booked, the girl behind the bar said they didn't take online bookings. Even though I had booked it through their website and had a confirmation email. She went off to look for a table and "fitted us in" all the same.

Only one person front of house, the young lady performed miracles, we admired her serving bar, taking food orders, waiting table and making coffee, but it was busy and everyone was losing patience. Having to go back into the bar to collect our cutlery, limited condiments and no napkins, gave the canteen feeling.

This pub/restaurant do not operate on open table and even worse know this is active and don't seem interested in updating or having the page removed.

We turned up for our dinner reservation and were informed that the restaurant doesn’t take bookings via open table so we had to get dinner from the fish and chip shop opposite which was very good

Very disappointed. I spent time researching to find a good place for Sunday roast and this place had good reviews. It says rack of lamb on the menu but they don't do it. Ordered duo beef and pork. Beef was very dry, no pork crackling even though I asked. The table was dirty and sticky. The waitress brought the plate and if we hadn't of asked for our veg, we probably wouldn't have gotten it

I booked a table for dinner at 6:30, the reality is this open table booking system is not being used by the new owners and the restaurant closed for food at 6:00.

Cannot rate the pub, don’t use open table. Booked via open table to turn up and be told they don’t use it anymore and open table. haven’t removed them yet. So 4 people with nowhere to go. I don’t necessarily blame the pub, they could put something on their web site but open table need to remove the pub from the app. Do not book this pub via the app as the table will not be booked. 2 other people behind us had the same thing.
