We returned to the University Arms Hotel after 24 years having held our wedding there in 2000 - we had indicated we were celebrating our anniversary but they could not have made it more special - so welcoming, kind and wanting to recognise our occasion in a special way

Excellent setting , ambience and surroundings. We had the Sunday Roast Beef which was very good although vegetables perhaps a little too al dente and it could have been warmer. Drinks are on the expensive side ,£14 for one glass of Sauvignon blanc we thought a bit steep but the house option was perfectly drinkable and much more reasonably priced. A lager was brought to the table in a can which also raised our eyebrows! All in all would go again though.

This restaurant lives up to its reputation. The staff is exceptionally professional and pleasant. The food is excellent. The variety of dishes and drinks make for a fine feast and prices reasonable. It’s truly British cuisine at its finest.

Lovely environment and waiting staff but the new menu was a bit limited with some fussy options. Smoked butter was not nice and the sourdough crust was very very tough. Nice dessert choices but 2 of our group would have liked to have a couple of scoops of ice cream (with a choice of flavours) but only an ice-cream sundae was available.

Visited with a vegetarian friend from India and I was concerned the options wouldn’t be good enough. He chose the forager pie, I had the fish pie and my husband had the burger. My friend thought the forager pie was very good. My pie was too, as was my husband’s burger. The cheesecake and the burnt cream desserts were excellent (I skipped dessert) The service was charming. The restaurant was very busy and the noise level (like most restaurants with hard surfaces) was high. Have been here many times and will return again. Love the decor.

Food is simply terrific. The list is not long but everything is exquisite. All our selections worked beautifully: tempura, trout, venison, pollock. Desserts were also great, just not enough room left for them

The staff were lovey, but as the room filled up they got busier and so we had to wait longer. They gave us some free olives as we waited for our mains to acknowledge the wait even though we hadn’t said anything which was a nice touch. The quality of the food was good and the portion sizes were very generous - especially the roast dinners. It’s a lovely room and you don’t feel on top of the other diners like you can do it some restuarants.

We had a very enjoyable meal at Parker’s Tavern. The food was very good. The servers were very nice, if a bit young and inexperienced. The timing was a bit off—my G&T arrived at least 10 minutes after my husband’s wine. But otherwise, we got a table with a nice view, as requested, and had a tasty meal of venison, goat cheese and endive salad and crab rarebit. The dining area was tastefully decorated with an interesting array of vintage prints and posters.
