Went for Mother’s Day and happy that it wasn’t too crowded. Shrimp tacos and enchiladas were great! Fresh chips and salsa were also excellent. Kids had steak quesadillas which were very good. Fresh table side guacamole was delicious although a bit pricey. Service was friendly and attentive

Went for Mother’s Day dinner. Took a chance as it was our first time there. Everyone loved their food. The vibe was great, loved the decor. The only issue was that we wanted to get agua de orchata for someone reason the waiter said it wasn’t good at the moment, didn’t explain really why. Suggested something else but it wasn’t anything similar. The service was not that great. We understood it was busy because it was a festive day but the waiter who had the table behind ours always kept checking up on them and out waiter kept disappearing that we had to ask the other waiter to find him. But overall it was great. Would come back again when less busy.

Going to Ortega's is one of our favorite places to go to in Hillcrest! A group of us UCSD nurses continue to meet up here even in our retirement. We've been coming here 15+ years for the great food & service. Chips & salsa are very good!! The only challenge these days is trying to find a parking spot. The widened bike lanes have taken away parking spots on University when it was already a challenge to park.

We had Easter brunch. Our server was nice and funny . Food coming out was kinda slow but not ridiculous. Beans are great. Table side guacamole was entertaining.

The server we had was aloof and rigid. My friend did not want beans and instead asked for veggies, or even something as simple as some lettuce on the side. He said he would not do that and didn’t offer any other options except double the rice. Not even an up-charge option. I also asked for a side of guacamole and the server said “we only offer table side guacamole”. What Mexican restaurant in San Diego doesn’t allow an option for a side of guacamole? I would have paid $2 -$6 for a small side. Why is my only option for a little guacamole a $13 table side event? Either a poor choice on the part of management or a poor choice on the part of the server.

If you like lobster definitely order that. It’s their signature dish and it was perfect. We also had red and mole enchiladas which were delicious and the sangria was tasty.

Overpriced. Food was not good. Taste nothing nothing like the food in puerto nuevo. They wouldnt serve this low quality food at their restaurant's in Mexico. Dont be fooled thinking its anything like going to Puerto Nuevo CAUSE IT IS NOT SIMILAR!!!!

Service was very sloooow. 20 mins to order food, 15 mins to get a drink, 15 minutes to wait for a check, 15 minutes to wait for the check to be picked up. Waitress was making silverware bundles the entire time not checking on us. An hour and a half experience could've easily been 45 minutes. Chicken mole enchiladas were atrociously bad, I literally spit it back out (they took it off the bill) - the best thing was the chips and dip and a bottled Dos Equis. I know they have a good happy hour but this dinner experience was bad. Thanks.

A perfect intimate night with close friends. The food was delicious and the drinks were strong. Our waitress provided excellent service. Always kept checking how we were doing. Overall I would go back again.

I went to Ortega's with my son and daughter in law during restaurant week. the Caesar salad was good and a big portion. My son had the soup served in a small bowl. He said it was filling. I had the lobster with beef, and they had the lobster with shrimp. The lobster was a little tough and small and the beef, I asked for medium, was charred black on the outside and well done on the inside. My son and daughter in law said their lobster was the same as mine and enjoyed their shrimp. The service was great, but they sat us at a table that was next to another table that shared the same seating/bench which also shared with another table. It's a bit enclosed and maybe that's why it was so loud? We could hear everyone's conversation except our own. Definitely not a good date spot. When both of those separate parties left, the restaurant had a more calm, relaxing feel and we could actually hear the nice music. I've been to the Ortega's restaurants in Puerto Nuevo, and I enjoyed the food at those locations.

Met out of town friends for dinner, hadn’t been in 10 years… and everything was still delicious - even the chips and salsa! Fresh Mexican seafood is just part of the selection and it was served perfectly with my classic Cadillac… 5 stars!

We decided to try Ortega’s for our special Valentines Dinner! We were not disappointed! Food was authentic and fresh. Our server Luis was above and beyond, he was on top of everything despite a busy night! We will definitely return!

We eat often enough at Mexican restaurants and so I thought I would get the expected dishes. When the salsa came out with the chips we were all asking "what is in that to make it SO good?" Ordered something different for me - the BANANA CRUSTED HUACHINANGO. It was really quite wonderful! Definitely worth a repeat visit to have again! The side of beans was nicely pureed to a smooth-as-silk consistency. A really nice accompaniment to a great meal.

Took forever to be acknowledged after we were seated. Had to flag down an employee to order drinks (which took forever). And again to order dinner. Restaurant was not busy enough to warrant such horrible service.

They always have great food here. Anytime you order a dish with tortillas…yum. They make em the right way.

Great food, great service. We had the steak and lobster and they were delicious! Friendly and attentive staff. Will definitely be back.

One of the best margaritas I have had. My husband and I wanted Mexican food like my moms house. Tried this place out unbelievably good. This is not your American style Mexican food like Old Town. This is legit Puerto Nuevo style.

Absolutely love this place. Their puerto Nuevo soap is amazing. The steak and lobster is delicious and the spicy margaritas are the bomb!
