From July 1st, 1957, there had been two owners of Pates, Cloyde Pate followed by the Gardner family of Chatham. Mr. Pate opened the doors to what would soon become one of Cape Cod’s most beloved restaurants. Once a cozy hamburger and ice cream stand, Pates grew to be a place of celebration, camaraderie, and community. From the bonds staff made during countless summer seasons, to the engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, and family gatherings, Pates has been a backdrop for exceptional moments and people.

We are honored to steward the next chapter of the Pates journey. A renovated space to create new memories and friends, Pates is still that very special place. With careful consideration, we have redefined this Chatham classic and are serving up an experience rooted in the best things in life: great food, good people, and lifelong memories.

Wonderful dinner at high tops in bar area. Espresso martini with Bailey’s for dessert!

Fantastic service and experience as always from Pates! We had the Korean Broccoli and Ceasar which both are AMAZING and filling large portions. My husband had the White bolognese which wasn’t really what he thought he was expecting (more like a light carbonara) but still very tasty and a huge portion. I enjoyed my favorite, the Seafood pan roast which again, huge portion and full of yummy seafood and perfectly cooked fresh pasta. With two cocktails each we were genuinely surprised at how reasonable our bill was (a meal like that we were expecting to be $200 plus). Highly recommend!

My husband and I dine at Pates quite often and it’s one of our favorite restaurants on the Cape, but our experience last night was disappointing. We ordered a drink and put our appetizer order in. We were hoping to enjoy our drinks for a bit but within 10 minutes our appetizer was out. We put in our dinner order in when we received the appetizer and again it was about 10-15 minutes until our entrees came out. Way too fast! I ordered the pork chop and that’s usually a dish that takes longer than normal. When the pork chop arrived it didn’t really look appealing. It turned out to be very bony and the meat was tough and fatty. My husband had the half chicken which was way too charred and again didn’t look appealing, but he said the meat wasn’t overcooked. We also were told that if you want the bread basket you now have to ask for it. Shouldn’t it be offered and you can choose if you would like it? Typically I love this restaurant and the food is great. I’m hoping it was just an off night and not the new norm for Pates.

Food was delicious. The Korean spicey broccoli was a big hit. Surf and Turf was good. The steak was a little overcooked but the lobster ravioli were great. Service was good and not rushed. I would definitely return.

First time at this restaurant. Food was excellent. I highly recommend the crab cake. Waitress was wonderful!

Floor managers constantly walked through the dining room but never did anything. Almost 20 minutes to get drinks. Portion size on Cod was too big, too breaded, which made it very dry.

Everything was pleasant from walking in the door and being greeted by the hostesses & their seating choice to the well timed waitress ( Heather) who went above and beyond delivering a free chowder and our flavorful cuisine. We had the seafood medley with surf & turf ending with banana crème for 2. This was our first time and we definitely hope to be back!

We arrived for an early 5:00pm reservation and were seated immediately. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and the drinks incredible. We ordered the Koran chili bbq broccoli, oysters and chicken lemongrass dumplings for appetizers, they were very yummy! Our entrees the Seafood Pan Roast and White Bolognese are two dishes that are lovingly made!! Everything was delicious 😋
