Located in San Francisco’s Design District, Niku Steakhouse is a meat-focused restaurant, highlighting an in-house dry aging program, exclusive cuts of coveted Japanese A5 wagyu with an emphasis on wood fired cooking.

Niku, by the Omakase Restaurant Group, hosts a dining room oriented around a roaring custom binchotan charcoal and wood-fired grill, where guests watch as Executive Chef Dustin Falcon (Lazy Bear, The French Laundry) and his team prepare steaks to perfection. At Niku, there is a true marriage of American and Japanese sensibilities. Falcon’s cooking is driven by the terroir of Northern California — which finds its way onto the menu through foraged ingredients and products from local farmers — met with the highest quality domestic and A5 Japanese Beef.

A wonderful evening celebrating 35th Anniversay and a grandson’s college graduation. The staff was attentive and welcoming. Nice touches of complimentary champagne to help start the evening. The Tare Tare, Pig Ears, and Marrow were terrific. No surprises the steaks were as they should be from a top-rated establishment. Highly recommended for special occasions.

Service was slow and lackadaisical. Particularly the bar. Rib eye steak was really fatty, beyond reasonable. And all a little too mediocre to justify the pricing. And ridiculously high corkage.

This is the last hi end Steakhouse I needed to experience to see if it lived up to its Hype! For the money $$$, this would place definitely didn’t live up to all the Hype about it! Drinks 🍸were very good but small! Service was excellent! As was the Ambiance!! Food wasn’t quite up to hi end standards tho! Drinks 🍸Appetizers, Entree’s And desserts were $400! For half that price you could go to Harris Ranch Steakhouse and get more food plus excellent Service & Ambiance!! This is a One & Done type of restaurant! I can always say that I have been there!!

Always good service although they do appear to be slipping a bit from past visits. Staff is not as polished as before and it took a long time to get cocktails at our table. Steaks re perfectly done. Appetizers and sides are hit or miss they don’t have any that seem to be their forte.
