Two Minneapolis restaurateurs and one of the region’s top chefs are transforming the historic Gardner Hardware Building at 515 Washington Avenue North in the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis The team consists of Marty Collins, Brett Johnson and Peter Hoff, each native Minnesotans with extensive industry experience. Marty owns McCoy’s Public House and several restaurants in Kansas City, Missouri. Brett and his family have owned and operated The Hilltop Restaurant for the past 40 years. Pete, the head chef, brings his most recent culinary experience and creativity from California to NOLO’s and The Basement Bar. His culinary vision and passion for local ingredients will help create the new modern comfort food. The team shares a passion for the restaurant and bar industry and sees an opportunity to fill gaps in the market in the North Loop.

The food was very flavorful and nice portions. My husband and I share our dishes so the server was kind enough to split our food in advance and give us separate dishes. Drinks were good as well but pricey.

Nolo has a great menu with enough options that I think there's something for everybody. We started with the yuca fries, which were fantastic. Then I had the walleye sandwich, which was also really good. It didn't initially come with enough tartar sauce, but our server was happy to get some more, so kudos for their excellent service as well. I highly recommend Nolo!

Food was so flavorful— a pork chop is a standard American restaurant dish, but this was the best, most flavorful pork chop meal you’ll find. Really well seasoned, excellent flavor combinations, it felt simultaneously familiar and unexpected. We will be back!!

The seabass was awful (overcooked, not fresh, crab stuff was dry and seemed old), the tomato soup was like pasta sauce but our friend liked her crunch bowl. Service was excellent but I won’t be going back. Also, this place is pretty loud.. not a bad thing but it’s for sure really loud in there.

Had a business dinner at Nolo. Service was solid, the food came pretty much right away. The cauliflower and brussels for appetizer were very good. Dinner was a bit disappointing, had the sea bass with crab and it was extremely dry and overcooked. Sides were fine, but hard to make up for the main. Nice atmosphere, very lively.

reserved a table and got the worst table in the restaurant. took 15 min to ask if I wanted a drink. took the food I specifically went there for off the menu a week before. the 2nd choice was only a weekday option but they made an exception.

Great food, fair prices and we loved the look of the restaurant. Lighting was low and perfect, music choice that night was great. Our host and server were friendly and made sure we were happy. Will definitely be back and would recommend!

We brought friends to NOLO for dinner before a performance at the Guthrie. We ordered the Brussel sprouts and cauliflower appetizer, which was delicious. My husband ordered the pork chop, which looked incredibly thin and easy to overcook. He confirmed that it was tough but the flavor was good. Same for our friend’s chicken cutlet; very thin and overcooked. I ordered the tuna tartare appetizer as my entree and was disappointed in the lack of tuna. I really expected more tuna and less rice. The avocado on it was delicious but I guess I shouldn’t have expected much tuna for the $18 price. There are so many good restaurants along Washington Ave, it will be a while before we are back at NOLO.

Food was quite good for 2 of our eyes but just ok for the other 2. Waiter seemed like he wanted to rush us out. The noise level was way too high and the ambience was next to nothing- no charm or anything distinctive.

I’ve always had amazing food at Nolo, and we had a wonderful waitress and great food for brunch. But there was a rowdy group of young 20-somethings (and an older gentleman/dad?) at the booth near us that were drinking excessively and taking shots (at least 2 while we were there) and were extremely loud and obnoxious. It definitely negatively impacted our dining experience. I didn’t think that Nolo was this kind of restaurant that catered to loud, drunk, obnoxious customers. Very disappointed in that.

Our party of nine people ages 30 to 83 had a very fun time at Nolo’s, eating delicious food. Service was also great! Then we went to the basement bar and played (darts, pinball, and danced to a fab music group - Groovie Tuesday) Woo Hoo!
