Standing out from the crowd, our 400-seater restaurant is housed in a grand Grade II listed building featuring a distinct neoclassical Greek façade and mixes an industrial look with a touch of opulence inside. Opera Grill brings theatre on a grand scale to Chester. At the heart of our menu is the theatre charcoal grill and wood-burning ovens, inspired by revered chefs and restaurants from around the world. The entertainment continues in a first-floor Music Gallery featuring a stage set for live acts every Friday, and a mix of soulful classics performed by our gospel choir every Sunday.
The distinctive spaces in Opera Grill are all available for hire for meetings, conferences and special events with bespoke menus and entertainment packages.

The new menu was incredible! Tamara took our table and she was lovely, she really looked after us! The food was delicious, the champagne was flowing, and the staff were great as always! See you all again soon! Thank you everyone!

I took my husband and our family to Opera Grill Chester for my husbands 50th birthday meal which was noted on the reservation - for what purpose I don’t know because it wasn’t mentioned at all when arrived. They took our order whilst the choir was on - which was challenging as we had to shout over it and couldn’t really enjoy it - we arrived well within time so they could have taken our order before then. We asked for 2 steaks med-rare and they were far too well done - the worst steak I’ve actually ever had. We asked for salt and had to remind the waitress after waiting 15 mins and then another 10 mins for her to fetch it - when it arrived the waitress gave us 2 lots of pepper. I am honestly appalled at the service and the food - I refused to pay the service charge and they told me they took 1 of the inedible steaks of the total food bill. I’m really upset about it all as it was my husbands 50th birthday meal and we were looking forward to it and it was honestly appalling. We won’t get that day back again either.

Thank you to all the staff at Opera Grill for helping to celebrate my sons birthday and for all the help and support from Emily in the arrangements. We were upgraded to the Music Lounge and provided the 2 course menu with a great variety of options for all. Food was great and the venue itself is excellent thanks all.

First time we have dined at Opera and we were not disappointed. We only had main courses, Tikka bass, can honestly say the nicest fish dish we think we’ve ever had and the fries were divine! The house salad was very fresh and vibrant but we felt over priced. Welcoming for our 9 year old daughter too, which was great. Her cheeseburger was very nice and she ate it all. Followed by a sundae. One thing we found a little annoying was that multiple staff were looking after the same area so we were asked more than once for the same thing and then other things forgotten as the other server thought that the other member of staff had already sorted. Quite pricey but top class food, great selection of drinks, fab atmosphere, would definitely like to return if we are in the area.

I booked this venue as we’re celebrating our wedding anniversary. We had been upgraded prior to our visit due to a private function using the outdoor seating area. We were shown to our table upstairs at 7.45 and were greeted by our server for the evening. She took our food order and by 8.20 our starters had arrived. I ordered Devonshire crab and my husband had smoked salmon. Both starters were beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Sadly due to an issue with kitchen communication we did not receive mains until 9.25 but the food when it arrived was lovely. We were provided with complimentary cocktails due to the waiting time for the mains. We decided not to have desserts . The atmosphere upstairs was lively we had live music which was brilliant. Overall a good night just the mis communication with the food let it down.

Great service. Lovely menu choices and drinks. It was a lively night as the races had been on but the service team were friendly, efficient and calm. Top quality food. Served by Anna and Mario

Love the venue but the service speed was awful. We didn’t get our drinks for 25 minutes then we were waiting to order. When the drinks came they were flat. Meanwhile someone who knows everyone arrived and was sat with their food and drink straight away whilst we still waited. After waiting for our food for another 30 minutes they bought our main meals out when we didn’t even have our starters which they forgot to bring out. So we tucked in to our main meals which were average at best. I had a steak which was fatty and over cooked with the smallest pot of sauce I’ve ever seen. My partner’s small plates were all over cooked and chicken was dry. They also put a mango chutney dip with duck spring rolls which did not go together. Wouldn’t rush back

Saturday night so busy. However despite customers presumably wanting to talk over a meal, music was very loud. By all means play music but please at a level where people dont have to shout to be heard

Lovely meal! Slight disappointment that some elements of the menu were not available ( no lobster ). However, the team and chef went out of their way to provide an alternative ( delicious garlic and chilli prawns) which definitely meant alot. Will absolutely return to enjoy what Opera Grill has to offer! Delicious cocktails and perfectly cooked steaks! Thanks all for a great time! Andy and Kath

After previously visiting your venue and having a lovely time, we brought friends visiting from Australia, The place is lovely but yesterday we all found it very cold which in turn made the food cold very quickly as you were eating it, our friends and us had to eat our meal with coats on, (we did notice other diners eating with their coats on also) We were seated near the DJ and couldn’t ask to be Moved as all the tables were taken The DJs music was a little too loud for us to be able to have any conversation so as soon as we finished our meal we didn’t stay for desserts and left as soon as we could We had checked the menu before booking and Our friends from Australia were really looking forward to ordering the lobster on your menu which you were advertising but were very disappointed to find that there was none available when we ordered (there was four items unavailable from the menu) We all left feeling rather disappointed and cold

The food is very good but I marked the Opera down because of the cost. It is very expensive to dine here. For what I paid, I expected more than a pub environment. Premium prices should mean a premium environment but the servers were dressed like you would see in a harvester type pub. The music was too loud. Good for a pub (?) but not an expensive restaurant.

Food was ok, very basic for the price, ordered a fillet steak each, our waiter gave us the wrong steaks as cooked different but was too late to send back as we poured our sauce over them, mine being cold too. Only realised as we started to eat the steak how it was cooked.

Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived, we had a drink at the bar but no one came to collect us. We checked at the desk to be told someone had been to find us, they hadn’t. Some confusion over who was doing what not seems really disorganised. Menu choice was good but it was so dark we couldn’t actually see what we were eating. We had to put our torch on to see the food ! It was great ambient lighting for drinks but absolutely not right for diners. We were seated in a booth in a corner upstairs. We had booked the live music lounge but the live music only did 2 short 40 min sets. Could have done with playing for a bit longer.

We were given a voucher for Christmas and only just had chance to use it. The food was absolutely delicious the service we couldn’t fault at all. Everything about this place was great, we would definitely recommend and will be going back, but maybe just on special occasions as it is pricey.

Had a meal in April 2024 with my family. I have been a few times to Opera Grill. Forgot how fantastic the food actually is. We all enjoyed the restaurant, service, food. Highly recommend if you are in Chester.

Wonderful dining experience from the moment we booked until we left. They got spaghetti in especially for one of our guests and couldn’t have been more attentive, we were made to feel so welcome and valued. Made it a special night for all of us would highly recommend ☺️☺️☺️

Always had a lovely meal there but last night one of our party’s food came wrong they changed it but it wasn’t cooked inside it was raw. by that time we had eaten our meals. It was a very special occasion as it was our wedding day so it spoilt the evening. But on a good note the manager was fantastic and gave us complimentary drinks. I would use opera grill again as it’s always been amazing in the past.

Absolutely awful! The noise was ridiculous - they had emailed earlier in week about changing table to one where live music was playing I replied and said no thank you we’re not a fan of load music when eating. They never bothered to tell us the music on the normal area would be like you were in a club! I get that it’s a bar as well as restaurant but it was ludicrous! I had to shout to speak to my partner. The food was no better we had the shared starter which was all grease and no taste at all - everything was deep fried within an inch of its life and was just pure grease! We both opted for £55 wagu steaks they where revolting full of gristle I couldn’t even eat mine and only had a couple of mouthfuls it was that bad - for £55 a steak we where expecting a beautiful dinner and it was cheap nasty meat definitely not worth the price tag. The deserts were also very disappointing I ordered the coconut parfait which was defrosted inside giving it a horrible texture. The whole place was style over substance and for a £228 meal for 2 people we left exceptionally disappointed and feeling like we had been completely ripped off! The only good thing was the cocktails! Would never return certainly do not recommend service was exceptionally slow as well it took 20 minutes to get our bill after asking by which point we where beyond ready too leave due to the awful food and ridiculous noise!

This is the most wonderful place food was fantastic, the was atmosphere was perfect and the service was outstanding. A special mention to Louisa who served us on the roof terrace- she made our night so special. Will definiiely be back very soon.

One meal sent back as bug in it. It was replaced but no offer of discount. Food was ok but nothing special. Salt and pepper ribs were very meaty but bland.

We had a fantastic night at the live DJ, band and saxophonist on Friday night. They were of a very high standard. The service was outstanding and the food was incredible. We both had sirloin steak, it was cooked to perfection and was so tasty, we got extra sides of creamed spinach and broccoli, they were delicious too. The whole night was fantastic and will definitely be going back.
