Located in downtown Cincinnati across from the Aronoff Center, Nicholson’s is a restaurant and bar serving fine food and drink in a genuine Scottish tavern setting. Taking inspiration from the public houses found throughout Great Britain, our goal is to provide our guests with authentic hospitality and a brilliant dining experience. In addition to high-quality food, we offer a wide variety of beer, wine, and spirits featuring one of the best selections of single malt scotch whiskies in the area. Our family of restaurants has grown in recent years to include two new concepts: Horse & Barrel Bourbon House and the Backstage Event Center located next door from Nicholson's Pub. Horse & Barrel is an award-winning whiskey bar with 100+ whiskeys and bourbons, specialty cocktails, craft beers, small bites and a friendly bourbon-loving staff. The Backstage Event Center is a private event venue hosting rehearsal dinners, weddings, cocktail parties, corporate events and more.

Nicholson's is a go to restaurant if you are going to the theater in downtown Cincinnati. It is best to inform your wait person that you need to be out of the restaurant due to the start time of the show when seated. They offer several large tables to seat six comfortably. Tables are tight so the noise level can be loud. Food was good and offered a wide variety of selections for our group from soup/salad to a chicken sandwich and crab cakes. Nice selection of beers on draft and cans. Would like selection in the wine offered. Bring back the Biltmore wines to your menu.

I’ve been to Nicholson’s before, but this visit seemed to be exceptionally good. We were taken immediately to our table and the server was quick to take our drink orders. There is a large selection on the menu, but not too large to be overwhelming. Once we decided on our food orders, the server was readily available to take our orders. The food came out quickly and was really quite good. I had the Shepherd’s Burger and my dining companion had the pot roast. Both very good. I had the cheesecake for dessert without the fruit. Highly recommend it. The one glitch was with my friend receiving a second Manhattan. It took what seemed longer than necessary, but it did not detract from the overall experience. Kudos to our server for being personable and cheerful. I will go back and recommend this restaurant.

Enjoyed the special menu for the show “Clue” at the Aronoff! Granddaughter had the colonel mustard pasta and loved it. I had the Kentucky hot brown off the regular menu and it was delicious as always

Great service in a nice location. Only complaint would be my steak was unevenly cooked and fries were soggy due to steak sauce and juices spreading across the plate.

We have dined at Nicholson's for years and have thoroughly enjoyed the food. But the last several times the food has gotten progressively worse, and many of our favorites are no longer on the menu. It appears that there have been severe cost-cutting attempts which have significantly degraded the experience. This is the second time that my wife has gotten sick after a meal. We will not be returning in the near future, if ever.

First time at Nicholson’s and will definitely be going back when I’m back in Cincy. The Scotch Egg was fantastic and the main course of Pot Roast and Shepard pie were very good. Although new to the bar staff the vodka sours were outstanding.

We enjoyed the mystery dinner before "Clue" at the Aronoff. The one thing that bothered my companion was that the food in the chafing dishes was cold: Mac & cheese and taco meat & rice. I must thank your staff, especially Shannen and Chef, for accommodating my need for gluten-free food. The Pad Thai was good, and thanks to their willingness to have coconut aminos available, along with a clean pan and tongs, made my evening!! Thank you!!

We had the charcuterie board, fish and chips and hot brown. The place was packed due to opening night but our service was great. We had Eliza as our server and she was running around serving many tables but attentive to us. Food came out in a timely manner and we were at the show with plenty of time to spare. Manager even stopped to check in.

Two servers confused on whose table was whose, so we sat there. Had to ask for a drinks list, had to ask for menus, had to flag down a server to order after a lengthy wait and one of our group finally got her cup of soup as we were being encouraged to order desserts. And the place was only 1/3 full! Not impressed.

Our server, Chloe, was very nice and extremely efficient. She was one of the best servers I’ve had in a long while. The meals were plentiful and full of flavor. Nice night out for myself and my husband.

We have eaten at Nicholson’s many times before and have always gotten good food and good service. Unfortunately, not so this time. My wife’s pork dish was overcooked and dry, as was my fish (fish n chips). The service was at best spotty.

Service was sporadic, food was cold and delayed. I’m sure it was because it was a show night but our server assured us we’d get food quickly and then she took our order late and we waited over a half hour for food. We’ve been other times and have enjoyed it more.

We have eaten there many times prior to going to a play (just across the street). This time 4 of our 6 orders were not good. The special (Pork Roast) was way over cooked. A hamburger was ordered medium, came back well and charred. Sent back, came back the same. The salmon topping a salad was too raw. Sent back but came too late to eat. Some food was cold. We were seated at 5:40. As of 6:45 we did not have our entrees. Computer would not run our credit cards. As of 7:20 we had not paid. Play starts at 7:30. We have run into slow service before (due to crowd before play), but usually the food is good.

We went to Nicholson's for dinner before going to a show. The place was busy because of other theatre goers. Our experience was, as I indicated, just OK. I would give a higher rating had we not had to wait over half hour, after ordering, for our food. The server was very friendly, but we're wondering if he just didn't place our order right away because he was happily chatting with other customers. When we asked him about our food, he brought it but we felt rushed to eat. It didn't help that the pork porterhouse was overcooked and therefore very dry. Overall, not a great experience.

Service was fantastic. We had a show after eating and they did a great job of managing our order with how busy the kitchen was to ensure we had plenty of time to eat and get to our show on time. Food was very good. My pork chop was just slightly overdone. But, nothing major. Outside of that food was fantastic.

We went for dinner before seeing Six at the Aronoff. love that they had show specific items on the menu. we split the spring roll app, it was yummy and the sliders, also yummy. Our waiter was helpful and not overbearing.All and all, a nice experience

The several times that I have come to Nicholson's, I have always enjoyed the food, drinks, and the atmosphere. One thing to note is that if you are needing a quick bite, then Nicholson's might not be the best fit for your needs. If you have the time, the food and drinks are worth the wait!

We had tickets to the Aronoff for 7:30 show. Made reservations for 6 pm for 2. Arrived at 6:02 and was seated. Waiter was busy with 3 other tables. Ordered cocktails and crab cake appetizer it arrived at about 6:25. We then ordered dinner which consisted of 2 sandwiches with fries. Our food hadn’t arrived by 7:10 so we asked for our bill and left without eating. Waiter was apologetic and understanding.

Service was slow. Had request our server many times. When the food came out itdid come in order. Without lingering the meal took an hour and 45 minutes. The server was attentive at the table but mostly absent. It has been a few years since we were last there but the food quantity and quality has dropped. Fish was dry, shepherds pie was burnt and with an odd taste. Salads were fresh. Scotch was perfect. Sticky toffee pudding was great.

I know many restaurants are trying various ways to cut food cost and manage prices, but it seemed that they have reduced the quality of their signature dish - Fish & Chips, to the point where it’s no longer worth the trip. 😞 Service was good.
