Welcome to Numero 28, a culinary institution born from a rich legacy of four generations of Pizzaioli. Our story began in New York City, where our beloved Nonna Eugenia has been the heart and soul of our restaurant for over 60 years. I came back after a while and unfortunately this place is not as good as it used to be. The food was meh as well as the service. Our server started off strong and then disappeared for the rest of the night, I didn’t even get to order a second glass of wine and he never checked in to see if everything was ok with our food. We even had to request dessert menus and the check from other staff members. The chicken Milanese had a weird texture, the menu said it was chicken breast but the texture did not look like it. The pizza was fine but I think it used to be better.

Party of 12, there was a back room that was absolutely perfect. The staff was amazing, very accommodating. We chose this place bc of the menu we read online. However the menu they handed out was missing a lot of items on the online menu. However having said that, we asked for 2 items that were not in the menu they handed out but the online menu. They were able to make them. Which was great. But they should really make sure online menu and handed out menu is almost the same. 2 dishes came out extremely salty. We did not mention this, we just dealt with it. What made our night excellent at this was place was the ambience, the room, the SERVICE we received. Despite the menu issue and the salty dishes, we would go back again

Excellent restaurant with good meals. My party enjoyed their dinner & was extremely impressed with the table side service. The space was a little small and the lighting could be more aesthetically fitting. Nonetheless, it was a great location to celebrate a guys birthday!

Incredible food and impeccable service. The manager came by the table twice to ask if everything was good but it was not needed because our waiter was on point.

One of the best pizza's I have had! Started with the Bruschetta Classic which was terrific as well. Service was top notch, and I loved the feel of the restaurant.

The service was horrible. Asked for tea in the beginning. Never received it. Received wrong order. We were only there for 50 minutes. Once the bill was paid, the server said that we had to leave for another reservation. There was no one waiting.

The food here is excellent, made with top-notch ingredients (looking at you, cacio e pepe pizza and olive oil that comes with the bread!) Also the service is friendly and prompt.

The existing pictures on OpenTable are deceiving. I got the impression that it was a classy Italian restaurant. It’s a Pizza parlor. I had a reservation & they weren’t prepared. They wanted to put a small table in the isle for us. I refused. They suggested a table near the kitchen. It was next to the open door of the kitchen. Very bright with waiter traffic. . . I must give credit to the kitchen staff. The food was good. If they deliver I would order out.

We got the small pizza to start and it was honestly decently priced for the size. The pizza was good with one side a little underdone. For main courses we got the bolognese and the chicken parm. The bolognese was good as well, nothing too crazy. However the chicken parm was unfortunately terrible. The sauce was extremely watery making impossible to eat with out it go everywhere. The one piece of chicken was covered with what felt like 5 pieces of cheese, and the chicken was rubbery and just not cooked properly. It is a cute little date night looking restaurant but the food was a bit of a disappointment compared to how much we paid for it

Last night I ate very well, I recommend Grandma Eugenia's meatballs, they are delicious and the pizzas are also very good. Super approved

The food is very good, I ate a pizza and it was fantastic the ingredients were delicious. My wife and I will definitely be back.

I'm Italian, and this restaurant amazed me. I ate very well at a very honest price. The pizza was very good. I will be back.

Excellent appetizers ! Try the baratta and artichokes ! Attention to every detail. House Sangria worth the trip . We loved the individual pizzas. Pere Pizza was a winner!

Something must have danced as the waiter was so rude. We asked for our sons dinner to come out as soon as possible. The waiter misheard and brought everything but my sons pizza out. When i asked why the appetizers and dinner were together he gave me such an attitude. I have never left such a small tip. And it was Mother’s Day.

3.5 stars - this was all about pizza. Spent time searching articles on authentic Neapolitan pizza in NYC. Had been to many of the top names but wasn't familiar with Numero 28 and their UES location was convenient. In fairness, when it comes to pizza, A LOT of the experience depends on the hands of the pizzaiolo you get on any given day. This night the pizza was more Roman than Neapolitan, with a thin very crisp crust (almost no give). They have Peroni on tap and Menabrea bionda in bottles (both Italian) so we were pleased, enjoying our beers and we did enjoy the pizza. Size of the personal pizzas and proportion of the toppings was on point, quality of everything was good, fresh and tasty. The staff was friendly and the pizza arrived quickly (we really required very little attention). Incidentally we did not observe one Italian among the crew. Nothing special about the decor, location is kind of classic NYC, could be considered intimate as it is on the dark side. They have room for larger groups in back. Two beers at $9 each, two pizzas avg $23 each, 70 before tip. I'd call it a nice neighborhood spot for pizza/Italian, not for a pilgrimage.

Great service, decent gluten free pizza. Early dinner of salad, pizza and a bottle of wine. $120 before tip.

We love Numero 28! We were regulars when they had a location on the UWS. This was our first visit to the UES location. The food is great - amazing pizza (we had a Tartufo and Margarita), great salads, great pastas, and we also had the Salmon, which was cooked perfectly and delicious. And don’t skip dessert - we had gelato and the Nutella mousse, which was amazing! The space is very nice, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. We highly recommend it!

We had a reservation for Valentine’s Day. Their description in Open Table states that they are BYOB but when we got there, we were told that it didn’t apply because of the holiday. We were not happy about that since we took our own bottle, and we basically had no choice but to order from their menu. We ordered a salad to share and two pizzas. The salad was served immediately but it was subpar. We had to wait for over an hour for the pizza to be served. The restaurant was half empty and the reason for the delay was because of the delivery orders they were processing. They obviously worried more about their takeout orders, and not the people eating there. They gave us complimentary arrancinis for the wait, which were good, but we only wanted our pizza. Another couple that arrived after us ate before we did, with no clear explanation. The pizzas were really good but the service was mediocre. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience.
